What makes me upset about the Swain nerf

I understand this has been discussed many times now. But I just want to give my personal opinion

Most people (and even Riot) are justifying this nerf by saying the same statement: "Just because a champion is unpopular doesn't mean they are weak"

Yeah, that's true. But how can that be a reason to give such a big, direct nerf to Swain with no compensation? Are you saying that this particular champion is unpopular, but he is strong, so we nerf him so they turn from unpopular to never played champion?

Swain is barely seen in ranked games, how on earth is he a bigger issue than any of the other chamoions that are actually OP and popular in the same time (we all know who they are?. Why giving Swain such a stupid direct nerf and not nerf those?

I play Swain sometimes. And yeah maybe he is a little strong in his laning phase, but he is one of the worst last hitters in the game, I always end the laning phase with much lower cs than the enemy laner, and his wave clear isn't that amazing unless you burn all of your mana post-6.

He isn't really that strong late in the game, I played him alot and I understand this. He has to walk in melee range to actually do enough damage. All of his damage is DOT which makes him worse in big team fights as they most likely end pretty fast.

His heal isn't really something that makes him strong because he NEEDS it. He is very immobile and has short range abilities. So his heal is a compensation to this. That's how Swain was designed I believe.

The problem is that there are kids who keep crying because they get stomped against a Swain. It's simply because Swain is very unpopular so most people don't know how to counter him, not because he is strong.

He has zero mobility. He has huge mana costs. He can be easily countered with a 800 gold item. His heal isn't that good unless he is fed early, unlike darius heal for example.

TL;DR: Swain's nerf makes me upset because he is not the biggest issue right now to give him a direct and unjustified nerf. There are many other champions that stronger than him and more popular but they remain untouched (like Yasuo) or even get buffs (like Zed). And when Riot nerf an unpopular champion they give him a compense, but Swain's nerf is too direct and doesn't suit him at all.

Edit: I'm not saying that Swain is the weakest champion in the game, nor I am saying that nerf destroys him. I just find him fine as he is since he shouldn't be a primary target to give a small, but direct nerf.

Infact, I used to play Swain but I stopped playing him when I realized how he is boring to play imo and his kit doesn't make sense. How the hell is that a master tactician? I always wished they'd rework (not buff) Swain one day to give him a more interesting kid. This nerf made me lose hope for a rework which made me very disappointed. He also needs a visual update (his particles make my eyes bleed) and a new splash art.

Swain is too strong because of DFT, so lets nerf his non DoT abilities, because balance

Step 1: Find underplayed but strong champion. Step 2: Give nerfs, making the underplayed champion even less attractive to play. ??? Step 4: Profit!

Honestly. Swain had an amazing laning phase and a good late game and a god like mid game.

He has been borderline over powered for a very long time. Kind of like Sejuani pre-cinderhulk. Liandries being really good on him and the massive buff via black fire torch has pushed him over the edge and he needed some power trimming.

Hitting the 1 point wonder of his W was the correct approach. It weakens his early game and mid game but leaves his late game intact. You suggest that swain needs some sort of compensation. What do you suggest? From what I can see he will be just fine despite the nerfs.

Not to mention that they nerfed the one ability shouldn't be nerfed. I'm ok saying that Swain is a little strong (I played him quite often in ranked and stomped in my elo), but nerfing his W is DEFINITELY the wrong way to go about it. Nerf his point and click E by a slight margin, not the skillshot.

Nerfing Malzahar W makes sense due to the fact that it's not a terribly efficient move early on. (I play Malz a good amount too)

Nerfing Swain W cuts a huge portion of not only his CC, but all of his other damaging moves that require him to be in range. Q and R will get less procs and E damage will be reduced as well because of it.

If (and this is still taking into account that Riot still believes Swain is OVERLY strong), they're compeltely nerfing the wrong move. They're nerfing Swain right after the new masteries, of which he abuses Dethfire Touch because of the DoT synergy. How about instead of nerfing the W, they nerf his somewhat overbearing E?

Again, I hate that they're nerfing Swain, but if they did have to nerf something, it should be the E

Yasuo and Zed both were way weaker than Swain post hotfix.

Swain's issue is his survivability that is also linked to his damage. He does immense damage and gets rather beefy while also getting impossible to kill because of his ult. His kit just gives im too much in terms of safety. Course, they should also nerf the shit out of Tahm for these exact same reasons, but they are too stupid to do so....

The response I got from RiotRepertoir

RR- "I'm not 100% certain, but I'd guess it's because the team thinks W is giving too much value as a 1-pt wonder."

And as someone who does main Swain, this isn't wrong.
