it is how it works. matchmaking does not match you with and against better players. it always just tries to make an average game of your rank.

you can go to sites like lolnexus.com and look at your team and the enemy team. the more your own mmr climbs, the more you can see the rank of your teammates decreasing.

there is also a number on the bottom for both teams, that says "team mmr". this number is what is important for the matchmaking system. it will always try to make teams of the same "team mmr". so when your own mmr increases faster than your rank, it matches you with lower mmr teammates to still form a team with a "team mmr" for your rank.

at the end you will get a team that is impossible to carry. youre 1 gold mmr player with 4 bronze mmr players who will lose every lane to the silver 2 or silver 3 enemy team.

it is why you will often see complaints on the forum, of people winning their lane and the rest of their team losing and feeding. because they won too many games in a row, the matchmaking starts to put terrible players on their team to keep the team mmr lower.
