The word "gutting"

Has lost all meaning to this community as it gets thrown around for literally any and all nerfs.

Plz. Stahp.

Azir Got gutted when his W lost the range; He got nerfed with the Tower Nuke damage, and Q damage. Those were fine.

Kassadin Got gutted because his Ult is pretty much worthless in every situation now. Leblanc and Ahri can do what he did and be much safer with less danger to themselves.

Veigar Got gutted because they removed the DFG, and turned his only other option to be viable into a joke.

Janna and JarvanIV got nerfed; their abilities are still useful, but they took small tweaks to make them less of a large spike in some area.

A gutted champion is one who went from a hot pick to unviable because of nerfs. This usually happens when a champion with stark strengths and weaknesses loses their strengths.

Only should be applicable to Fizz IMO

Gutting fish is pretty common if you want to consume fish

guts are actually what you get when you order "meat" from McDonalds.

I mean come on, you can't say changes that drops a champions winrate from ~47 to below 40% are not gutting the champions.

I don't use it to describe all nerfs. More ones that extremely gimp a champion -- see Azir changes. I'd consider the change to his soldiers' range a gutting. His Q and W changes were nerfs.

Agreed. It's become one of those doomsaying buzzwords that people use to convince others of their arguments and complaints in place of logic and facts, like "#LCSBigPlay$" and (insert FotM champion/newly released champion here).

Not to say there aren't people that post well thought out arguments on the boards. It's just that the half-assed circle-jerking threads outnumber them 3-to1.

I've even seen it used for changes that weren't clear nerfs. Reducing a spell's damage, yes a nerf. Minor damage reduction plus a mana cost reduction and reduced cooldown plus more scaling, wouldn't be surprised if someone called that gutting either.

Insert explanation about how I don't do that thing that you said people do.
