Manaless Champions

I am only a silver but I have LONG contended that mana-less champs, provided an unfair advantage, primarily in solo lanes. Typically it is attested that there are some "trade offs" for not having to manage mana althought I personally don't agree with this.

Now we are dealing with the nerfs to mana regen and there is little to nothing to convince me that at this point being mana-less is anything but an advantage. No matter what, laning against a champion that does not have to worry about losing his ability to fight back is inherently not fun. They can shove the lane when ever they want. They can shove BACK the lane whenever you try to. Never have to worry about missing CS to towers because of being OOM and not able to stop your shove. You want to fight? They can always fight back. They want to fight? You MIGHT be able to fight back.

Please someone tell me what the DISADVANTAGE of not having mana is. And please don't tell me anything about "wasted" stats on items since they don't need mana or regen.

And please don't tell me anything about "wasted" stats on items since they don't need mana or regen.

And yet it's a valid point. Any item with mana on it is wasted on them. item 3078 item 3100 item 3025 item 3800 item 3027

Of course that is only part of it. Mana is meant to be a handicap. It is meant to gate the early game of mana champs, or in a few cases, gate the use of specific abilities on certain champs. With one or two items, mana typically becomes a non-issue, so there's little reason to think about it beyond that.

Energy champs on the other hand are forced to monitor and manage their resource all game long. If you miss an ability or spam too much, you will run out and either be zoned out of lane or die.

No cost champs have much stronger early games than any other, but due to short comings in their kits, are typically feast or famine, if they don't get some kills in lane, then they are going to struggle later on.

And then theres Riven who just needs a few lvls even if she fed lane.

Depends on the players. Riven is unforgiving when opponents make mistakes. If you don't keep playing smart against Riven, then she will destroy you.

Rumble doesn't use any mana but you have to be careful not to go into overheat at the wrong time though

I think Rumble is one of the rare examples of a mana-less champ done well.

Look at the bright side, Kat is not going to be a problem for you anymore.

don't confuse manaless with resourceless. rumble is manaless, shen is manaless, vlad is manaless, etc... but they all have meaningful resource gating.

Having no resource (e.g. Katarina) is universally an advantage. There is no reason you'd ever prefer a mana system to a null resource.

Having energy as a resource generally helps you in lane and hurts you in teamfights. It runs out faster than mana, but also regenerates faster than mana.

Having a specialty resource like rage, heat, or flow is special enough that you have to discuss the champions on a case by case basis.

In general, resource system is part of a champion's power budget. If you spend points on getting resourcelessness, you have fewer points to spend in other areas. The most common tradeoffs for resourcelessness are shorter range, longer cooldowns, or weaker CC.

There is a limit to what you can cover in the abstract. If you really want to talk about champion power level and resource systems, you need to get concrete and talk about individual kits.
