Is inting while drunk excusable?

Cosmochris··7 votes·1,336 views

Heard about Meteos incident and honestly although i don't really care about what he does, I've heard that because he was drunk that gave him an excuse to int. That part does seem off to me so if I get drunk and feed will I get it off for free too?

When you say "inting while drunk", you mean "intentionally feeding, independent of alcohol, while also drinking alcohol".

This is not the same thing as "drinking alcohol and then playing poorly because of the influence of alcohol".

The first one is still inting, regardless of alcohol consumption. The second one is not reportable. The TOS doesn't say anything about playing under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. It's perfectly legitimate, and flaming someone for it will get YOU banned for flaming.

I didn't watch Meteos. I don't know if he was doing the first or the second. If he's doing the first, he should suffer a competitive punishment (since he's a pro, fine him/bench him for a couple weeks instead of banning him, that's how Riot punishes pros). If he's doing the second, the only thing he can be punished for is if the Twitch/YTG terms of service tell streamers that they can't be drunk on stream, in which case Twitch/YTG is responsible for punishing him and Riot has nothing to do with it.

Thats not what I am asking though. I am asking if it is ok if you int WHILE drunk. Im not asking 2 questions separately I am asking 1. So for example, lets say I play 5 games and go 1/27 every game. Of course, I am going to get reported but if I tell them I am just drunk, do you think anyone would just say "Oh ok I guess its fine since you couldnt help it". Will my feeding be excusable? You are responsible for your own actions but if you blame the responsibility on some liquid that made you feel funny, that just makes you even more irresponsible.

If that was the case, then people would use that excuse for literally everything. "Oh hey, I only called my entire team a bunch of n-words and threatened to rape/kill their families and bury them in shallow graves because I was under the influence of something, don't ban me now!". For me, unless someone has a gun to your head and threatens to kill you if you don't do as they say then you're responsible for your actions. If you int while under the influence of something, then you're ultimately responsible as you alone chose to impair your rationale/judgement.

Yes I agree with you but that is exactly what had happened with Meteos, which is why I find it very hypocritical.

Yeah, if you look at the grander scope of things though then you'll kinda see a pattern. Basically, rito will never really "punish" players unless they massively harm their brand (organizations being entirely different as they seem to have a different stance on them, ie: what happened with TIP/Renegades/all the other teams that got sanctioned/banned in 2016). If rito goes after a player and gives them a punishment, nine times out of 10 it is usually a "career killer" of sorts, as unless the player is the best in their role (on the level of guys like bjerg/faker) then teams will essentially be taking a huge risk signing them to their teams. While I personally don't agree with it and wish they'd take a much larger stance on it (especially if they want to establish themselves as an "e-SPORT" and not "video game" ), you really have to ask yourself this: with C9 having contractz as their new jg and pretty much every NA team having a quality one, will meteos be anything more than a streamer from now on? In a way, he's already sorta punished.

You are never allowed to int, including while drunk.

Inting and playing poorly are different things. Many people call the latter inting for some reason. Being drunk is likely to result in poor play, which is not an offense. If you decide to int while drunk, then you can be punished for inting.

If you attempt to int, but do that poorly and end up 1v5ing while drunk and getting a pentakill, then you've found the magic BAC for league.

I'm similarly unaware of the details of the incident, but from the sounds of things since he didn't get in trouble, then it's likely the latter case.

And riot's always been fairly spirit of the rules rather than letter of the rules with things too. If it's an isolated incident and all his past behavior indicates it's unlikely to happen again, then banning him wouldn't really accomplish much, and they might be inclined to let it slide and consider it the second case if it was unproveably the former case.

2 questions to ask

1: is inting excusable? 2:is being drunk excusable?

if the answer to either of these is no, then the answer to the main question is no.

Cosmochris1 votes

I'll ask the most obvious and overused question then, how come meteos was not punished?

reaperteaser1 votes

whos meteos?

Cosmochris1 votes

Idk if you joking but he's a professional league player famous for being toxic a couple of times but is immune to any sort of punishment because he knows people from riot. Just recently on New Years he was drinking and inting on his stream pretty hard.

i dont watch alot of pro play, only the mid season invitational and the championship tourney

there's no excuse to be drunk, either you drank or you didn't. INTENTIONAL feeding is not allowed, unintentionally feeding is allowed, but try not to do that.

Ralanr2 votes

Does he have a history? If not, then it's a first offense.

Bronze Bonanza1 votes

It's not inting

Inting is when there is intent to feed the enemy team

What he did is play while impaired and then repeatedly fed kills over and over off horrible decisions

So the real question is "how many deaths are too many for a non-intentional feeder"?

Cosmochris1 votes

Thats what I'm asking though. So if I am drunk and play league and end up going 1/27 for 5 games in a row then I'm ok right? No one should punish me for it cause I too was "impaired and then repeatedly fed kills over and over off horrible decisions".

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

Except whether there is intent or not is what determines it.

If you go 1/27 with the intention of dying over and over again to bring your team down, of course you get punished. If you go 1/27 because you were drunk and played poorly despite trying, then no.

Cosmochris1 votes

True but 1/27 is clearly inting. If you look at how Meteos went 1/27 it is dead obvious he was inting but it was excused because he said he was too drunk. So in the future I can technically feed with the intention of feeding and state that I am too drunk so I can't play properly and not get punished, is what you are saying.

Meteos made the stupid decision to play while drunk. He was not playing close to his full capacity and skill. Drinking alcohol inhibits decision-making. Let's make a case where I am super tilted and decided to play. I do not play nearly as well as I normally do, but queue up anyway. Being tilted inhibits decision-making.

I made this analogy so more of you can relate to this situation. You can use this analogy to argue for or against Meteos' actions. It's a neutral example, and I do not feel strongly for either side, as I do not have enough context on this situation.

Cosmochris1 votes

Yeah you are right but what I am getting from this example is in this case, alchohol didnt affect Meteos play-style but his decision to int for fun. I am being bias cause this kind of behavior is extremely hypocritical but yeah just my opinion.

If you see all his deaths, he has no intention of running or saving himself, bun runs it down.

well dying 1 death per minute I guess its not really intentional :/ if he died 1 death per 59 sec then maybe.

No. It should never be for any reason.

Being drunk doesn't get you off the hook at any point when you do something dumb, why here?
