It's understandable if you get angry at me if I ban your pick intent. If you however don't show your intent by at least hovering over a champion, it's not my fault if I ban it. I'm not some sort of genie with magical powers.

Exactly. But no, people are too much egoistic and dumb to understand. When will they learn...not any time soon.

the problem is picking something off-meta as your pick intent, ''oh I see nautilus top as pick intent''bans nautilus because of meta sheep I never show pick intent, satan forbid I play a champion that isn't popular

DrCyanide10 votes

If they're actually off meta, then they're unlikely to be banned if you don't hover them. If they do get banned without you hovering, then it is a fluke in that one game, and you can deal with it.

yeah that's what I meant, if I pick something like shaco top which isn't meta it has a high chance of getting banned in my experience so in order to make sure I can actually play what I want to play it's best for me not to use the pick intent feature

so you're saying that you're better off not hovering anything because people might intentionally ban it but then this thread is complaining about people not picking the champion and being angry cause its banned endless cycle of retardation which can be easily solved by riot disabling the ability for team mates to ban picked champions

You're over simplifying.

Is your champion a popular ban?

  • If yes, hover. Your teammates might not ban them out of respect that you want to play them.
  • If not, don't hover. Your teammates are unlikely to ban them, it can only cause issues if someone doesn't like your champ.

Did your champion get banned?

  • If no, then enjoy the game.
  • If yes, don't get mad. It happens, just pick another champ and move on. What you do from here on out is no different than if the enemy team had banned it.

so can you tell me what is the purpose of hovering if im at the risk of my champ being banned by my team either way? the function is completely worthless as it is the equivalent of typing 'im gonna play [champion]' in the chat

DrCyanide2 votes

Hovering has multiple parts to it.

Hovering before ban phase = "please don't ban X." It's a request, not a demand, and there are times when popular champions don't get banned because a teammate hovered them.

After ban phase = a clear indication of what you're currently thinking of playing. You can bounce back and forth between multiple champions quickly, showing what you're considering at the moment a lot faster and clearer than typing them out. It also gives teammates a better feel for what would go with your pick - if you hover an aggressive support the bot laner may go something more aggressive than they were planning.

the function is completely worthless as it is the equivalent of typing 'im gonna play [champion]' in the chat

It's slightly better than that, because it shows who's hovering what in the list of champions. So someone who's panic banning/picking will see that a teammate has it hovered before they lock in.

It's not intended to be drastically different than calling out what you prefer to play in chat.

Right there with ya, brother. I’m a top lane main and I love metamancing, but playing against bots gives no beneficial training or information. I don’t normally hover unless I’m playing meta. Right now I’m working on Ashe top with Phase Rush. Works pretty well on its own, but I need to learn to freeze the lane in a favorable spot since 90% of the time my lane gets camped.

Immobile marksmen are GREAT top in a pure 1v1 situation. Twitch for instance shreds tanks to little bits. The issue is that you will never have a pure 1v1. Any competent jungler will see you as a walking bag of gold.

Hence, why toplane marksmen tend to be the ones with some kind of escapability. Teemo Quinn UrgotGnar Jayce etc.

You know who I think could possibly actually rock the toplane though, who is never played there? Tristana - I'm oddly shocked that she's never been played there, ever, as far as I can recall. Waveclear, push, jump...she's got it all. Seems fun, especially if you just explode minions at melee champs constantly.

Dokueki Kenshin2 votes

Yeah, that’s why I need to work on smarter warding, map awareness, jungle knowledge, and wave management. Ashe’s W (and ult post-6 are on short enough of a cooldown that with those and your itemization, there’s enough to self peel against Hanks. I seriously think it’s less of the matchups themselves and more of me just not being good enough to work, which is why I keep practicing it.

I’ll definitely have to give Trist top a try. Seems legit.

That's great news!

Tom Hanks is the only champion I can never find a peel on, he just goes "I...I have made fire", and uses Cast Away, and I just get deleted.

Lol, autocorrect is not my friend. It’s all over for me when Wilson joins him in top lane, though.

By the way, I just tried Tristana top twice, one won, one lost. She's actually really not too bad - she's an exceptional pusher first push - but you have to be really careful because one successful gank puts you immediately behind probably for the whole game, feels much like Lucian that way. She has no ability to come back from behind if she falls down on the waveclear.

The real problem is, it's a spicy pick, you will lose some games trying this, and every time you lose you'll get screamed at and reported.

But maybe you're braver than I am.

''optimally'' it has nothing to do with playing optimally and everything to do with sheep, remember support annie? people called it garbage, and then, without any buffs to annie or nerfs to anyone else, she got popular because it got used in a tournament, she went in solo queue from ''lol annie support? uninstal idiot'' to ''OMG SOMEONE PICK ANNIE SUPPORT'' in the span of 1 day because in reality meta sheep don't care about playing ''optimally'' they care about playing what's popular and meta and what's used by the pro's.

I'm unranked and low elo where this is especially common. I had been playing Zyra as support which I almost never saw in low elo. So I didn't even know she could be support until my friend told me I should try her since I had a bad habit of being to aggressive and could be more aggressive and poke more from a safer position with her. Then suddenly they buffed her root and she became S tier and I actually had to start fighting for my main.

Andrey03452 votes

How can they even blame you after that? Like, I do get a bit toxic when I show my intent and they ban it because "didn't notice" but when I'm too slow/forget to show intent and it gets banned, there is nothing to talk about.

You make a reasonable point though. People suck.
