Why was Nami mid nerfed?

Nami used to have pretty good ap ratios but then they got nerfed. How come? They even encouraged Nami mid in her champion spotlight. Unlike old Soraka and Lulu, Nami is actually pretty balanced if she was given good ap ratios. Her stun isn't targeted and easy to dodge, she can hold her own in a solo lane with her W and she has to get in close range to kill someone. I think it would be really interesting for Nami mid to become a thing.

For those of you that don't know, here's the nerfs.

Q - AP Ratio 65% -> 50%

R - AP Ratio 70% -> 60%

These may not seem like a lot but it hurt her solo lane pretty bad. I thought the ratio nerfs were pretty unnecessary too. Could we perhaps see some AP ratio buffs in the future? Kind of odd you slightly encourage it in her champion spotlight but nerf her ratios a few patches later.

No. Like most champion spotlights her champion spotlight is irrelevant. Her kit was designed from the ground up to be in a duo lane and it is one of the few kits Riot actually got right. As she is now she is one of the most balanced champions in the game. She would be extremely toxic in the mid lane and it would only end up with a string of nerfs that would break her in both mid and support.

I don't see how Nami would be worse in a solo lane than someone like Orianna

Kayle and Nidalee have been balance problems for a loooong time, with Nid effectively being taken out of lane and Kayle just being usually weak.

Sona has also been balanced around being a support, but additionally doesn't have any hard CC pre 6, and only a single damaging basic ability

Kayle, Nidalee, Sona, etc.

Both Sona and Nid have been tuned/reworked out of mid lane. Kayle, the former jack of all trades champion, remains in a half baked state.

Not really. Last time I played her mid, didn't even look at where I was going, lol... and was against an LB beat her easy.

I agree. While she might be a D Tier mid To, I wouldn't mind helping her so she at least becomes C or B tier mid owner. Like why. Ot I would love to play with or face a fed mid lane nami! I'm sure she'd be a great addition to the game. Just like karma Lulu zyra etc.

She wasn't nerfed for mid-lane. She was buffed in utility scaling for bot lane. All supports had their AP ratio nerfed for utility scaling to encourage them seeing support play over mid/top play.

Doesn't work to well with some kits, though.

I don't get why they nerfed her ap ratios tho. AP builds on supports wasn't meta at the time and Nami is the most balanced in terms of solo lanes compared to the other supports like Janna, Lulu and old Soraka.

She is not the most balanced solo laner at all. She is balanced from the ground up to not be there. Period. She has crap wave clear for that very reason. So do all the supports released after her (Thresh, Bard, Braum). Both the Taric and Soraka reworks removed them from the solo lane. Supports are no longer designed to be functional in the solo lane.
