Has Riot made any comment on Zyra yet? ZYRA MOBILITY THOUGHTS

*I WILL BE CLASSIFYING ZYRA AS A SUPPORT IN THIS THREAD, AS I AM ADDRESSING HER IMPACT IN THE PRESENT META.

So if the people of the boards don't mind I kinda want to throw my voice into the Weak-Plant Choir. I think she's one of the funnest champions in the game in my opinion, and I think her kit is extremely interesting and super engaging but there are a few issues that have been thrown around in the boards that I want to add a little insight to.

Zyra is weak right now, I think everyone is in agreement on that. Her damage is balanced (IMO), and she has wonderful CC, but there are a few areas that keep her from being a meta support/mage. Riot has not given her much attention beside a BEAUTIFUL QoL change in 5.3 that gave her plants range indicators.

So here are what I think are the main issues with this champ, sorry if you've heard these before: Her Plant AI/Her Passive/Her mobility (or lack of). Ofc there are more like her squishiness and base 1.2 hp/sec, but that's minor imo. Here's a little insight, if I have anything off, let me know, i don't claim to be an expert!

  1. Her Plant AI: Honestly, there are a lot of other posters who have posted about this and they understand it much better than I do, but it seems slightly... convoluted. It could be power slammingJayce the ADC one minute, and it will suddenly switch over to a minion whilst the champ still be in the range of the plant. I don't know whether it prioritizes the closest champion, or the lowest health enemy, but I know for a fact that it doesn't prioritize champions in it's range. AAing a target with Zyra changes the priority, which is good, but it seems... to change often. This issue becomes especially annoying when her ult empowers the plants, only for the plants to be chopped down with ease with no fight. See other threads for more insight.

  2. Her passive. Once again see other threads for more insight. Basically it's just that it's a linear skinny (Only 10 units larger than Mundo's cleaver!!) skillshot that takes 2 seconds to shoot after her death. It does a fair amount of damage, but it's REALLY REALLY difficult to hit in lane. Especially if the opponent is aware of the passive and has dodging it their full priority. Simply seeing the beginning of the trajectory and moving horizontally works 90% of the time, granted they are far enough. It's blocked by item 3102 , Sivir's E (really annoyingly), and other spell-mitigating scenarios like wind wall or unbreakable.

  3. Here's something I want to add insight to that not a lot of people talk about. Her mobility. She is a member of the 325 base ms group, which isn't horrible (well i mean it's the worst), seeing as there are loads of other champs in there with her, supports included. I understand her plants are supposed to make up for it with zone control and focus priority and whatnot, but it's not enough. Forces the user to literally NEVER be out of position (which is good practice!), which is difficult when facing champs with actual mobility to circumvent that.

But that's not the issue, the problem is, is that these supports have some form of mobility usage, or MS modifier. Let's look at the MS groupings and some of the supports in there (i'm classifying the cliche supports in this list, of course any champ can be played as support. I'm listing the duh ones). Source: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Movement_speed/Table

325 group: Blitzcrank (Has his W for a large MS boost, and a Q to pull, effectively controlling the mobility of the target during the pull). Lulu (Has her Whimsy for ally/self MS boost). Sona (Has her E, granting an aura that gives herself and her allies an MS boost). Soraka (her passive). Nautilus (hook city/hook hook city) Zyra (-)

330 group Bard (shrines/stimpack W) Alistar (Has a dash to an enemy target [this one is straw-grasping, but it's a form of mobility nonetheless])

335 group here are the next group of supports with lack of mobility Annie (- [however has a pet with an base MS of 350 :0]) Braum ("Stand behind Braum!") Janna (Her passive gives her/nearby allies an 8% MS buff + her Ult used correctly can be an anti-enemymobility device) Karma ("GAYN NA KIRI VI") Leona (Her sun lance connector thing blade) Morgana (-) Thresh (hook city/hook hook city) Zilean (MASSIVE ms boost/decreaser for enemies [i actually don;t know if it still does that since NobODY PlAyS HIM!])

340 group Nami (her passive is based on MS) Taric (- but i started playing in S4 and I still havent seen one in ranked)

Analysis: Zyra/Morgana/Annie all have no MS/Mobility abilities but they all have heavy CC that makes up for it... Kinda. This applies for the case of the latter two supports, as they have a +10 MS advantage of Zyra already. They are all projected to take relatively the same MS masteries (assuming it's a ?/?/21). Granted, if Annie doesn't have her passive up, she's in the same scenario as Zyra, but Annie's Q is a guarentee'd stun, and is clearly superior (the stun length is a min of 1.25 sec, whereas Zyra needs 3 points in her E to get the same length). Morg's E mitigates CC and has her Q/Ult for CC, so I can effectively say that she can be ruled out of the anti-mobility sadness.

Ofc there are stronger and weaker types of mobility/ms boosting with every other champ but this is about Zyra, so the others can be saved for another post.

Any thought on Zyra, and how our plant queen can rise to the topsoil? I think she's balanced and strong in the right hands, but these hands have to be EXTREMELY right, a long with the rest of their team's hands.

TL;DR: hopefully intelligent QQ thread. Zyra has weird plant AI that could be intentional idk people are speculating i have a few complaints, her passive is kinda pooey and she has no mobility (pls read that part cuz it's difficult to tldr that).

Thanks for reading! -SquishyVelkoz

I think the problem -is- Zyra's identity as a potential support. She's a lot like Morgana or Lux Support, except they at least have the option to interact with their allies on some level by shielding them.

Instead she ends up like Velkoz support, a champion who is completely selfish in their kit. Clearly designed as a mid lane champion, but played support for the sheer amount of constant poke damage.

The reason why Riot can't make her plants prioritize champions over minions is simply because support Zyra would abuse this. Enemy ADCs would become completely zoned out with zero counter play while your own adc would no longer have anything to fear about plants accidentally pilfering CS.

Zyra's plants prioritizing who Zyra attacks is a fair way of addressing this. However I think having the plants be a bit beefier, or having a longer shelf life seems like a good option. Too many times have I seen a lane opponent destroy a plant in one or two attacks, or me all inning with my plants, only for the enemy to walk out, wait a few seconds, and come back in with me looking the fool.

Her lack of mobility is part of her identity. She's a plant. Plants are slow moving mammals after all.

But seriously, Velkoz and Zerath are both slow moving mages and no one complains about them.

I find fault in her passive. It's simply non-existent and there is no reason to gimp it. Why must their be a two second delay on a death-triggered one time, slow moving skill shot? Maybe if she could fire it three times in succession it might feel more meaty, but otherwise, no one's gonna get hit by it, and you died on top of that. Death should not be a pre requisite to her full kit.

If anything, I'd rather they take away her passive and give her something else like spell vamp or armor or CDR, Mana regen.... Something like that. She desperately needs something to help her stay alive, because her being dead does not positively effect her team like a Karthus or even a Sion.

Thanks for the input!

Yeah agreed. But unfortunately she is stuck in the position of support, simply because there are better mid laners who -have mobility-.

Exact same with with like you said, Velkoz and Xerath. Looking at how league has evolved from the assassin meta to the tank meta, there is simply no room for them, because they are stuck in a situation where they do damage, but if they get caught out, they are stuck.

Vel'Koz is one of the most balanced champions in the entire game. He has never been buffed or nerfed. Yet being balanced doesn't mean you are qualified to fit for play against the standard compositions that we see in ranked.

Zyra's plants, like you said, die easy. 2 AoE spells kill them, and a turret shot kills them, and in addition, they give gold to a killer. I think it is balanced that her AI prioritizes those who Zyra puts herself in danger to target, but the issue is, once they die in a matter of seconds, she's stuck with no escape, only a root that lasts for ~1 second and nothing else.

she needs a new passive
