Upvote for Old HUD/Sandbox mode.

Riot has ignored us in the past. They will continue to ignore us in the future. But, if a thread with a clear demand were to receive a thousand up votes would they be able to ignore us then? Perhaps they would, which would be a great shame and should it come to pass I will never purchase RP again, and slowly but surely I will distance myself from this game, and one day I'll see the LoL icon and delete it to clear up space on my hard-drive. All I can do is make this thread, hope that it gets the necessary exposure, and hope that Riot doesn't ignore it. Riot, I, and everyone who up votes this thread are asking you to introduce a feature that will allows us to revert to the old HUD should we so wish to. It is a simple request, but it is one that I and many others would appreciate greatly. Furthermore I'd like to request that you reconsider your stance on introducing a Sandbox. There are multiple threads, well reasoned and well written out that explain how much a Sandbox mode would benefit us, and how what you've said, and the stance that you've claimed, don't quite make sense, nor does what you've said stand as a satisfying excuse.

Please Riot, give us back the old HUD and create a Sandbox feature, and please do not ignore this, because if you do it will only be a matter of time until I, and perhaps others, start to ignore your game.

No to the Old HUD, and Riot's already listening on the Sandbox mode. They claim they misrepresented what they were thinking there, and that it's one of those features that, while not in current development, they're still talking about.

How can you say No to an option that would allow people to choose their preference between the old and the current HUD?

Because it's short sighted and ultimately detrimental to the player, the game, and people's perception of Riot.

Lets look at why people want the old HUD. They're unfamiliar with the new HUD, and haven't spent enough time with it to get adjusted. There are some things which could be improved on it, but that's not worth creating an option to remove it all together. But rather than them spend the time to get to know the new HUD, they want developers (who would be focused on improving the new HUD) to go and add a way to swap to the old HUD.

The problem is that won't be the end of it. Eventually, inevitably, Riot will come out with something that requires custom HUD work to be done. Maybe it's a champion who's abilities all level up with their level, instead of putting points into them. Are you going to tell players they can't play that champion on the old HUD? Maybe it's another Ultimate skin with a custom button. Are you going to tell players they can't use a skin on the old HUD? You're requiring more maintenance of something that's discontinued, and more testing and developer time too. You're potentially limiting what can be added to the game, because you want to keep the option of an old HUD.

The old HUD has a feature, custom chat location that saved positions between games. That feature broke when Azir was released, and was never fixed because of how relatively unused it was. As I recall, there wasn't any HUD related changes then, it just broke for no apparent reason. An option to go to the old HUD would inevitably be very under-tested at Riot as it's a discontinued feature, so we can assume the HUD eventually starts to fall apart in similar places. Maybe the old HUD stops being able to see if Allies have their ultimates up, or item positions don't match up in the HUD any more, any number of things could break. This makes the players who opted to use the old HUD upset that it's broken. They take to the boards, Reddit, player support, etc. to complain about it, and Riot tells them exactly what they told them when they released the feature, that the old HUD is no longer supported. The player isn't satisfied, and Riot is spending time and money telling them it's not supported.

Then, 2-3 years from now, the HUD changes again. What do they do then? Do they keep three HUD options around? No, that's too much to even try and manage. So they remove the old HUD then, and you're in this same boat of having adjust to a newer HUD. You've postponed the inevitable, and created more work and troubles for everyone along the way, just so you can maintain what you're use to a little longer.

That's why I can't support an option to keep the old HUD around as an option, and why I feel constructive feedback on what to change in the new HUD is far more productive than asking for an old HUD option.

The new HUD isn't an improvement. The placement of a lot of things is counter-inuitive and it's frankly not as simple and clear as the previous one. Just because we've yet to become accustomed to the change doesn't mean that we can't assess it for what it is. I'm sure there are people out there who prefer the new HUD, but a lot of us seem to hate it for many reasons that aren't just limited to familiarity. This is, as far as I'm concerned, a case of don't change what isn't broken. The old HUD was great as it was, information was clear and easy to access, this one? Not so much.

The old HUD was great as it was, information was clear and easy to access, this one? Not so much.

Stop lying to yourself and look at the HUDs without your bias of having played it for as long as you have.

The old HUD:

  • Buffs on the far left of the screen (or far right if you flipped the map), debuffs center. Split focus just to identify the status of your champion. It took longer to access information on the status changes because you had to look in two different locations to find the status change, then mouse over it to see what it was. Ignoring this and saying "just look at the in game model" is an admition that the old HUD was weaker here
  • Active items shoved in a corner like they're not important. Riot realized this was a problem with the old HUD and tried to fix it by bringing status-style icons to the right side of the center bar, but that wasn't enough.
  • Tab menu was laid out in the second worse possible format for comparing information. The only way it could have been worse is if they mixed the two teams together.
  • Ability Upgrade buttons were very small, and often not clicked on while trying to run away. (observation of other players/before I learned the hotkey)

The new HUD:

  • Buffs and debuffs are centralized, making them easier to find and read about.
  • Active items are prioritized as much as abilities by bringing them to the center of the screen.
  • The Tab menu is more informative (summoner spell cooldowns) and easier to use by the nature of the two teams being put side by side.
  • Death timers are easier to access than before.
  • Enemy CS is easier to access while in lane, just click on them and it's displayed with their items and their other stats.
  • Ability Upgrade button is easier to click on (again, observing others).

The new HUD is most certainly an improvement, and a drastic one at that. The old HUD was, from a layout perspective, broken, and did need to be fixed.

Ult timers and ally champion health? Before that it had it's own nice big space in the screen, it was easy to tell what was going on with my team since I could see it in my peripheral vision. Now it's cluttered in a little corner and I have to make a conscious effort to make sense of it. And the status menu? Perhaps I'm just being picky and stubborn with this, but I prefer the old one. That, and it's annoying how everything is aligned to one side. Before the information was more or less spread evenly across the screen, now it's for the most part cluttered in one area making it harder to navigate through. At the very least the new HUD needs an option to allow us to rearrange things, even if it has more clarity and usability (Which for the most part I disagree with, there are some things that are better, but for the most part I believe that the old HUD provided the core basic information more effectively) it's pointless if it's not comfortable for use.

Nonetheless, there is no reason for you to object to an option to use the old HUD being installed. Ideals and vision concerning the HUD frankly mean nothing to me. I could care less. If you have them, then that's you, but as far as I'm concerned that isn't enough to deny me the ease of use and familiarity that the old HUD affords, especially when I don't even like or appreciate the new one. Yes there are times when changes need to be forced upon a community whether they like them or not, but as far as I can see this isn't one of them. The new HUD screws with my gameplay, and yes, I'll eventually get used to it, but that doesn't mean that I'll like it, nor will I be better off because of it.

I gave you several reasons why having an option to use the old HUD should not exist in my first reply to you. It is, as I explained, the type of change that does need to be forced on the community.

The concept of pre-set changes to the HUD (similar to Minimap on the left or right side) is a good thing to suggest. Make another thread about wanting an option to put ally status on the left side, and suggest it loudly. That's a wonderful suggestion to make, and I'm certain there would be many players that agree with you. I believe Riot mentioned that they were open to looking into such changes.

Don't forget that the bottom-left corner of the screen is now clear, so you can actually see what's happening in that extremely important game space (especially useful if you are playing mid and are on the top-right team.) That's one of the biggest improvements in the new HUD.

This is a really good post here. You said what I was thinking of saying, and said it really well.

I'm going to agree with DrCyanide here.

Considering all the work that Riot and all the Players who put work into the Beta version, gave feed back, criticism and everything else, I feel that having legacy support for the old HUD is a slap in the face, not to mention the old HUD was clunky to me.

I was and AM excited for this new HUD and I've been playing better for it. Either I'm getting better or I'm not getting distracted by all the OTHER stuff. I like this style just because I can see all my info without opening a window, or having to look ALL the way to the left bottom of the screen. Nope, right there at my health and mana, and if I want ALL the info, hold C for a second. Quick, Easy and once you learn the positions of the icons, a glance is all you need.

Thanks man. Let's hope that more people support this too.

Just do what I just did... I just uninstalled league of legends and put in a petition for account deletion. It solves all of your HUD problems so you never have to look at that crap again.
