Getting mastery 6 and 7 tokens from ARAM games

I was wondering why there's no way to do as the title describes. The grading system has been around for a while, and I think a lot of people would love to get those tokens! Yes, I know that the grading system for ARAM and SR games is different, but we get the same letter grades regardless.

(Aka: I'm sad because I just got an S on Viktor in ARAMs and am therefore unable to get a mastery 7 token.) [sg-soraka]

I think you can get shards from either mode (if I remember correctly)

As you originally guessed, you cannot receive the mastery tokens in ARAM.

I believe that the intention of mastery is to show that you've earned the mastery through regular gameplay (read: Summoner's Rift). For this reason, you can't earn a mastery token anywhere outside of Summoner's Rift PvP.

However, I will say this: I think the whole mastery system for levels 6 and 7 is somewhat flawed. I like the idea that mastery beyond 5 can only be earned on the Rift, but the implementation is a little sketchy. Right now, mastery 6 & 7 doesn't necessarily imply you have mastered the champion. You could simply enjoy playing the champion and had a few lucky games where you pulled out the appropriate grade.

With the recent 'stats' feature I think they could fix this by giving masteries beyond 7 for players who have strong performances on the rift while allowing players to receive mastery tokens (for 6 & 7) on any map.

TLDR: I think they want tokens to only be earned through regular gameplay on the Rift. Mastery doesn't necessarily show that you are decent at the champion, though, so the system sort of makes sense but at the same time it doesn't!

I get that! I've seen someone get an S grade because they stole three kills with a single Nami ult on SR. The system is very forgiving for some champs, and absolutely impossible for others (I'll mention my misfortunes with Viktor on the Rift this time). It seems like if they made it more based on merit rather than luck, it would make it more palatable to grade.

But then again, kills don't make everything. CS doesn't make everything. They can HELP, but someone just farming top lane and never helping in team fights isn't the same as someone actually contributing to the game as a whole.

Still feelsbadman. I've been wanting to get lvl 7 on Viktor to add to my "one trick mage playing collection."

Yeah, no doubt. Earning the S usually means a nice well rounded performance.

Under the current implementation of mastery, I'd be perfectly OK with tokens awarded in any PvP mode. I do hope one day they have a system for higher mastery levels based off of your stats for a champion.

I hope so too. The only thing the grading system could possibly offer now is level 8 mastery based upon getting S+ grades, which... shudders

Might as well let all modes give tokens. Mastery level isn't synonymous with skill. You could have a few lucky games and get a few S and get mastery level 7 on a champion, it doesn't mean you are good at them. Hence why you get the occasional mastery level 7 Yasuo that goes 0/5 in 10 minutes.

shrug

I agree that for some people, S grades aren't based solely on skill, but... That same Yasuo could be having problems with lag, a counter, or a bunch of other things. I dont think people that SUCK at a champion get S- or higher grades consistently enough to make such an argument.
