New Support Items are poorly implemented.

Most supports key stats -- especially early game -- are mana regen and CDR. These items gives you neither.

Later in the game a little bit of AP / AD or health is worthless for most supports and aside from granting vision this item just takes up space.

This item effectively handcuffs your gold income. Once you "turn it on" you lose the gold generating effect and you can't farm to make up for it because they lock you out of that too. (I'd rather the 3 gold income turn off ... 18 gold a minute is worthless. 180 gold in 10 minutes? So 2 cannon minions?)

They "normalize" skill difference between supports because once you collect your requisite amount of gold to turn it on, you cease to get any benefit from it , so any gold gap you have over your enemy support is quickly neutralized.
If the solo laners taking the support item is so game-breaking limit the team to one support item. Or have it only generate gold when in range of a teammate. Or something -- you're the game designers. Figure it out.
This current iteration is a mess.
All seriousness though I like the ability to take relic on other supports now but it doesn’t feel too great to be losing out on those stats and it’s also forcing supports to take farm which is slowing carries scaling down a little bit in the late game (in lower elo where they can’t farm this is especially prominent the carries won’t be full build until 30 as is let alone if support has to start taking ces)
