Cho is different. It's harder to place cho on a team. His ult is technically better than consume, but it's also an ult and that forces him to choose between eating dragon or eating a carry. Nunu's 2 combat spells provide him plenty of utility, and decent damage if you build a bit of AP. There's also the longer cooldown to consider. Nunu delivers a single target speed and security combination that cannot be matched.
That said, when you pick nunu, you are committing to winning the objective game. He is simply not as strong in fights. His ult's damage and utility are both good, but he needs to get a full channel to use it fully. Ice ball is limited in almost any application, though it is really strong for fucking one person over consistently. Blood boil is the carry's best friend. Just because he only has 2 spells that directly benefit his combat doesn't mean that his effect on the fight is useless. That ms and as buffed carry outputs a lot more dps and is a fuck ton harder to take down with the nunu there.
Ultimately, nunu's unmatched objective control gives a substantial lead to any team he's on. The new importance of dragons indirectly buffs him, as it's no longer global gold, but a massive benefit on top of that. a 5th dragon is a free baron, and a baron is a free dragon. These two monsters are far more impactful this season than they ever have been, and it makes nunu the best he's ever been, because he's the best at abusing them.
Nunu is almost exclusively an objective control jungler. You complained about not being able to steal it from Nunu when he already has control over the objective, when you could have been setting up to take better control of it. Also, he doesn't have good duelling potential, and you have over-exaggerated his snowball laughably so. A single target slow isn't so strong as to "fuck one person over consistently". That is like saying that Karthus's Wall of Pain is so strong that he auto-wins every fight he uses it in. It's all hyperbole.
The damage that Nunu deals in any fights is actually quite low, and relies on his team-mates for him to do well. His ganking potential is actually quite poor aswell. But it seems you like to ignore every weakness for your own argument's sake.
