Why can't Leona proc her own passive?

It would make her a viable solo laner and even a niche jungler.

Even if the passive damage was reduced to make up for it.

She can't go anywhere other than bot lane due to having below average damage.

I would love to play Leona top, I really would.

But I just can't without getting facerolled with the below average damage base damage, which is that way in order to compensate for the passive high damage output, which I won't be able to use anyway because it can only be proc'd by someone else.

It's supposed to make her teamwork centric, kind of like Kalista if you think about it. She's the kind of tank who can take a last stand but will fall, but also the one to hold the line with her comrades.

Look at it like this: what other role will often see this passive being proc'd due to teamwork with allies? Jungle.

Build her a little AD and cinderhulk, and her ganks will be absolutely terrifying.

too bad her clear times suck compared to your average tank nowadays.

even with an AD/atk speed rune set.

Eh, I know...

But hey, look on the bright side. Compared to a lot of tanks, her pre-6 ganks aren't too shabby and her ultimate isn't limited by range or can be blocked by the frontline. Yes, I know other tank junglers are stronger, but Leona can be a valuable asset if played decently.

And as a jungle main, different junglers are better at ganking or better at clearing. Voli, for instance, clears pretty fast for a tank/fighter but his ganks... well they're not the best ever if you don't close the gap fast enough. Same with Udyr. Jarvan, from what I hear, has great ganks but not the best clear speed.

So she's a tank that can't clear fast. But she's a tank that can gank like nobody's business. Hell, you could pop in as early as level two for a first blood and a cheese gank, especially if you're at mid with a guy holding ignite.

You CAN play her top. CSing isn't hard at all and your jungler gets free kills. Not to mention her early game damage is stupid. Considering you'd be going full tank it isn't hard to survive and easily counter build your opponent

you can play AD Nami top.

but you shouldn't.

"CAN" doesn't mean "SHOULD"

There is no reason to pick her top as her damage falls off.

Renekton "falls off" late game, not because of his damage, but because of his general play style.

Leona falls off because she simply has no damage whatsoever.

Even if you need a CC power house with strong early game damage that scales, you can always pick Sion instead.

By that logic why play anything other than Sion top if you want a cc powerhouse?

If I went leona top i'd easily be able to deny the opposing laner kills as it's insanely hard to kill leona. Easily get them ganked by my jungler cause of massive CC. Able to roam immensly well to mid lane or help the allied jungler counter the enemy jungler. She offers a crap ton to her team going top lane. The best part is since she's top that gives you another support bot (say alistar) how do you expect anybody to kill your adc

Let's get one thing clear. You CAN play any champ anywhere, and you SHOULD if it's fun to you.

Get out with your 'but the damages!'
