Dota is vastly superior to LoL

originary91··10 votes·1,640 views

For the simple fact that they have measures in place to deal with people who don't connect to games or who AFK mid game. In Dota if someone can't connect everyone is kicked back into matchmaking. In LoL if someone doesn't connect then you're forced to play a bloody 4v5. (Or worse.) In Dota if someone AFKs or DCs they'll eventually be given an abandon, and their teammates will gain access to the gold that said person gained throughout the game which gives a much needed boost to even things out a bit. In LoL you're forced to play a bloody 4v5 with absolutely no compensation, you get nothing to make up for the loss, other than the enemy team sending paltry consolation messages when they're actually over the moon that they're going to get a free win because their opponents were unlucky.

5 Seasons and Riot has failed to address a very simple problem. Their excuse? It's A-OK since you're likely to have as many 4v5 games as you will have 5v4 games, it's absolutely fine that you waste your time playing lopsided and unfair games - all that matters is that you play our game and make us money, so shut the fuck up hoe! But Muh LCS doe.

Do bear in mind that I find the gameplay of Dota to be...insufferable to say the least.

I really wish i had started playing Dota first. I am so used to the champs and gamestyle that I just cannot perm leave LoL. But i completely agree, Dota has a far better system then league, the fact that Riot hasn't done anything to improve just goes to show how incompetent they are.

Ikr? I'd probably enjoy Dota if I hadn't learned to play LoL first. Also, please do up vote this thread if you too find it even a little stupid that LoL has not a simple system in place to deal compensate for DCs/AFKs. I'm sure that a thread calling Dota superior to LoL becoming hot would rustle Riot's jimmies a little.

Speaking as a person who started DotA on warcraft 3 and migrated here, I can say the attribute system of LoL as well as the less toxic community make it preferable. DotA has one type of scaling damage, auto attacks and that't it. They can buy items that give them complete spell immunity, further degrading the importance of mages to the point where all they do for the game is use every scrap of their income buying and countering wards. The player toxicity is almost celebrated in that game in comparison to this one, so unless you enjoy that type of thing, LoL is the optimal choice.

Anyone who read the title, clicked on the thread and down voted without even bothering to read the first bloody sentence is a bandwagoning retard, and it is you that is a major problem with this community. Why the hell should Riot listen to what you have to say, when you can't even bother to read the opening sentence of a thread before dismissing it?

I very much read your opening remark, and the entire post for that matter, before I downvoted, and as much as I would hate to admit it, these systems could be gamed by people who want advantages. Let's say a guy starts playing Vladimir top and finds out he'll be laning against a Riven, he could convince/pressure someone on his team to turn off their client during load screen so that he could requeue against something that hopefully isn't as bad a matchup as what he had. I'll admit the abandon system isn't as abusable, but there are reasons these aren't implemented in League.

And it's abuseable in draft how? Chances are you know who you're going to be laning against. And it can still inflict the same punishment of dodging on people who don't connect.

The person that doesn't connect will get a queue time penalty, 2min/5min/30min++. afk/dc's get an abandon which if heavily punished with prisoners island + queue time penalty. There's really nothing to game...

A system like this would probably end up sharing all pros and cons that dodging has, just that it has a higher chance of hitting people who hit an unlikely spot of lag or suffer from a random bugsplat. I'll be honest, when I originally heard it, I didn't think about its similarity with a system already implemented into league, but if that's the case, the system would literally be just an extended period of time to consider whether or not a player should dodge. Except you now you can make the decision more informed about the enemy since you can now see their summoner name and spells. I'm against this, but only because it can be gamed, and the more I think about it, it can be gamed worse than dodging allows for currently.

You can dodge, but you account is essentially placed into a low prio queue. Games take longer to match, you can't play ranked, and you have to play with other like minded people until you complete your punishment. This punishment is in games, not hours. So you have to complete 3+ games in lo priority or leave your account in bad standing indefinitely. I play lots of dota, and the amount of people dc/afk/etc in the first 5min is absurdly low.

the reason why it isn't implemented in League isn't becuz it can be abused, but is becuz "there's a chance that the enemy will have a player abandon as much as someone on your team abandons. So in itself it balances out." I'l try to find that riot post on reddit. Also, no if someone do not connect to the game the game should not start. If someone don't like their team picks they would leave at picking phase in order to dodge with minimal penalty.

In dota all champs are free all the time, you dont get a sence of accomplishment when you play them in dota..Shit i meant "Hero's". Also they have one map to league's four, soon to be 5, 12 million players per month to dota's 5 million, in dota, the characters look sick in 3rd person but in a bird's eye view, they all look like the same blue blur. League's maps look much more clear, specifically the summoner's rift. Dota's map looks dirty and unclean. That's all from the top of my head,

Yeah, this is why i havent moved to Dota perm. But you know they will eventually get better graphics. then its gg for Riot. because the troll/afk's are getting out of hand in league and they continue to do nothing about it. I think if Dota performs a couple graphic updates Riot is gonna end up losing a lot of players that are sick of having 1-2 trolls in EVERY game.

You're number are a bit off, LoL claims 30-70million monthly (not clear on current numbers). Dota updates that count and makes it very public, 11 million (will prolly hit 12ish with Ti5 coming up).

Cell graphics do pop more, but far easier to animate than the 3d models that dota uses (hence needing a much better graphical engine than what lol uses). Dota has the better graphics, your just speaking of art direction (look at anvia vs phoenix).

LoL's map is a straight rip of dota/dawngate (since the refresh). Dota's map has depth, destructible terrain, high/low ground etc.

I'd agree if it wasn't so: Clunky when it comes to controlling it Boring to play the Heroes: Everyone uses mana, no one has unique mechanics. How bad the community is: Goddamn Russians/Brazilians How they make things needlessly complex but still leave out fun elements: Jungling is hardly a thing in dota besides on a select few champs. tall grass isn't a thing, but for some reason they wanted to implement a trollable courier system and a day and night system...

And this is coming from a person who started with DotA

The "clunky" is balance to keep kiting down, huge dmg tanks, mobility creep, dependance on flash.

There are far more unique heroes/skills/items in dota than in LoL. LoL has stat sticks, mobility creeped champs, and really boring faceroll your kb kits.

What is needlessly complicated?

The brush is a dumb mechanic...is this pokemon? Day/night high ground and trees create space to gank players....that makes sense...not grass so tall it hides you.

Most Mobas are better than LoL when it comes to general quality control.

Sadly LoL has deeper gameplay and more interesting champions than the mobas I have played.

if you find dota to be that much better then go and play it instead of this game, it's as simple as that. If you are actually playing this game and not the "obvious superior one" then you are nothing more than a hypocrite

But, if everyone connects then league is vastly superior to dota...

It's sad that the majority of dislikes to this post was probably just due to the title, purely ignoring the argument... To me ,at least, this seems like a pretty decent topic... Should have probably re-titled it: "Dota vs LoL on AFK's" or something of the liking.
