Yet another thread about Rune changes..

..and how annoying it is that every season seems to demand some massive overhaul to the game that completely changes it. It just gets more and more extravagant. Not even in a good way, it really doesn't feel like I'll know how to play League come season 8, just because one of the most influential parts of the game is going to get completely wiped off the face of the planet. I'm not even going to talk about the issue of refunding runes, of the runepage garbage, of how it's just another mastery page but this time you pay money for more of them,

I'm going to talk about how it's too big of a change. What, people flipped out over plants in the jungle? How many times has the game started while you're in the middle of changing your masteries? Hahaha you're going to get to change your masteries AND your runepage! Like, customizing it! In 60 seconds (in normal games), with all the new options they're adding and all the strategizing you're gonna have to do! That's actually just hilarious. Ranked will be a bit more forgiving.. to the people that get earlier picks. This is too big of a change, Riot, and I know you're headstrong and want to implement this, but please for the love of god don't erase the old system, back it up and don't be afraid to re-implement it if it's a complete disaster. This is a system that's been in place and has been functional for 7 years of League now. This isn't something like removing the penny from circulation in North America, it's not some barely-used inconvenience that nobody's going to miss. It's a major thing. This is like removing credit cards.

I'm not really excited about the new season changes but eh we gotta adjust and see if it works out.

I started mid S4. Honestly I felt more disappointed by the fact that you had to manage both runes and masteries PRE GAME and then to itemize IN GAME. I meant that's cool to have pre game feature (even though this one is more than feature since you're tuning your champ to be more efficient somehow). But it's contributing to make LoL less balanceable. The fact that early game stats are heavily based on rune pages make newcowers definitely behind moreover you have to buy them before you can focus on expanding your champion pool. And afterwards you have to be prepared to buy multiples page runes (at least 3 = one for each role, or less if you want to be a supp main kappa) Simply because you can alter your rune page - which can change heavily the early game.

I prefer to see those runes changes, that will make champion stats higher and more balanceable. Getting rid of rune + mastery combo to make it one would be better for balancing. pre-season is here to make BIG changes when they want to do something that can heavily influence things (jungle changes, mastery page etc..) You have close to 3 months to learn those changes. It could feel overwhelming at the beginning but just like when you started the game. Just like any Gameplay Update. You have to update. Those changes feel for the best to me.

I could provide a bit of a counterargument to needing this rune page change..

That is, remove the costs on the runes. It's definitely an outdated thing, same with unlocking summoner spells as you level up (ESPECIALLY with the much-lower amount available. really?) They're keeping the need to buy more rune pages, so it's not like that's going, but this is making all runes free - That's the only benefit I can see to this, with the loss being everybody has to learn an entire new system that's supposed to be a mock-job of the last system, with no similarities. That you can change them in champ select is great! Why not just make the current rune system work like that? Free runes, there's no reason why they should be so expensive. Changeable in champ select (though that'd also demand an extra minute at the very least to prepare), and badabing. A much better, understandable rune system, and it's split understandably between runes and masteries.

Masteries = Class-specific Runes = Champ-specific

Combining them just makes it overwhelmingly confusing.

That's no loss. The system isn't even entirely new since it's based on the mastery page. You just have to choose to tree and the "Masteries" (aka Runes) you'd prefer. And there ARE similarities. Old masteries are coming back (not all of them but some).

That's the only benefit

From what you said afterwards there's at least another benefit.

(though that'd also demand an extra minute at the very least to prepare)

I hope they won't add time for champ select. Get your runes ready and make a few changes in CS if you want to. But that's it.

THAT. IS. SO. WRONG. You know it. You are depreciating this revamp simply because it's a real change. And you have new runes to know about - sinc ethe effect are more or less impactful just like current masteries.

Masteries = Class-specific Runes = Champ-specific

This is why he should be merged. you shouldn't have to learn to itemize + to get the best runes possible (to have a great earl) + to take whatever masteries are op.

By balancing in around In Game it will be better. Not easier but way better. Because you won't have hidden stats (lethality / magic pen runes for example) that will add cherry over the top.

I'm not excited about it because it will add power to general classes and make it feel like each champ is the same. Kind of what the new mastery made. But even worse because it will not take a lot of research to do 6 runes the same as everyone... Runes offered choices that could really reflect our playstyle.

But you didn't read everything about them, did you ? You can change them while in champ select but you can also make one for each different playstyle if you have enough rune pages. I am using 7 mastery pages atm. And i often change just one each game. If we are able to change our mastery pages with 30 choices i'm pretty sure we'll be able to do 6 choices in 30 seconds.

Read more about rune changes, you have a false idea of it i think. We will have one tab that is Runes+masteries. You will have the same number of emplacements as your actual number of rune pages but it will be more like masteries (abilities in game =/= raw stats). We will get some icons/chest/TBD... for our IP runes bought in the past but Pages will not be reimbursed. As of now, it still is too soon to know how it will really end up.

Have a good day =)

I just hope tanks and fighters get decent defensive stats without them overcompensating mages and adcs like they do every update and leave fighters and tanks out. because having superior range and mobility wasnt enough.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe their combining the mastery pages and rune pages into one right? So you technically only have to edit one thingy in the remaining time left

Håppy1 votes

That's true, that was my bad, I forgot that part. But the combination will arguably only make things more complicated overall.

Runes = Champion specific Masteries = Class specific

Now you have to choose for both in a very very limited amount of time. People with anxiety are gonna hate this.
