Camille's a fighter that's probably the closest to getting the tank/assassin classification

Let's compare her to Xin Zhao, the most fighter-y bruiser in the game.

Xin Zhao relies on constantly being in melee range, and has a gap closer, making him very good at sticking in a melee range. He needs to constantly auto for sustain and to deal damage, but has low disengage.

Camille is ability reliant with a few auto resets, like talon (or fizz, in fact) she wants to stay in ability range before using a gap closer or an ability that specifically relies on autos. She also has a disengage and can make picks much better than Xin, making her closer to an assassin

She also has a tank steroid, 15% of her max health and AoE CC on a basic ability which makes her closer to a tank too.

I know why you think she is more like assassin. Her job is to catch enemy carries, making them not able to escape and, finally, kill them. But this defines two roles, bruiser and assassins.

Assassins uses burst damage to kill enemies. Rengar Talon Ekko Leblanc Khazix Zed Fizz Akali Katarina Those are great examples.

On the other hand, bruisers have constant damage and relies mostly on their basic attacks - as you metioned, Xin Zhao is a great example. Aatrox Irelia Kled Shyvana Trundle Tryndamere Hecarim

Those are other good examples.

Camilles damage comes mostly from her auto attacks (Q, R) and she has sustained damage (also I agree she can pull of a great burst as well, but Xin can do the same) But she is a very rare example of a foghter. She has great utility, so she can just jump from side to side, hitting where it hurts the most. But that doesn't mean she is an assassin. Since she needs to be close to their enemies to deal damage she needs a gap-closer or something to get in range. Just like many others, Aatrox Q, Irelia Q, Skaar.. I mean Kled Q, E, R, Shyvana R, W, Trundle W, E, Trynda E, Vi Q,R, Heca E, R. She just does it in a different way. For me she is bruiser, very very different bruiser, and also more fun to play bruiser. xD It's just something new.
