Please stop ignoring Garen rito :(

Alright, I've posted about Garen multiple times in the forums with no response from Riot (520k mastery, highest elo is Plat 1). Garen has a lot of bugs and sluggish castings for his abilities. His Q doesn't proc statik shiv correctly, he can't cast W while mid-Q, He should be able to recast his E in a shorter time, and Garen is still struggling in ALL elos. Hashinshin made a great video on why garen is just all around a big mess, and even though the video was made almost an entire year ago, the same rules apply to Garen. Literally almost nothing has been done to him in the past year besides his buff to his W, which is really nice. However, Garen still suffers from his lack of being able to lane and outplay his opponents. If he gets behind, he loses. If he gets ahead, he walks under tower and kills his opponent until they don't exist in the game unless it's someone who's abilities scale well regardless of how behind they are (IE. Fiora/Trynd off the top of my head). That isn't a healthy lane. Garen should both be able to outplay his lane while the enemy should be able to play around Garen. Hashinshin actually made some really good points and suggestions on what to do in this video. I keep seeing on the PBE that riot is doing a lot of 'mini-reworks'. First Rengar, then Leblanc, now Ahri. These champions really don't even need a rework, besides Leblanc since her tether has no outplay because of the ridiculous range, but all of them are good champions that both the player and the enemy can play around with. I don't know why Riot is ignoring Garen. His winrate tops off at 52% in bronze, and then just keeps dropping with each elo. I know he's supposed to be a beginner champ, but so was Ryze, so was Ashe, so was Warwick. and look at them now. Even Warwick has a higher winrate in bronze than Garen, and Warwick is now a pretty high skill cap champ. I want to main Garen, but it becomes so hard when champions like Darius, Camille, Riven, etc. can all contribute to a fight by playing around their abilities, while Garen just kinda goes 'reeeeee' while charging in hoping he can kill the villain, which, btw, is a terrible mechanic. Garen is supposed to be the rival to Darius, yet Darius is quite literally a better version of him in about 90% of scenarios.

Tl;dr

Garen sucks, he needs a mini-rework like Rengar, leblanc, and now Ahri. Idk why riot is ignoring my big boy. I know people don't like Hashinshin, but he makes really good points about Garen's state which still apply to this day.

  • q: animation speeds up with champion level, until its as fast as pre VU and allows for more snappy animation cancels midame

  • w:

a) remove the lockout from using w during the q animation

b) courage passive scaling changed from 0.25 armor/mr per stack (= 30 reached at 120 cs) to

0.3 armor/mr until 15 resist 0.2 armor/mr until 30 resist (reached at 125 cs) 0.1 armor/mr without cap

  • e:

a) possibly scaling change from flat damage + 36% AD rank 1 to 40% AD rank 5 to 1% enemy max health physical damage + 50% AD rank 1 to 54% AD rank 5. 1% max health physical damage added to garens basic attacks. villainy turns the % into true damage.

b) lockout from cancelling the spin reduced to 0.5 seconds from 1 second.

  • r: improved targeting mechanism. in addition to most kills within 5 minutes, villainy tracks highest amount of gold, highest AD, highest AP, highest dps, highest burst. kill participation and other stats and weights them against each other to filter out the largest carry threat on the enemy team more reliably.

another possibility for garens q:

decisive strike allows garen once during its activation to leap thin walls, like the walls around the river, dragon and baron pit. similar to how Riven can leap thin walls on her third q.

this would give garen more ways to approach fights from different angles and disengage them, without making him directly more mobile. thus supporting his skirmisher heavy playstile for a juggernaut a bit better.

This has been floating around the boards for a while and I love chiming in on my main ma garbear. But I am just going to copy paste my last post on the subject if you don't mind as I feel it covers my thoughts on the issue pretty well.

Another Garen main here chiming in. I am fine with Garen being simple and I think that over all his kit has a charm to it. All of his moves are fine, they just lack any substance to allow for bigger plays that other characters can do. I don't think he needs a large rework in the slightest, if anything I think some tacked on elements to his kit would go a long way to making an already fun champion viable.

What does Garen need? Well if you looks what he lacks that becomes apparent. He can't tank because he has no Crowd Control, and he can't home in on a carry well because he has no way of initiating without flash. So here are my suggestions.

**Q change: **Similar to a Rengar pounce, the Q will function normally until he enters a certain range of his target where he will do a leaping slash at the target silencing them. This allows him to function as an initiator without burning flash, and can allow him to outplay his opponents as well as opening opportunities for his opponent to bait him into unfavorable situations.

** E Change: ** Just buff the damage 33% and take off the stupid element that makes him deal more damage to a single enemy. It is a dumb mechanic to put on an AoE ability that is also his only damage source.

R Change: Functions exactly the same, however the ground around the impact site of sword becomes collapsed, pulling champions within the blast radius in towards his target as well as causing minor damage to those within. (Or perhaps pushing them away to keep with the J4/Xin theme?)

These changes allow for Garen to retain his core identity and thematics while making the viable in the current state of the game with no major rework needed.

Now keep in mind I am not saying anything close to "he needs ALL of this at once" just a simple analysis of what I find defective in his kit and how to remedy it.

They problem with buffing Garen is he doesn't really have any skill-based abilities. He's the 'noob' champion, and shouldn't be too hard or mechanically complex to play. I think Garen is doing pretty well right now, but if they rework him I wouldn't too surprised. Some parts of his kit need to be looked at, though, especially his W. He's a juggernaut, not a tank, and I feel this ability is a little too oppressive in the laning phase due to the insane damage reduction. I would like it if they put him more into the juggernaut catagory and less tanky. Maybe up his AD scalings but reduce his overall tankiness/W power?
