item 3005 Atma right now is the only item in the AD+armor niche. Is that broken on it own? Then why does item 3001 Abyssal exist? Admittedly, the item could use some work (my personal idea is to up the cost, give it 10 cdr and a passive that deals bonus phys HP-scaling damage on crits), but remove it entirely? It seriously seems like a band-aid nerf to Garen, more than anything else. Some context needed here. FeralPony? Xypherous? Anyone?

Gangplank + item 3083 + item 3005 = :)

Anyone thought of changing the recipe of the atma with the Brutalizer. Brutalizer+ chain vest+ ruby crystal=> New atma.

1337+720+400+(500 combine cost)= 2957 (close to randuin price) Stat: 200 hp 45 armor. 30 armor pen. 20 AD. Passive convert 1.5% of your max hp into AD. it become a good late game gear. the combine cost can change.

At the very least, Riot should rework it into a better designed item. There are much fewer offensive armor items compared to magic resist and health.

We've got health: item 3071 item 3022 item 3151 item 3027 item 3116 item 3078 item 3050 item 3056 and to a lesser extent item 3068

Magic Resist: item 3001 item 3174 item 3156 item 3091 item 3139

and then Armor: item 3005 item 3157 and to a lesser extent item 3025 item 3068

It seems kind of thoughtless to remove an item that tries to fill an itemization gap instead of reworking it to actually fill the gap. Simply replacing the crit chance with the attack speed would go a long way toward improving the item. Many bruisers scale better with attack speed than with critical strike. You could also change the item to give HP and convert armor to AD or throw in some CDR by putting a Stinger or Kindlegem in the recipe. There are plenty of options to improve the item instead of simply removing it.

  1. Despite the first point, Zhonya's is more healthy than Atma's, because its design doesn't make it either always first-buy on every mage or only a situational last-pick item. Some champions use it better than others, and some situations make it necessary earlier than other options, but it's based on the champion and the situation, rather than all Zhonya's in all first slots. A lot of picks have better first options, and you don't always need it early-game.

I'm pretty sure that in Worlds' Zhonya's is rushed on every AP mid that doesn't need Athene's for sieging. So much for "not being better than other options".

Things like "being a must rush" or a "situation last pick" can be remedied with somewhat simple changes. You could make the HP ratio scale with level, you could increase the price, and so on. The probelm with Atma's as it exists now is that it lacks a cool ability, like, for example, that of Abyssal. Riot can try to make an ability like that, or they can say "why bother", and remove an item with a unique niche. No points for guessing which method they prefer.

atmas is a horrible item right now. please dont buy it on anyone.

that being said, instead of removing it, buff it.

Zionga010/10/2014, 5:14:28 PM2 votes

I didn't say it's not better than other options; remember, I said that a lot of players think it's overtuned (including myself). Don't overlook what I said.

You said that Zhonya gets built based on situation, and at the same time you admit that it's better than the other options, thus, there's no reason not to build it. You're contradicting yourself.

Atma's is in a really weird spot where in terms of functionality it has a limited place as a capstone on certain builds at best (eg Garen, Mundo, tankplank). If it is allowed to have the power to be better than that, it starts becoming overpowering - Fratmog's was a horrifying trend.

I am totally with you on the need for an AD/Armor item though. My main concern is that an AD/Armor item would be tough to balance with consideration to ADC matchups - if too strong it strangles early game ADC choices, but if too weak then it's not worth it anyway. The Health -> AD conversion at least controlled for that to some extent.

The big problem with Atma is that there is not really a class of champions that wants to build it. This is not to say there is not a champion that can make us of the stats, but no group that can. This could be a small step into perception for the fighter changes Riot has been hinting at for a long time now.

With regards to Atma itself, crit and armor is a really non-intuitive combination of stats. Champions who classically enjoy building crit want a really high damage build to make use of damage amplification that goes with crit value. Without building additionally health, armor only does so much in adding to our effective health pool so that under utilizes that crit. Therefor there are more efficient options for damage amplification and the passive will not get use in cases where someone want the most damage. Also if i recall right you need over 3000 health to get a BF swords amount of AD, which again doesn't make the most from the crit. This makes that item at odds with itself. Does it want you to build tank, or damage? Either way a champion is not making use of some part of the item.

Jryiah10/10/2014, 5:54:13 PM1 votes

I want to see the item reworked honestly. Its so weird. It builds off a gold item and has a low cost, but doesnt do much until you already have 2 tank items. The crit chance is not good for people who get tank items, with exceptions like garen.

Reworked into something like... item 1031 740 item 3067 850 item 3005 1010 Total Gold: 2600

Stats: 50 armor 300 health 10% CDR

Unique Passive: You gain attack damage equal to 1.5% of your maximum health.

It got removed? guess I need to go recheck it because all I saw was a price reduction on these. also I like atma on mundo. good boost of AD to go with all the health im stacking.

I don't remember exactly what they have said in the past on the subject, but with sword of the occult sticking around I'm not particularly worried for Atma's. That and if they would have thought it over quite a bit before saying it's leaving, and so their minds would likely be made up.
