Yasuo and his ult safety

Emo Twink··89 votes·22,087 views

Look, I know Yasuo isn't broken or anything, he's just frustrating go against. A fuckton of dashes in lane, damage when he easily gets close etc but i just wanted to talk quickly about the amount of safety in his kit.

For a risky, high skill cap champ, he has a shield to save him that refreshes when he ults, a windwall that blocks all damage through it (which honestly, needs to be swapped with Braum's shield or something), dashes to keep dodging shit in minions. Hella wave clear as well, but just. the one frustrating thing I went against is the fact that his ult automatically places him out of turret range, so he can easily tower dive and not be punished for it.

What happened via Twitter

Look, I'd kill for his windwall to just be like the second part of braum's, that alone would make me so happy, but I just wanted to talk shit about how his ult moves him to be safe while tower diving (since i felt frustrated from it). No-one else has that protection in the game, and just needs looking at.

This has been mentioned many MANY times before. Unfortunately, no rioter responds to it. They outright ignore it. Which sucks. Oh well at the very least this kind of threads prompt yasuo fanboys to defend him. Cant wait to see whats their current defending reasoning behind this bug. [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

Edit: Things are going well. Their reasoning (and explaining) still sucks ass. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

its not a bug and he doesnt have to be on top of u while ulting..for example when u ult with an ult like galio if it hits 5 players..u can use ult all the 5 at the same time and they dont have to be all in one location

ACTIVE: Yasuo blinks to the Sight icon visible Airborne icon airborne enemy champion nearest to the cursor, instantly generating 100 Way of the Wanderer Flow stacks but resetting Steel Tempest Steel Tempest.

Upon arrival, he Stun icon suspends all nearby Airborne icon airborne enemies for 1 second, dealing physical damage thereafter.

PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 200 / 300 / 400 (+ 150% bonus AD) For the next 15 seconds, Yasuo's Critical strike icon critical strikes gain 50% bonus armor penetration

Hmm i dont see anywhere about him placing him out of the turret.

u can use ult all the 5 at the same time and they dont have to be all in one location

If thats true, then we have another gamebreaking bug.

Yasuo's ultimate has always attempted to place him outside of turret range whenever he Ults someone, you can go into a practice tool and see for yourself, riot did try and remove i once like 10 patches ago but it never shipped and was never talked about again.

This is from the LoL Wikia

"Last Breath will place Yasuo behind his main target.

If however he blinks to an enemy close to an enemy turret, Last Breath will attempt positioning him outside the turret range "

Nyarlathοtep6 votes

I know it has always been like this. But it shouldnt. Period. There is no reason whatsoever this to be a thing. And i know thats you can see it within the ability details. What i wanted to say is that the description says nothing about the turret placement. Which btw sounds important as fk.

The steam life3 votes

It does tho because he is the only full squishy champion who has to cc himself in melee range in order to ult. Also none of his defensive tools work on towers most importantly his resetting passive. So essentially he would be taking 200+ damage just to ult while hes full squishy and doesnt have much hp to spare.

Nyarlathοtep

Now thats what i call stupid! Yasuo defenders never stop surprising me! I will tell you a little secret oke? ahem if you dont want to be squishy build some resistances. Period.

Now moving on, what kind of asshat logic is this? So just because he is melee and supposedly "squishy" he has to avoid the turret range like this? Are you fking kidding me? Cool i didnt know he has to bypass logic just because he is squishy (by logic i mean, you aggro under turret? You are to expect to take damage from that said turret, there are (and should) no exceptions). Malz might ulti under turret. Im not seeing him being positioned outside of turret (ofc when he is in its range). Irelia might towerdive, im not seeing her q position her outside of turret range.

Also none of his defensive tools work on towers most importantly his resetting passive. So essentially he would be taking 200+ damage just to ult while hes full squishy and doesnt have much hp to spare.

Oh gee my favourite champ cant towerdive without expecting to take some damage. Omg what am i going to do.

Are you fking serious now? When you towerdive you are going to aggro the turret. OFC you are going to take damage. You want to be more beefy? Buy hp. Why should yasuo be special when it comes down to turrets? I will tell you. He isnt. And he will never be.

The steam life2 votes

Starting off an arguement with an ad hominem approach just makes you seem like an asshole not superior just to let you know

So back to the point, u good bud? I really dont understand how you think you're gonna fit in any real tankiness in his build. The most he will get is, at max, one and a half items worth of tank stats. Thats like telling an adc to build deadmans its stupid because if they build those stats they wont be able to do their jobs. just like yasuo.

supposedly "squishy"... there are (and should) no exceptions

He is squishy idk why you put quotes.

Also you say there are no exceptions but yasuo is one, its an intentional part of his kit.

Malz might ulti under turret. Im not seeing him being positioned outside of turret (ofc when he is in its range). Irelia might towerdive, im not seeing her q position her outside of turret range.

But irelia isnt ccing herself and again malz is ranged. Even then imagine if malz had to pay 200 health everytime he ulted someone standing under a turret its ridiculous. You also are acting like no matter what he does he gets placed outside which isnt true its often yes but there are many situations where he's placed under tower.

But he does take turret damage just not when he cc's himself. When he turret dives he still has to tank like 2-3 shots he just doesnt have to tank a fourth. Also there are a variety of champs that have special interactions with turrets. Janna shield, Panth passive. There arent many but they exist. again look to my point with the fact that he cant spare the damage if you say "just build hp." Mages sad about getting one shot just build hp. To much damage early game go the resolve tree for extra health every game. Do you see the problem with that logic? And when you see he isnt special and never will be he is and has been for a very long time.

Nyarlathοtep

You have misunderstood something here, I am an asshole. Especially when it comes down to cancerous champion kits.

So back to the point, u good bud? I really dont understand how you think you're gonna fit in any real tankiness in his build. Thats like telling an adc to build deadmans its stupid because if they build those stats they wont be able to do their jobs. just like yasuo

You want to build glass cannon on a melee champion? Fine no problem your choice. You want to be able to get lower damage ( or be able to evade turret shots like this) ? Im afraid you cant have both.

He is squishy idk why you put quotes.

Because compared to other squishies, he is beefy. He is also slippery which makes him seem beefy and sometimes act as one (despite the fact that he just evades stuff).

But irelia isnt ccing herself and again malz is ranged.

My point is that once both of them aggro under turret, they arent magically blinked outside of the turret range.

Even then imagine if malz had to pay 200 health everytime he ulted someone standing under a turret its ridiculous

Dunno that actually seems pretty reasonable. Or how about that, if you dont want to pay 200 to towerdive dont towerdive. Shocking ikr?

You also are acting like no matter what he does he gets placed outside which isnt true its often yes but there are many situations where he's placed under tower.

I dont really care whether the chances of happening are 1% or 10%. All i see is a bug that can lose you a game. Besides we all know that RNG is unhealthy.

But he does take turret damage just not when he cc's himself.

And wtf is he so that he can get this treatment? Is he jesus or anything? No he is not. Other champs that self cc will take turret damage. Why is he different?

Also there are a variety of champs that have special interactions with turrets. Janna shield, Panth passive

Which both of them state their capabilities. I would love to also add that panth at the very fucking list has not the mobility nor the utility of yasuo which means that panth's interaction is justified compared to yasuo's.

again look to my point with the fact that he cant spare the damage if you say "just build hp."

Which we do since almost every god damn ap item also gives hp. And its not the same. Yasuo can build hp items that also give armour. Mages (unless you are a battle mage) have only zhonyas as a viable choice for resistances.

To much damage early game go the resolve tree for extra health every game

Which i always do if im facing an oppressive champ that can constantly all in.

And when you see he isnt special and never will be he is and has been for a very long time.

That doesnt mean its oke. Im pretty sure many players lost matches because of this hidden power.

Your arguments are clearly biased and in no way will reasoning reach you so im just gonna stop right here. Have fun knowing its gonna stay.

Whether he is full squishy or not that isnt really valid as that is up to player option. Yasou should always have been a bruiser type character But because of the great saftey in his kit Passive Sheild Q Knock up W projectile block E mobility and R areial stun Along with the great scaling of his passive he has never had to play safely

The steam life1 votes

He was designed to be full damage he always was. He's actually become more of a bruiser recently. And no its not really up to player option because that isnt the optimal way to play the character meaning you are more likely to lose if you build that way.

LordGeovanni1 votes

I am not saying he wasnt designed to be squishy or that he would have won more if he was built bruiser but that The only way they were gonna make double crit chance work and still be fair was by making him a bruiser and not giving him all those fail safe's to defend himself E W and Passive sheilds. Im not saying that he cant have any of them but With how all of those work with their current strength he should only have one of those. Also I think that riot with much poor judgement throws too much armor pen around when armor is innately balanced to offer less and less the more you stack and you cant stack as much armor gold for gold as you can raw ad and attack speed in the first place there is just no option to unless you go for stacking as 6 item 3110 verus something like 6 item 3033

The steam life1 votes

But he isnt op tho so he doesnt have to lose them.

LordGeovanni1 votes

agree to disagree. which in i also think that him having 4 things to save himself while suppsoedly being squishy and having high damage is innately toxic design

Zerenza7 votes

Well, that's not the same thing...this was taken from the LoL wikia.

"Last Breath will place Yasuo behind his main target.

If however he blinks to an enemy close to an enemy turret, Last Breath will attempt positioning him outside the turret range "

Yasuo's ultimate doesn't need to be Aimed, it's targeted, similar to Vi's. What if Vi ulted you under your turret and her dash stopped at the turret's range but you still got knocked up? That's how yasuo's ultimate works.

SoryInAdvance4 votes

That's not a bug. That is programmed specifically to do it that way since everywhere else he goes to the other player's location.

Nyarlathοtep

...... It IS a bug since the description states that he blinks to the target. But when this bug occurs he doesnt blink to the target. He blinks somewhere close to him.

SoryInAdvance2 votes

Okay, I'm in my 3rd year of school as computer science major. I'm no professional yet, but I know how software works and programs don't just do what they want. There is a block of code that specifically looks to see if his ulting would put him into tower range and if he is within a certain distance from any point on the circumference of the circle that is tower range, he will ult from 1 unit further back than the tower range *so that he doesn't take 2 tower shots during the long animation.

*(probably the thought process, but that is entirely speculation as to the reasoning in my mind)

Nyarlathοtep

I may have absolutely no idea about programming and that sort of stuff. But even I am able to understand when something is a bug and when its not. And this is. No matter how you look at it. The game states that he will closely blink to an airborne target. Now the distance that the OP shows is NOT close. I dont care if he is going to take 2 tower shots, its part of his kit to stay rooted during his ulti animation. Other dont get this treatment, why should YASUO one of the most slippery champs in the whole game get this feature?

SoryInAdvance2 votes

Okay, since you refuse to understand how code can't just do what it pleases, how about you look at his wiki that specifically says:

"Last Breath will place Yasuo behind his main target. If however he blinks to an enemy close to an enemy turret, Last Breath will attempt positioning him outside the turret range (does not apply to Nexus Obelisk)."

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Yasuo (go to his ultimate ability and hit "Show" on ability details in the bottom right of the ultimate's box)

Nyarlathοtep

For the last fucking time, since you refuse to understand basic logic, the show abilities details tab shows every little detail of an ability. Im calling it a bug because it shouldnt do it since its supposed to blink close to the target.

SoryInAdvance1 votes

IT'S NOT A BUG IF IT IS HOW THE ABILITY IS INTENDED TO WORK. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW YOU THINK IT SHOULD WORK.

...A bug is purely an issue with the league code that causes something to work in a way it should not be, or an error occurs. You have no clue what you're talking about.

Nyarlathοtep

The game states that HE WILL BLINK CLOSE TO AN AIRBORNE TARGET. HOW IN THE FUCKING HELL DOES THE DISTANCE IN THE OP IS CLOSE?

Here let me help understand. The game states the place X but sometimes he wont go to X. He will sometimes go to place Y. Now YEAH in actuality its not a bug since riot coded it that way BUT again use BASIC logic. They have stated that he will BLINK to an airborne target. There is nothing mentioning about the current turret interaction. So there shouldnt be this stupid interaction. You know what lets just call it an intended bug. This will simple solve this stupid conversation.

SoryInAdvance1 votes

In Riot's own documented ability logs, they explain how the interaction works. It doesn't matter what you want it to be... They cannot fit every nuance of every ability in the tooltip. That would be paragraphs.

Nyarlathοtep

Idc how it works. I want to see it work as it should, aka blink close to the target. And yea lol sure bud they cant just type "If however he blinks to an enemy close to an enemy turret, Last Breath will attempt positioning him outside the turret range (does not apply to Nexus Obelisk)". Too difficult. Im not asking them to put every little detail. I want every crucial info. And this is gamebreaking. Imagine if it didnt mention that it resets his q stacks after ulti.

SoryInAdvance1 votes

It is working as it should... It clearly says how it works. I'm done. Obviously can't cram common sense into a head this thick.

TheCodeisCupCake1 votes

I feel like this should be toxic. Because i play Yasuo you look at me like I'm a half breed or what? Anyone ignoring this douchebag.

Yasuo's lets you choose where you want to blink to, it will generally blink you to an area near your cursor, so i don't think its a bug. If you want the whole 'choose where you blink' thing to change then fair enough but i doubt its listed as a bug. If u wanna see bugs then you can check Mordekaiser out :D

Nyarlathοtep

You are referring to my 1st comment arent you? In which case, not half breed or anything insulting of that sort. I was mostly referring to stupid reasons behind this function. And no , you dont choose where you will blink. You blink to an airborne target that is within your ulti range, and close to your cursor. HOWEVER, his ulti will (and always should) place Yasuo behind his main target. Period. It counts as a bug just because a) it contradicts how it works ( all other times he blinks on his targets, why suddenly sometimes within turret range not?) and b) it is just too important to not be included in his description.

You bet your ass i know about morde's bugs. But as far as i remember they dont affect his target (they are mostly selfharming i mean). But yasuo is the subject of the post, not morde.

Quoting the league wiki here, and I know it's been said in the Dev blog where they were talking about mini-reworking Yasuo: "If however he blinks to an enemy close to an enemy turret, Last Breath will attempt positioning him outside the turret range."

I totally agree on his Ult, the save towerdives it provides is just not needed and pretty frustraiting to face. I also wpuld love some changes to his Windwall. My main issue with it is that it works as a long lasting zoneing tool aswell as a instant nope move. Imo it should either have a brief build-up time so you can catch him offguard, or it should have only a sec duration so it's a brief defense vs a specific threat and not 4 sec savety zone. It would also help alot if it wouldn't spawn at his center and thus block projectiles from the side and even behind him on cast and if it was directional like Braums E. It should also like Braums E count as a unit that gets hit, so all aoe and other effects will trigger on the windwall.

I wouldn't mind some compensation buffs to his shield generation based on W rank similar to what he had on release, putting more focus on gaining survivabillity from mobillity and dieing quickly if locked down. He might be annoying, but he is not op and drastic changes to his windwall will take alot power from him.

T4underbolt7 votes

Let's start with how to fix yasuo so he won't have enough DMG to 100-0 you after going 0/7 in lane.

Daddy Tie Me Up7 votes

Simple, delete him.

MorganFreemanBot4 votes

Yasuo's lane phase is anything but safe.

Yasuo doesn't have control of his non-contextual defensive measure (his shield). It can even be procced while he's locked into his ulti animation, essentially wasting the refresh.

Yasuo's 'fuckton of dashes' depends entirely on the minion wave. If he's not near it, he's not mobile. It also makes him extremely predictable, and bad, at escaping from ganks if he pushes.

Yasuo's windwall is a static defensive ability which can be completely useless against some enemies. It also has a hefty cooldown.

Lastly, on the ulti safety; someone else covered it but I'll just refresh.

Upon release, Yasuo's ulti always placed him behind a target. This, combined with the self stun for (relatively) little actual damage, meant he couldn't dive with it unless someone was already dead. If he ulti'd under turret he'd take a couple of free tower shots, get chunked, and basically insta die. The 'safety' was implemented so that ulting someone under turret isn't an immediate death sentence.

Given Yasuo's ulti actually CC's him for a surprisingly large amount of time, while throwing him ontop of someone and therefor directly into the fray, it's honestly not a huge problem.

Silverjust13 votes

why should he not be punished for towerdiving?

Mr Mxyzptlk2 votes

You do know the ult positioning on dives doesn't happen everytime he tower dives with his ult right? Only if he hits someone with an ult on the edge of the tower shot radius. This entire post is stupid and everyone commenting here is in low elo.

Daddy Tie Me Up6 votes

Hai hai season 7 diamond 4 here desu, I can testify, that it doesnt matter where you position yourself under your tower, he will always be placed out of turret range, I main top now (fought 17 yasuos in past 50 games) and I mained mid 2 months ago. And This happened consistently every singe FUCKING TIME SO STOP FUCKING LYING.

Daddy Tie Me Up2 votes

Yeah only if there was something like a tool, like a practice tool where you can simulate such circumstances.

Yaśuo Main1 votes

He's not a "fucking liar" that is legit how the entire ultimate works, as stated before by another user in this thread.

Daddy Tie Me Up2 votes

You do realize that there is a practice tool where you can try this yourself? Like literaly everyone can see that his ult positioning isnt random, its always placing you behind the champion in the direction of dashing, unless your target is under tower. Vis ult places you behind target no matter where you are, wws ult places you in front of target no matter where your target is. If you target is under tower, you are gona get hit. If they dont need this safety, yasuo for sure doesnt need this.

Yaśuo Main1 votes

are you actually serious. he just said that his ultimate isn't always putting him outside the tower if the enemy is deep enough. are you trolling, you can TEST THIS YOURSELF in practice tool. explain to me why you keep saying "HURHUR PACTIC TOOL LOOK" when that is the same thing that would make you WRONG?

LordGeovanni1 votes

You are right it doesnt put you out of tower range if you are deep enough but deep enough is only 20% Given some characters models of the towers total range and no other 'melee range' ult has that type of bull shit on it. while nukeing ccing refreshing shield and providing armor pen.

wish it was but no, his ult always places him outside turret range so he doesn't get punished for turret diving for...some reason

Spicy Rice11 votes

Except it doesn’t always happen.

Last breath has is technically an aoe ability that increases it’s radius as you rank up the skill. Normally, it places you behind the enemy champion, but if doing so places you in tower range, and the aoe extends past tower range, it will then place you outside turret range.
