Help, it feels like I'm doomed the moment Talon hits 6.

Good morning fellow players,

I am a fairly casual mid-laner who plays a lot of Ahri, Katarina and Orianna. Ever since Talon's rework, I am completely unable to lane against him, to the point that I waste my ban on him every single game I get mid. It feels like I lose all trades early game because of his bleed, and once he hits six, he just deletes me over and over again. I'm not saying Talon is broken, I'm just saying I suck at pulling my own weight against him. I can't even go even unless the player is kinda meh at Talon. Are there any other mid-laners (or perhaps Talon players) who would be so kind as to give me some tips and tricks? I'd also really like to know what the best strategy is to follow his roams without getting ambushed by a surprise wall-jumper!

Orianna should be a rather difficult lane for Talon if both players are at the same skill level. She has the defensive tools, kiting potential, and dueling power to make Talon suffer until 6. Even at 6, she is a pretty sizable threat to Talon because he needs to get close to kill her, and at that point she can just ult and nuke him.

As for Ahri, save charm for when he dashes at you. If you time it right you can cancel his Q and get a free trade.

Katarina is a bit of a difficult matchup because you deliver yourself to him. However, if you do the Q-E-W combo and get all your daggers in one place, you will most likely beat any Talon in a trade and safely E away to a minion before he procs his passive.

If the river/jungle is not warded or you have no idea where the jungle was your best bet is to just ping your bot/top laners (depending on which direction you saw him last walk to before losing vision) that talon was last seen heading to that lane and hard shove the lane into tower and get tower damage if he shows bot/top, especially if you are an immobile mid laner.

Because there is nothing stopping talon from just waiting in a bush for you to walk into so he can kill you instead even worse when he has his jungle near by.

Also i suggest rushing a seekers arm guard (and d ring if you got the extra gold first back) before building what you normally build, since ad assassins tend to rush item 3134 items they will hurt A LOT if you don't get it even when you're doing your best to not get jumped on by them.

Do not finish that into hour glass till 3rd or 4th item, unless you really need the hourglass active to help dodge jungle engage (someone like Zac trying to get his mid lane assassin fed) then in that case finish it as your second item NEVER FIRST because it's a garbage first item finish.

The big problem I see with talon is that the majority of his kit is quite predictable. Oftentimes he's forced to use his w to either waveclear or poke (rarely gets both unless you're literally hugging the wave), his q puts him directly in your face with zero "escape tools", and his ulti kinda counters itself as thanks to recent patches you can see invisible characters affected by dots. The best reccomendation I have (aside from taking mordy against blind picked ones) is to rush either a zhonyas and/or liandrys, as the former helps with the tanking aspect while the latter theoretically makes him more visible when he ultis you.

Talon has 3 noticeable spikes in his damage.

When he lands both portions of W.
When his Q crits.
When his passive pops.

this means when you cs, you want to stay just out of his W range and juke to the side. If he lands both parts, he will look to Q auto for a huge chunk of damage. Stay back.

If he Q's to initiate, as long as you juke the second part of his W he can't hit you for an absurd amount of damage.

Both of these help to avoid his passive proc and higher damage portion of W.

When he roams, you're gonna want to push and then stick to a warded side where your jungler can assist you. If you don't have wards, you cannot follow him or you stand a good chance of dying.

But dude, didnt you read the latest circle jerk here? Assassins are weak and suck, just build crit and 1 shot them level 1 from 700 range lul

Real advice: take exhaust and get zhonyas against assassins, exhaust when they go in and use zhonyass on their ult

just curious do you take any defensive runes or masteries vs talon

do you take summoner 3 or summoner 21 vs him do you rush item 3157 and get item 3047 ?

lots of good advice so far. just to reiterate:

punish his roams by hard pushing. just keep wards up on both sides so you don't get flanked/ it isn't a bait to get you killed. taking mid tower > him getting 1 kill bot or top.

Dodge his W and he can't really get his full 3 proc on you without ulting. in fact, he can't, unless he hits PART of his W on you at least. take Exhaust instead of ignite, it reduces his damage output. use your range to your ability. if he just used W and you dodged, punish him with 2-3 ranged aas.

Dodge his W, THE most important part about laning against Talon. Even if you only dodge one part, he won't get his passive off and you can heavily outtrade him. Of course it's preferable to dodge both. If you do get hit by both, try not to be in range to get Q'd on, since you'll probably lose most of your life if you do.

I don't really know how to counter his ult but again, he has a tough time killing you without landing his W if he isn't fed. Get some defensive stuff too, instead of matching his roams hard shove and roam in a different direction, since he if catches you in the river you're probably dead.

Against ANY assassin. Trust, as a support main I know this summoner works wonders against assassins.
