Should smurfing be banned?

I'm trying to get out of bronze with my really low elo account, I know a lot of people use smurf accounts to get an advantage over lower elo players making it much harder for them to go up.

Here's why I think smurf accounts should be banned:

  • The elo does not represent the player's true ability
  • reduces the chances of players to get out of bronze
  • usually they get a troll pick, i.e. adc trynd with smite pissing off their entire team, losing the focus from the game
  • if theres a smurf on the enemy team, it makes it really hard to defeat them no matter what

I know a lot of you might disagree, but it really is unfair to lower elo players.

I hope riot can do something about this, since its been bothering me for a while.

In an idealistic society... yes.

So you're preventing those with high ranks to create a second account? While I do agree it's annoying, it's not fair to prevent someone from having another account and want to rank on it.

I do fully believe that if your stuck in bronze or sliver or whatever it's because you belong there. Not because of smurfs or trolls but because of your actions and choices in the game.

Smurfs aren't the reason you can't climb. Besides, if the smurfs don't belong there they will just climb out of bronze themselves.

Bro legit. If someone smurfs and is good theyre definitely not in bronze. If anything theyll end up placed in silver after first placements. If you smurf and youre in bronze, then youre just trolling. Not smurfing.

You're only looking at the negative side of smurfing (which to be fair, the negative side of things always gets blown out of proportion). I have a smurf account (not this one, still haven't maxed it and probably won't) because me and my friends leveled from 1-30 in bots and thus learned shit about PVP. Some of us adapted to it, others needed to go through it again and we all liked playing together. Since I'd rather not have a level 10 vs level 30's, I'd make a smurf account to play with them.

If you ban people for smurfing, you'd basically force them to smurf more...

Terrible plan.

Well, smurfs don't last long, they climb extremely fast; which is somewhat a proof of matchmaking working well (they climb to the elo they belong since they're better)
