Ranked in the Preseason
Is there a purpose? :O Also, when does the next season start?
Not flaming, just curious.. went MIA the month prior to the season ending and am overwhelmed by the changes. God help me.

The new season as the RIOT said is starting 7th December ! Until then we are in preseason... The purpose is that preseason can help you to start on higher division in new season... As more as you can achieve now in preseason you will get higher division after 10 placement matches
There's very little impact that the preseason games have on your placements for the start of the season. While it can have some influence, it's not as important as your actual placement score ( 1/9, 2/8, 3/7 ... etc) The better you do in placements the better you will be placed according to your previous seasons mmr.

you have to do 2 placements instead of one - pre-season and the next season
it will likely tank your elo
if a player has an unranked acc it's even worse since they could avoid their elo being tanked whatsoever because the first placements are treated differently
