Infinity Edge, the Good and the Bad

A lot of people are complaining about the current item 3031 and want it reverted to the previous version. I believe that is a misguided desire. Old Infinity Edge caused a very poor power distribution in the game. Old Infinity Edge caused marksman to have insane damage against squishies just so they could kill tanks faster. This caused other squishies to get their damage increased so they could kil marksman faster than marksman could kill them or the non marksman were given more defense so that marksman wouldn't just one shot them. Marksman are not meant to one shot. So this was an overall unhealthy and poor design choice.

The current item 3031 does its job much better than the previous version. I'm not saying that I think it is in a great spot, but that it does its job much better. I think it is on the right track. item 3031 now converts some of its users critical strike damage to true damage. This interaction is more effective against higher armor targets than lower armor targets, but still useful against both. I think they should focus more on this idea. I personally don't like the critical strike changes that Riot did. I would rather see a critical strike system more like it was before the massive overhaul. I think critical chance was better back then, but Old Infinity Edge was worse.

When I say go back to the old critical strike chance I mean for all critical strike chance items.

One of the problems is that the current crit items scale too slowly. And meanwhile adcs like Lucian MissFortune Ezreal don't need to build those crit items early to be relevant. item 3095 just can't compete with a Lucian with pta and item 3153.

However not to say that crit reliant adcs can't scale, as they do and will eventually. But it's just so painfully slow right now and adcs like the ones mentioned above are much stronger champions early game than the rest. Adcs can do just fine late game (if the game even last that long), but so many champions like Karthus and Heimerdinger are just impossible for most adcs to deal with early on. They just get bullied out of lane constantly and end up scaling way too slowly. The current IE is great for tanks and i do agree with you on that, but at least the old IE gave some relevance to adcs early on. Although it surely wasn't perfect and had it's own issues of course.

Adcs are (generally speaking) meant for killing tanks and the new IE is better for helping out with that. But damage is so high right now to the point where any adc who doesnt excel early on is just useless - aka Lucian MissFortune Ezreal or mages like Karthus and Heimerdinger or even Swain. Not to mention tanks aren't even really relevant right now in the current meta.

Yes I think that your points are all relevant and true, but we can't balance IE around stuff that Riot is looking into changing. They want tanks to tank again, and when that happens a lot of the reasons crit marksman were chosen will become stronger again. So in all I think a revert to IE would just cause the game to go back to a full on tank meta when tanks get buffed back up again.

It's going to take a lot before tanks can actually be tanks gain. I feel as if high damage has just become a core part of this game. I honestly wouldn't mind a tank meta, as it really does get kind of boring getting one-shot by every single mage/assassin. But with this new Dark Harvest crap it's clear the current riot balance team doesn't know what they're doing. It's going to be a long time before the game can be played the way it should be played.

I would just revert the game back to season 5 and restart from there.

I actually think the main problems for tanks right now is that all of these new champions and reworks are given insane true damage numbers. Like Camille can do 1k true damage with her Q. That is what needs to be changed. Remove true damage from a lot of new kits.

Also no tank meta sucks we had it for over 2 seasons and I never want to see more than 2 tanks per team again.

I feel like removing too much true damage, would bring rise to a tank meta. But i see your point.

Well 1k true damage is ridiculous. They should atleast reduce true damage in kits.

There have been a lot of discussions on maybe removing conqueror from the game along with dark harvest and how it could help fix the problems with damage being so high. As currently Irelia can just auto attack down almost any champion in the game with conq proc and a fully stacked passive. But i'm a Yasuo main so i generally feel biased about any changes to conq, but i can't deny how abusive it feels at times.

Edit: i don't really feel as well that camille can really compete with champions like Irelia JaxAkali , her power levels are strong for sure but those three and several other top laners are far more problematic.

If you look at Conqueror numbers on most of its users it is completely fine. Those champions abuse it hard and are overturned. Jax and Irelia need nerfs, and not those garbage nerfs that Riot has been doing.

Actually, everything resumes to:

You want a 50% crit chance Yasuo ?

Or

You want a 40% crit chance Yasuo ?

I am still touchy about it Yasuo . But then again, who cares, there are worst things unfixed. Akali Rengar

This post is about IE and yes I understand that Yasuo builds that item religiously, bit the comment you made did not make sense with no context. Why do you think Yasuo would get so effected by this?

I meant, i dont want to buff indirectly a champion who is already "in check".

Buffing IE, to 25% crit chance again (that was the value back in the day before he arrived), would just make things worse. The really worst part is that i am not against crit items or the buff that you suggest i am against the old variables that were under control with the crit chance changes. Yasuo did not always rushed IE for example.

Another example is tryndamere, i do not have a problem with tryndamere, but i do have a problem Draven or Vayne snowball potential. Draven is a minor issure (i like to think) after the passive nerf, i do not play ADC myself in the bot lane but, most of the problems come from midlane Yasuo, Toplane Vayne, Botlane Draven, and i recall That tristana too had a special IE flavor if i am not mistaken.

Yes, i want my good old Statik Shiv Back i want my IE 25% back i want my old Yommu's Back.

Now, how can you assume we are not gonna have Yasuo or the others that i mentioned (i forgot to mention the croc too) just killing us all?

Frosted Tips1 votes

I meant the 20% crit IE.

Yes, Yasuo never rushed IE first. He would get it second or third except for when he was super overtuned and could buy Trinity and still kill everyone.

Tryndamere needs a rework and I make my opinions based off of certain champions that need reworks.

Vayne got direct nerfs to stop that cancer interactions with IE. I don't think Draven would be a ton worse than he already is, but I could be wrong.

Hope not. You know what happens when that happens.
