Crit chance, and how it ruins the game.

League is a game based around skill. Lots and lots of little instances of skill. The difference between a good marksman and a great one is generally only one or two steps in any direction at a given time. In a game where being able to say that you are head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to just how GOOD you are at the game... Why does there need to be something that outright removes any semblance of skill and instead gives you the 'roll the dice' route of dealing damage?

I'm gonna just copy-paste a bit of text I had posted in another comment section, because I feel like it requires its own thread instead.

"Remove crit items from the game. It's an entirely unbalanced mechanic that removes literally 100% of the skill from the game and instead replaces it with rolling the dice to see who wins a fight.

There are a couple of champions that have crit built into their kit, let them keep it. Let Tryn get his free 35%. Switch Yasuo's passive so that after he ults he gets free crits for the duration of his buff (Instead of armor pen maybe since few Yasuos actually build any). Sorta like Sword of the Divine, minus the AS steroid.

Give Yi crit chance when his E is active, instead of true damage on hit. (De-incentivizing those stupid on-hit builds he's known for that do 9000 true damage in 4 seconds).

Mini-crits such as Xin's third hit, Fiora's E, Cait's headshots, or Shaco's backstabs (and whatnot) wouldn't be changed at all.

Just a thought I have had for quite some time and honestly I feel like it would make the game so much more pleasant and less frustrating when Draven lands the miracle RFC + Shiv + IE Q-buffed crit that kills you in one shot.

**Edit: Remove the CRIT from the items. Don't remove the items entirely. Keeping the extra range and small burst on hit of RFC, the aoe potential of Runaan's, the movespeed and damage reduction of PD, or the small aoe burst from Shiv is fine. Make Reaver return mana every x amount of hits, make IE make one in every 4 auto attacks do 20% bonus damage, like a reliable form of crit except it can be counterplayed/played around."

Here's the thing; I agree that crit, as it exists now, is really unhealthy in some key ways.

BUT, I don't think simply removing it will have the desired effect. The exponential scaling of ADCs is pretty integral to the game's balance at this point, so I'm not sure it's a good idea to remove that.

What I would rather see is a world where crit didn't help them burst quite so hard. I've pitched the idea before of tying crit to armor pen instead of just extra damage, so that their threat against tanks goes up with game length, but they aren't necessarily able to kill other squishies with 1-2 crits.

There are lots of things I'm sure they could do to fix it, but I'm not sold that getting rid of crit entirely is a good idea in the long run. That's a hard sell to me.
