@Riot Art, any stance on Jhin's eye color?

Yay! Jhin's colored lore is finally out, and people keep asking about Jhin's eyes color, so I thought I'd bring that conversation to its own page.

My guess is his eyes are intended to be an amber/brownish color, but no one really ever noticed they were blue in-game. Biggest reason would likely be you'd have to zoom the camera all the way in just to catch a glimpse of his eye.

That said, Riot does tend to adjust colors on skins and champions when appropriate. They might sneak in a color swap for his eye at some point. Probably wouldn't be a high priority, though.

The eyes' are probably blue with the model so it can pop out compared to the black.

A brown eye would probably make it more difficult to see and blend in more with the darker colors.

Assuming it's not just a thing done so you can see it in game I would think it's tied to his mask. I mean the mask changes his voice so I can't imagine eye color would be that hard for somebody with as much magical prowess as Jhin.

Perhaps I don't understand what you mean. Masks of course muffle a person's voice. But his eye isn't attached to his mask.

But the idea of his eyes being able to CHANGE color because he's so magically adept is an interesting point!

The mask magically alters his voice as stated in the Jhin Q&A, that's why when he talks there is that musical sound behind his voice. and having it so it make his eye appear a different color shouldn't be to hard of a feat for a magical item like that.

Uhhhhhh the lines with the choir/music is his inside voice, he talks to himself - it's not the mask. The mask however muffles his normal voice, that's what you hear when you're against him, mostly.

The question -

_Would Khada Jhin mean "golden demon" in Ionian language? Is he missing an eye or does he cover it up? Was he injured somehow or did he choose to modify himself with prosthetic? Why does his mask disappear when he dies? Why does his voice sound more machine like than human? And how do I trigger the creepy humming / laughing at the start of the game, is it random? nope. Though it does mean golden excellence. _

He covers up a perfectly working eye and mouth. not injured. it looks cool. And it was made magically. He augments his voice using the mask. Meant to sound musical not mechanical.... hmmm random. He has banks of possible interactions.

That's very strange!! This definitely shows a lack of knowledge or collaboration on the lore team's part.

... Or maybe WAAARGHbobo is talking about the reverberation of Jhin's voice while saying things out loud to other champions. Because the voice actor probably muffled his own voice to get something similar to being masked, some people may think that Quinton Flynn sounded mechanical.

I dunno. Maybe. Who knows?

I thought about this one too, that the mask simply makes his eyes look reddish/brownish. I can only imagine that as an Ionian (they're the Asians in this world, right?), blue eyes wouldn't be too common, so he can't really risk it to be seen, it stands out too much maybe??

The other theory I had about this that he only thinks he has brown/red eyes, and in the splash art he sees himself in the mirror, in the video we see him from his own head - so we see brown/red eyes. But WAAARGHbobo said that he doesn't hallucinate or have any illusions, so the first theory is more likely.

That, or the art team simply trolled us, how disappointing would that be. :'(

That would have to be some sick shadow work from that mask, to make blue eyes look amber!

I dunno. I kind of feel like they're supposed to be brown or amber. That's what I figure, with the whole asiatic trait stuff, but there's also a little girl with pink hair and a giant hell bear, so who knows? XD

Thinking about it,I could see Jhin actually using colored contacts. I mean his color text makes it clear that he is a master of disguise.

For me, personally, I'm a bit anal about details. If I see something so... Inconsistent, I get a little annoyed. Am I picky? Probably.

(Oh, and speaking of art, found one of your pieces while eating lunch. I was eating a ~~certain~~ Asian food, and nearly died from choking on it cause it startled me. You certainly are good at drawing, even though it startled me. So thank you. RIP Taicho.)

For me, it's for the art/imagining the other physical sides of the character but I'm also bothered by this inconsistency just like you LOL

Rest in pepperonis, I'm glad(?) you enjoyed(?) my little scribble of him. Was it this one? After drawing this I was all like "I haven't eaten gyoza for a while, they're just too good, I have to go out to have some", and a few days later I went out with a friend to eat, and... While they were the most tasty little things ever, it was an unsettling feeling. To just hold the chopsticks as he would, looking at the food. I didn't think it would connect this much, to eat the things a fictional character enjoys eating too. WTF?? But this was before the color text. Before that, he was just a funny murderous stickman eating. Right. Haha ha ha

Now I'm so stirred emotionally over this guy that it's just amazing, and I feel that my depictions of him are just mere kid's drawings, like what you did in elementary school. And I did a full-blown comic page of him, worked for hours on that (I never ever do bigger things like this), while drawing/painting it I felt it was gonna be the best thing in the world. It pretty much broke me, drawing crime scenes is not a good feeling. ... and now I feel it's SO BAD, it doesn't nearly describe what and how he does the things he does, I feel like I didn't capture the horridness of Khada Jhin at all.

Sorry for pouring my soul out to you, but since you mentioned my drawing... I can understand how the creators of Jhin had to take breaks when working on him. He's beyond horrible and terrifying, but at the same time you pity this amazing wreck of a human.

Oh my goodness! Don't apologize! For lack of better term, though, that's what makes a good artist (even that word makes me a little ehhhh, thanks Rito)! You get emotionally attached to each piece, and since absolutely nothing in life can truly be PERFECT, you put yourself down for it. And for that reason, yes, I enjoyed it. I enjoy seeing what people are interested and passionate about! And the fact that you're trying new things just shows that passion is growing, and that's awesome! Try to keep that in mind!

I get the same way with my medium: a camera. I pride myself on not using programs like Photoshop, and I think I've used a filter ONCE (black and white), and because of that, I have impossible expectations for myself. And no, your work is not that of an elementary school kid. You put detail and heart into it, which not a lot of people can do in the first place! **Be proud of what you do, OK? Cause, trust me, not a lot of people can, myself included. **

... Actually, around where I am, one could say that you "shoot" photos. So I was in some parts of a place called Arizona (think of any High Noon skin and you get the atmosphere of the place) and my father said "Who are you shooting now?" I almost dropped my US $1,000 camera down a cliff. It was one of the most horrible revelations I had in my little art... Eh...

And, um, yes. It was that picture. Hah, I remember during the week after the Q&A, my mother and I were trying new Asian places to eat at by me. I probably had dumplings 2-3 times that week, and each new time, a part of my soul died. I kept a straight face throughout, so there's that, I guess... Heh...

God, I don't know how Riot kept their cool when making this, as you call it, murderous stickman. I play champs like Malzahar, who's spooky and cryptic, and I'm one of... 3 people that mains Swain, whose lore is intense, but his lines... Not so much. And then we get this guy. I remember seeing the Mind of the Virtuoso trailer for the first time on a train to New York City, and I was frozen in place. And then later on I listened to his quotes, and was frozen again. And then a few days later those "additional lines" came out, and it was dark in my room and I was all alone with my noise-cancelling headphones, and I was like "WELL OKAY THEN GG WHO NEEDS SLEEP ANYWAY?" And no champ does that to me. Not a lot of characters do that to me. And now with this new lore? ... Yeah. Rito did a great job. Seriously.

I somehow wouldn't have thought my scribblings would have the power to unsettle. It's pretty scary, I look at all those drawings of him and I become nervous now. But I also want to draw him over and over. I want to picture him in the most perfect manner. See, this guy made me do a shitton of drawings and I'm learning SO MUCH just by drawing him over and over. He made me passionate about drawing again. Big time. I'm also getting recognised. I made new awesome friends. Jhin OP, GG.

By the elementary school level I meant how I pictured him a drawing, somehow I feel I can't emphasise his character enough, idk how to express this one better. I'm getting there when I don't really stress about if that one drawing can go up somewhere public, or I can show my sketchbook to my friends without too much "stage fright". I got to that amazing point where I see comments on my drawings that "I love her style". For me, that's like the biggest compliment. I always wanted to have a distinguished style, and I'm getting there. Like you do! Do you have a gallery somewhere?

I am proud to say that I have been to Arizona. I was actually born in the US, lol. Holy shit that must've been scary. Both the camera and both the dumpling scenes. I'll still eat them but will always have the uneasy feeling. But I think I'll favor ramen and sushi over gyoza from now on haha.

I think I was a lot more hyped about Kindred when I saw their trailer - I'm a sucker for eerie tales. Also they're like Miyazaki figures. The Mind of the Virtuoso somehow didn't get me, I thought him to be interesting, but... And then came the leak of his abilities and splash art. I was like, what is this weird looking guy, with that weird hump, mask and Fiddlestick legs? He looked so very odd. And then came his ability videos, his VO, his music and BANG I was in love. And now this story. I'm also a huge sucker for villains, every show I watch I love the villains. This guy is so carefully crafted, so much detail, just SO REAL. I need more characters like this, I want to play humans who have this crafted personalities. But this guy tho, he will always have a special place in my heart. So broken, so wreched. Me thinks that this is what got you too - so much human-like personality, even if it's an ill one.

"Art should terrify!" But seriously, good art elicits reactions, whether they're feelings of happiness, sadness, or in your case, uneasiness! And the fact that you found a subject to draw that makes you love drawing more and more is awesome to say the least!

In order to emphasize a character like Jhin, you would need to, well, let go of a piece of sanity, would you not? I think you do a fine job of being able to show someone that can blend into society, and you find that they're... Off... But by then it's too late!

Do I have a gallery?? Ah, no! By me, there's no space, and I don't have a little thing called money. Some of my pictures have been on display at my college, as well as in the newspaper from said college, but... Nah, these days only people close to my laptop can see my work. And even if I was to have a gallery, I would be so fixated on having the perfect shots on display, which means different things to different people! I'm not nervous about showing people photos. I'm more worried of people saying that THEY took the picture.

But if and when people say "Can I see your photos from ~~~ place," I'm more than happy to oblige! I have over 6,500 photos spanning from last week to 2009. Flowers, buildings, a surprising amount of birds... I pretty much have a picture for every need these days! For a lack of better term, I like showing people what I see. I love their reactions. I've been [immensely] privileged enough to be able to travel to places that not a lot of my family or friends have seen, and I like telling them a story with my photos!

Hah, during that little camera scene, I couldn't help but laugh about it. Nervously. It actually freaked me out more when one of my IRL friends I play League with suggested that I name my camera "Whisper." It takes a lot for me to be speechless. Boy... Was I speechless...

Yeah, I admit I giggle nervously when someone's like "Hey! Have some dumplings!" Especially cause I like them so much... And sushi too... Well... Pretty much Asian food in general... Or, really, I get that way about a lot of different things these days, thanks Rito. Being the youngest of four children, my birthday being on the fourth month and at 4:48pm (four minutes past 4:44), having water lilies be a subtle thing in my room for years without noticing it, my fourth dog being my favorite (her name's "Ginger," and she gets pleasure out of taking cotton out of her stuffed toys mercilessly)... Just... Stuff like that.

Oh! You're from the US and you're now in EUNE? That's gotta be pretty cool, being able to see lots of different places in your life like that!

I remember seeing the Mind of the Virtuoso and thinking to myself "Riot wouldn't make a creepy serial killer guy! NAAAAH." But it was really creepy to me. And the music! I'm SUCH a sucker for music!! Then when we saw previews of the stickman (or as I tend to call him, the noodle), I thought he was related to Viktor in some way. Some cyborg-looking lanky man with hextech. I thought maybe he was going to reverse the Glorious Evolution by, well, making them into nature at its most primal form: plants. Oh, I was so wrong... Boy was I so wrong... And I was like "Oh, Riot DID make a serial killer. Tencent's not gonna like THIS!" And lo and behold, censorship issues!

But I love his character. He's perfect in his imperfections because of the awesome story thus far! It's extremely bold of Riot to make a character with such DEFINED issues and flaws. People don't like talking about mental health in general, so to have a character enveloped in it is just... I admire that! And the voice was just... Spot on... Once again, being a sucker for audio, it got at my core. But I do wanna learn more about him! The moment Riot makes more lore, I'll be on board!

Where did I find that picture? I was just scrolling through Tumblr and stumbled upon it! I originally was looking for Malzahar art, but someone made a piece with Malz and Jhin in it, so I was like "I wonder what kind of art people have made for him?" And so I just scrolled around!
