A wide range of skills in LoL can also benefit from animation cancelling, and the same animation canceling mechanics apply in DotA along with real-time stratagy games like Warcraft and Starcraft, along with pretty much every fighting game.
Animation canceling is a pretty basic part of LoL, along with the majority of competitive game on the market.

all have the ability to cancel animations, orb walking is actually a form of animation cancelling as well, Riot is not likely to remove it.
