Once gankplank puts down the barrel then it's pretty much a race who gets it first. I quite literally used his barrels as a way to get stacks with nasus due to my Q having a quicker animation than his. It's stupid how useless this ability is in an actual fight where your enemies can just tap it once to remove it. I really feel like gankplank should have an advantage when it comes to popping the barrel, currently he doesn't.

Agreed, the enemy should still be able to counter them but this way gangplank always has the advantage

the entire point of the minigame is find the proper timing to explode the barrels before your opponet takes them out. the payoff for gangplank is an aoe parrley ith 60% armor pen.
yes, the q animation is delayed. thats why you fire the q right the moment the second stack is about to decay, so it explodes the barrel right on time. its not going to take that much practise to get used to.
plus, he was not using the barrel chains properly. gp can throw down a barrel where its difficult to reach for you and then throw one on top of you while hitting the one at his feet. the second barrel will be close to impossible for you to take out before it detonates.
and finally, nasus, veigar and sion can absuse other champions with minions the same way. they can stack their abilities on yorick ghosts, heimer turrets, zyra plants etc.
