When do i go in on Aphelios?

Usually when a champion comes out it takes me a few games to get used their play style, and I can handle them on my main Thresh. However, im having a lot of trouble with aphelios. What a gathered from my few games is that he level 1 is ass, but once that is over he is kinda impossible to deal with unless your adc Draven or something with high early damage.

I tried to see which gun combination is his weakest but they are all extremely good.

  • His sniper shot is usually paired with his pistol or stun gun so when you go in on him he will either stun you and disengage or swap to pistol and q your entire hp bar. (Also he plays very far when equipping this weapon )
  • His stun gun, is rarely used as his primary so you cant really abuse it
  • His pistol, you go in on and unless you explode he will q and win any trade, due to its sustain
  • His flame thrower/ shot gun does way to much damage to fight him with it
  • Finally his boomerang is probably your best chance at kill him, but every time i play against an aphelious and they are in that gun they spam their q (turret) just to waste the charges as quick as possible. (which the turrets kinda give them a defensive edge from me, especially if its the stupid shot gun flame thrower)

Does anyone know like any good tips to when its the best time to engage on him?

Basically don't go in on him with primarily boomerang and secondary blood pistol those are his 2 biggest survivors. Grav is usually only good for catching not as much for surviving. Rifle is for poke, flamethrower is aoe. Mostly tho its just boomerang you need to avoid due to turret. Boomerang is by far his highest damage output chance. The grav gun is a snare not a stun, so you can still attack/cast while hit by it.

All guns deal pretty much the same damage however. Flamethrower doesn't deal anymore damage than rifle or pistol or grav, thats just the aoe effect you see it "feels" strong cause teamfight, it does do more. Single target however, is boomerang, they will win 2v3 if he has boomerang up.

Pay attention to offhand more than mainhand, because his Q (aside from grav gun) applies offhand effect. So if he has a boomerang and grav up, his turrets now SLOW you as well

The boomerang does increased dps for 2 reasons.

  1. Highest attack speed the closest you get to him, and turret is basically him autoing twice
  2. If boomerang is offhand, and he Q's with mainhand, it stacks boomerangs circling him, causing his autos to deal bonus damage, thus it is his hardest hitting

Don't be scared of Aphelios early game damage, you actually can win on him vs his early pistol heal, as long as you can stay on top of him. He has 0 mobility (the best being his pistol spin giving him move speed) and you can cancel his pistol spin with CC. So, if you get on top of him when that up, as long as grav isn't there he's probably toast. He also feels insanely squishy. Just understand his Q interactions with offhands, and the different types of ults are good in what situation.

Rifle ult = He wants to ult a pack to nuke a single target Pistol ult = He wants to big heal Grav ult = He wants to aoe snare Flame ult = He wants to aoe your whole team...very deadly with hurricane Boomerang ult = he wants to nuke 1 target and NOT hit multiple targets.

Aggressive early with any supp will work but cc tank seems to be better but draven smacks him around all day . You going to lose lane if you go a late game adc like twitch or vayne so either poke him like varus or all in early damage like draven
