Mages now shred towers

So in the mage update, riot added something so that mages now deal addition damage to towers with their auto attacks scalling with their AP. I understand the idea, mage auto attacks are weak, riot wanted to make them stronger. i get that... except it is a terrible idea. Part of the trade off when you pick an ap champion is supposed to be that you just need to accept that your autos are basically useless. Mages are supposed to get the benefits of having abilities that deal more damage and have better utility and attack damage champions are supposed to have abilities that arent so heavy, but they can conveniently use their auto attacks whenever and expect a decent amount of damage to come from that. That is a large part of the fundamental trade off between ap and ad. So when annie auto attacks now deal 50 ad + 350 ap damage per hit to towers, meanwhile jinx is dealing 250 ad per hit, do you see why this mechanic might not be balanced? Riot, please learn to balance your game a little bit better, its full of flawed logic and broken champions

Mages always did bonus damage to turrets if they had high AP.

it used to be that mages auto attack damage scaled off of 40% of their ap if it was higher than their AD stat, this was fine because it honestly, the damage difference was somewhat insignificant but it gave mages SOME pushing power so that mages who are doing REALLY well can push or if its the late game and you are a team of mages you aren't 100% push incompetent. but again, the damage difference wasnt all that significant. but now mages are out damaging ADCs when it comes to attacking structures and that just isnt acceptable

ADCs have more high damage abilities, caster options, and CDR itemization than ever. ADCs are hogging in on the mid lane more than ever (barring s1 mid ashe but be srs). Not to say mages are ineffective, but the ADC update did a lot more for them than the mage update did for mages.

And you're concerned that mages got a little bit more effective at busting towers?

there is a lot wrong in the game right now, many roles are not fitting where they should, raid boss tanks are dealing too much damage, adcs are too mage like and in this particular thread i am complaining about mages shredding towers like nobodies business. just because i am complaining about one doesnt mean i dont realize that 100 other things are horribly wrong

Sure.

More toward that problem then.

I feel like they implemented it to allow mages to punish roaming champs since they nerfed mana regen. The more they punish wave clear (i.e. mana regen), the stronger roaming becomes because a mage would quickly deplete all their resources pushing a few waves to turret while Zed/Fizz/Leblanc mutilates the bot lane.

There needs to be a balance between roaming and pushing in the mid lane. Its not always profitable to follow the enemy mid laner into a dark jungle where you can get 1v2'd by enemy mid/jg. I guess Riot felt roaming would be too strong post-patch.

How would you have handled it?

They buffed AP tower damage slightly. So very slightly. It was like a 0.05 buff. Overall they just made it more visible.

Generally ADs still do more.

Though lichbane or Nashor +Sorc elixir users do shred towers. But they always have.

Unless I missed a change the bonus damage from Nashors doesn't apply to towers

That's true but attack speed is a very good stat for tower killing. Put a blue elixir on that for 25 true damage a hit and oh man.

All i know is im seeing annies and la blancs and other high damage mages autoing towers for 500 damage a hit after the 30 minute mark and that just simply cant be acceptable
