Can someone help me understand olaf. i mean hes and ealry game champ.....that you build tank on......but has no hard cc. What does he have that no other champ has.

He's a tank that gets immunity from all CC for 6 seconds which allows him to focus any mage/assassin/marksman in a team fight with absolutely no way of stopping him.

When Olaf is on the enemy team, supports that focus on CC the enemy are exchanged for supports that buff the allies. Alistar Blitzcrank Nautilus Morgana Leona Annie Sejuani Zyra become useless for that 6 seconds, which way more than enough time for Olaf to melt you, so more traditional supports like Soraka Sona Lulu Janna become a necessity.

Rengo is retarded after his rework, and he definitely stole a lot of Olaf's thunder with his spammable "mini Ragnarok".

Still, he's a pussy cat and Olaf is a friggin' viking! Plus they fill fundamentally different roles:

Rengar doesn't really have a presence during teamfights; he usually stealths and kills his target.

Olaf is a constant bearded wall that at, much like pure tanks, constantly puts pressure on the enemy team as he can Ult+Ghost and engage.

CC Immunity.

Your goal is to become very difficult to kill and just bee-line for the enemy carries, ignoring any CC they try to stop you with.

Even if you don't manage to kill someone, you've been a major distraction for their team while your allies kill their front-line.

CC immunity with his Ultimate which, in combination with , allows him to Viking all over the enemy squishies.
Surprisingly good duelist who gets more dangerous the lower his Health is.
Great sustain via built-in Lifesteal.

Sadly, he was one of the Champions greatly affected by the removal of Strength of the Ages as he has no way to proc Courage of the Colossus. It was just the bees' knees on him. Not to mention one of the few, if not the only, Keystone that had any interaction with the Jungle (which is where he is traditionally played).
