Take a lesson from Master x Master and improve your lobby system.

Master x Master may be a dead game and most people probably never even heard of it, but there are several things I think Riot needs to take a look at from Master x Master's game that should be added to League of Legends.

Currently on League when sitting between games you are just sitting around with the ability to send messages with a chat box, nothing really else other than purchases. However on Master x Master, you actually interacted with people outside of game. People you never met before even in game. You could actually meet random people and chat with them with the ability to walk around as any character you choose.

Imagine walking around as your favorite league character in a lobby system where you can que up for normals, ranked or PvE (Master x Master had amazing PvE boss battles). That's what I want to see from riot games. A lobby system like this and more PvE content which they obviously borrowed from this game already.

I want to walk around in a lobby as Teemo. Then I'll go between male champion's legs and spam "Size doesn't mean everything."

The League client isn't even working 100% perfectly right now, it's very clunky. Adding this would just make it even worse. It's not a bad idea, but under the current circumstances it doesn't seem possible.

thats the unfortunate part, cause riot isnt smart enough to ever fix their client, so well never have fun additions like this to the game. small indie company:)

God I miss Master x Master.

I miss Poharan.

MXM was so friggen good, its amazing how they devastated that game with just a single patch, i've never seen dev as bad as NCSoft ever.

Same, loved it. My favorite combos for PvP were Moro/arami, Mondo/R&B, Dr. Raoul/jingtai, statesman/jingtai, Vonak/Ghost Widow, Pancuga/Jingtai (I really loved Jingtai obviously lol) But I loved and played pretty much all the characters especially in PvE which I probably liked even more than the PvP

Porharan was definitely fun and a fun boss to fight.

MXM had some pretty sick and catchy music. Arami's theme. Poharans guitar solo for her theme. Yes, even upside down.

But the best music in thst game in my opinion was the master select music.

I got tingles hearing it.

I miss Dr Raoul. The game had so much potential but they messed it up so badly. Then had the nerve to say it failed because it couldn't compete with the big names.

What did they do? I just know the reason they gave D:

Patch 1.3 was the patch that killed the game.

So before patch 1.3 the games Masters (champions for league) were notoriously hard to obtain. You could not just buy them with in game currency, you needed a special kind of currency called sol. New masters required more sol.

Sol was the hardest thing to obtain. It was only very rarely awarded during events. Logging in for 30 days straight. Rewards for doing monthly missions or sometimes obtained via doing PVE on the hardest difficulty (and even then it required you pay 1 sol just to attempt it)

You could bypass the grind by payng xcoin, which was the premium currency for that game. Xcoin prices were STUPIDLY high. The only upside was you could get free xcoin in small ammounts every day by doing your weekly missions.

Balance wise the game was alright. It had some issues but it was pretty on top of things in my opinion.

AND THEN PATCH 1.3 HAPPENED

NCsoft went full potatoe with this patch.

  • Sol was removed as a PVE reward making it even harder to obtain.
  • the cost of Sol per master increased, alot. Making masters harder to get.
  • free xcoin award for completing missions was reduced by a whopping 80%
  • everything in the shop incresed in price by 20-50%. Skins, masters, everything
  • balance went out the window with some changes to the sttack system.
  • server stability got a lot worse. More lag and DC's
  • buying xcoin got more expensive.

Before this patch went live the community rallied together to try and stop it. NCSoft was warned that these changes would kill the game. NCSoft's reply was to literally ban anyone who spoke ill of the changes on the forum in an attemp to silence negative feedback.

All it took was a week after that patch and the game was dead. Fed up with NCsoft almost everyone had quit. Shortly after NCSoft announced it was stopping service.

Patch 1.3.

Never forget.

Damn not sure if I should be glad or sad that I forgot about that game before it came out. Because I had heard about it before it was available for everyone to play but never got around too playing it after it released (not enough advertising imo) liked the concept of it shame I never got to play it

toravi1 votes

Daaaaaaaamn, I do remember that the money to xcoin was ridiculous high even before that patch. I stopped playing it for a little bit before the patch and played a little after it was announced to be closed. Just shit, I guess that's what happens when you don't listen to your player base. You know, the people that make you the money. I wonder how much they lost because I know they refunded if you bought any of the xcoin.

D3m37r11 votes

Also the champions were badly designed and the Natium Defense line was missing since forever.

why bother, this game is complete dung now ever since the introduction of runes reforged, unless it is scrapped i don't see the point in adding something like that. the game has done nothing but go down hill gameplay wise since the season 6 preseason.

I mean, it'd bring more social to the game outside of the gameplay that drives us all nuts. That was always one really great thing about Master x Master, you could be completely pissed at PvP and just relax in lobby with other pissed people and calm down, or take your frustrations out on the PvE content.

HaIlMonitor1 votes

That can ruin games too. Nothing is worst then not being able to find groups (I know we have ques but in MMO's) and everyone wants to just stand in an area and chill.

HiredGûn1 votes

that would never happen tho with leagues high player base...

All good, it was a pretty fun moba that was sadly out less than a year. Good game killed by a bad company, NCSoft.

D3m37r11 votes

It was supposed to be a moba/mmo hybrid. So there were regular moba matches as well as mmo style missions.

They had such amazing PvE in their game, I barely even touched the PvP because it was so fun. Shame they ruined their game with overpricing and lack of advertisement.

The PvP was awful and honestly I was not surprised to see the game die since it was made by Ncsoft and they don't have the best designers and balancing team and have a huge history of destroying games even before they are released.

HaIlMonitor1 votes

Its weird because they peaked in GW1. Everything about that game was so perfect, but sense then it seems like their games are missing huge aspects that made that game loved.

I mean, I enjoyed the PvP but the PvE is what they definitely did best in that game. Loved it and miss it all the time.

But yeah, NCSoft is a terrible company that likes to ruin their games. I still think League could learn something from that game as far as ideas to add to their own.

ValiantKiller1 votes

Well MxM came from a company that made amazing game with storyline and pve modes called BnS, so the lobby part and pve ofcourse going to be amazing but sadly the game is dead.

Yeah I freaking loved Master x Master and the game was amazing, sadly it was made by NCsoft who love to ruin their own games. Feelsbad. I stopped playing League for MONTHS something I generally never do just to play that game, it was so fun. The PvE was probably my favorite, was constantly doing nightmare missions for the challenge.

I just want to see some of MxM's gameplay/lobby system adopted to League of Legends.

MxM was the only serious PC exclusive game other than League I actually considered when playing it, that I would get into. It ended so quick though. Their PvE modes were excellent, as was their Titan PvP mode.

While there were many things about MxM that I adored, the menu systems that expanded into a social lobby has been something I disliked from game to game -- from Dragonball games evolving from Tenkaichi menu to FighterZ menu, or Halo menu to Destiny Lobbies. It just feels like an artificial menu designed to waste more time getting to selections and doing what you want so you can interact with some people that grows old quick. This is my personal view on it of course because I always valued quick menus that got me where I wanted and had a social hub as its own component rather than an integrated macrostructure.

I guess it's preference, I personally enjoyed the lobby and meeting new people. I got to meet HotshotGG on there, he started CLG on there and I even got to talk to him on discord for a short amount of time.

MXM was just so much more social than League.

I met HotshotGG and Lilypichu, I was actually in Lily's club ever since she made it. We were all in love with the game but they destroyed it like the idiots of NCsoft are. [sg-janna]

Do you actually think that an Free to Play game is going to implement such an expensive lobby model, copied from a game that was closed (probably because it wasn't making enough money)?

HiredGûn1 votes

"free to play" yet the biggest game in the world, and they make so much money that implementing a change like this would be chump change to them. it died because of NCSofts terrible decision making and dev team.

Blossom of Time1 votes

I really miss MXM I really loved playing as innowin. She was so fun to play, sniping people from a screen away lol!
