Honest question to Riot employees: Why is the Champion Mastery in-game icon a thing?

I find that the champion mastery icon is the most annoying thing that has ever been added to League of Legends. It's almost exclusively used as a way to taunt players that have been defeated and whenever I see one being used after getting a kill (whether they are on my team or not--it doesn't matter to me) I get annoyed. You can say I have thin skin and you're welcome to say that, but I do not see any reason to keep the emote in the game. It's loud, annoying, takes up space on the screen and only serves as another means to be mocked by the already massively toxic community. There are good and nice people that play League, I know that and I've met several. But almost every other game I play I have to meet at least one player who spams that stupid mastery icon like it was their destiny to do so.

Can this thing just get removed already? Or changed so that only teammates can see it? Or, I don't know, put a toggle option somewhere in the menus so I don't have to look at it anymore?

I'll probably just get down-voted for this but I'm so frustrated. Am I the only one here that can't stand that stupid thing? Do other people feel this way?

Why do you even care.

Pretty much anyone who tries to justify it is an idiot.

Its explicitly used to flame the enemy team.

I have rarely ever seen it used in a nice way besides worlds

there is literally no purpose to mastery besides flashing it to BM.

It tilts me to no end when you got every single Yasuo who flashes their badge after they get a kill EVERY TIME, even though like literally every Yasuo has Level 6 or 7. Or Riven. If they flash it every single time they dish out any sort of damage, and its one of these two, I will report them for unsportsmanlike conduct right off the bat. I think the worst part is Yasuo/Riven mains never talk in all chat except for the occasional "Mad cuz bad?" or "rekt" or "gg ez" like theyre too good to talk to you.

However if you have it on a champ that isn't mained by a ton of people, and you made a genuine outplay like you 2v1'd or you escaped with 30 HP then yeah thats okay (I myself main Fiora/Twitch/Kindred so I'm barely one to talk haha). Thats the intended purpose, to show you're good with the champ and just as a little tease. But if you spam it over and over just to say "hey ya pleb I one-trick this strong-meta champ and I will continually crush you" then thats not okay.

These champs seem especially prone to spamming their Mastery (because they one-trick champs that one shot you easily and the power has gone to their heads):

It's a mastery icon. Why wouldn't people flash it when they do good? It's a measure of personal pride, showing that you have put time and effort, and won quite a few games with, a certain champion. I can see why you get mad at spammers, but the thing has a pretty long load time, and like a 3 or 4 second cool down before it can be used again. If you're mad a people who flash it when they kill you, kill them, spam dance on their corpse, and move on.

but you dont care about a literal /taunt? Wut?

You can downvote this thread all you want, but I'm asking Riot employees what they feel about the icon. Does it add anything positive to the game? Because 95% of the time I see it to taunt other players.

I only hate it when it is used in a normal game mode. For example today i played with a Fizz player, who was trying out the champ for maybe 5th time or something similar. He was vs an Yasuo main with mastery 7 and many many games played. The said Yasuo got fed easily from the inexperienced Fizz and spammed his stupid M7 every time he got a kill later in the game. Before they destroyed nexus, he started standing in front our fountain, doing dance/taunt/M7. I know it's only a game BUT i reported him immediately for negative attitude and unsportsmanlike attitude, because it is NOT okay doing that when you was with your main vs someone who tried new champ in a NORMAL game. If it was a ranked game and you won that hard, then sure go ahead, spam your toxic icons, you deserved it. This attitude is extremely common in many players and yes , I believe it makes the game even more toxic. I want an option to toggle it off. We have option to hide all chat and mute people. I want to 'mute' all those toxic icon spams and laughs. I don't want to stop people from doing it if they find it fun, but I myself want to hide it for my personal screen. Thank you !

The fact that you are annoyed by an emote that literally doesnt even relay actual skill level on champion is pathetic. Get over it.... IT means nothing so why are you soooo worked up about it? You sound like you just got out of a game where you were getting rekt and someone spammed that at you and it just tilted you into oblivion because you actual feel like it means something about their skill level. Get over it? Like who fucking cares about a stupid emote. Singed literally laughs every time he flips you because its funny and taunty. This is a competitive game where taunting shit like that happens... if you cant handle it then go play a kiddy game like Maplestory or something.

I flash M7 when I did something totally stupid/died in a dumb way to distract people/make fun of myself because you'd expect me to be better. I think you just happened to meet nothing but assholes, because I've met lots of people who flash their mastery without it being bm.

I don't know about you, but I often also see it when someone does something stupid and gets themselves killed as sort of a self-deprecating joke. Couldn't you make essentially the same argument about taunts though? Or dance spam? A lot of emotes are used to taunt the other team, and frankly I'm ok with that.
