Playing Off Off Off Meta in ranked should be a reportable offence.

Played a game of ranked where our ADC choose to play Kindred. He fed his face off, then had the stones to call for a surrender at 15. I mean I don't care how good you are Kindred's mechanics are designed to ONLY work in the jungle role.

You realize that if no one plays off meta that the meta never changes right?

You realize that if the meta doesn't change it stagnates right?

You realize most players arent champion "mainers" and like to play varied champions against varied opposition right?

You realize that an ever changing meta keeps this majority unbored and therefore this game alive right?

It's not even that much of an off meta pick. You're just salty.

Cavesloth1 votes

Really? Link me a site that tracks Kindred ADCs winrate. You can't because not enough people play it for stats to even be tracked. So yes, it is off off off meta. Even Urgot ADC, which has .15 percent pickrate, is tracked.

Cavesloth1 votes

Honestly tell me you'd be ok with someone taking something with roughly a 1 in 3 chance of winning into a ranked game, with no previous games on that champ and I'll show you a liar.

Fiddlesticks mid, despite jungle being his meta role?

Fiddle as a mid is much more viable than kindred adc (or graves adc to cite another "off meta" example), because of kindreds mark system you want to be in the jg/roaming and her shorter base range gimps her in lane

Cavesloth1 votes

Thank you, everyone seems to ignore the fact the Kindreds mechanics FORCE him into the jungle. This isn't some versatile character that can be played any role like some champs. I'd actually be fine with Graves adc as long as they know how to play Graves.

Fiddlesticks mid, 14.8% role rate 53.3% winrate which is better than his meta role. Check and mate sir, because facts.

Did you seriously just take me seriously

did you not see the /s

Ah my apologies sir, I didn't know what /s meant.

Complaining about something being played which they don't considered "allowed" should be a reportable offense.

Cavesloth1 votes

So you'd be totally cool with someone playing something playing a character with a 1 in 3 chance of winning in your ranked game when they have no experience with that character. Tell me that and I'll show you a liar.

Tulare1 votes

I would not be okay with somebody playing a character with which they have no experience, irrespective of that champion's win rate.

So long as the player is competent with the champion, I am okay with them playing it, irrespective of that champion's win rate.

Cavesloth2 votes

I wouldn't be happy about it if they were playing someone with a low winrate, but if they were good at said champion, I wouldn't consider it reportable. So I guess we kinda agree.

deadlychuck1 votes

Confirmed you'd report LCS players for picking ryze

Cavesloth1 votes

No because A your ignoring my point that they guy had no games as kindred (and LCS player playing ryze would have experience playing the champ), adc or otherwise, and b, ryze has a 56% winrate in challenger. Your argument is invalid.

deadlychuck1 votes

I'd be totally cool with a someone playing something playing a character with a 1 in 3 chance of winning in my ranked game when they have no experience on that character.

Man, I wish all claims were this stupid

Cavesloth1 votes

Funny how you glossed over that last bit. "when they have no experience with that character" Take anything out of context and you can make it look dumb.

So are you saying bard only belongs in the jungle too because of the chimes?

Kindred ADC can work very well if played properly. You can get stacks off the enemy duo. Roam with Jg for invades, etc...

Winters Dawn3 votes

Lol kindred is a marksmen. She can adc sure its not the ideal role but she can. Salt

Lothàrs Edge3 votes

No, it really shouldn't, unless the person has a history and pattern of what looks to be intentional feeding.

It's like saying you should be reported for being Bronze 2.

420 grams2 votes

That's not an off off off meta

Cavesloth2 votes

Really? Link me a stat tracking site that shows Kindred is played ADC. I'd LOVE to see his winrate ADC, it'd be hilarious.

Hallbuster3 votes

35.4%....

Hallbuster2 votes

You guys won't admit it but he's right. Kindred has the 2nd lowest win rate as an AD carry, only beating support by a 5 percent margin. To make matters even worse, he had absolutely no experience with AD Kindred before. Say what you want, but you guys would be fuming as well if he did this to your ranked games.

Cavesloth2 votes

Thank you. Anyone in my position would have been pissed had it been them, but I get downvoted to hell and back for saying it, no wonder people say these forums are cancer.

Lothàrs Edge1 votes

Pissed yes, downvoted because you suggested it was banworthy.

Being garbage or doing garbage (unless intentional and repeated) is not reportable. This is why you're bronze 2 and not banned.

Like... you keep buying iceborn gauntlet on Leona. I can't tell you how dumb that is because it's up to you to decide and agree on why it's pretty dumb. In anyone else's position above bronze, they would have been pissed about how much of a "troll" you are... except you're not a troll. You're just a person who's not playing optimally.

Cavesloth1 votes

Oh I know its not the best, I build it because I don't need the optimal armor to survive in bronze for the most part that another item would provide, I need the extra slow so my bronze ADCs can kill shit. That's my job, setting up kills. I want to help my team succeed. Kindred adc just wanted a quick loss or a carry because he got autobalanced. He didn't care about helping his team succeed.

Lothàrs Edge1 votes

Lo and behold... still bronze.

And still not a buy that many people would get. People would look at your build and say "omg my support is trolling" and look at your rank as well.

Basically you don't have much credibility because you don't even have average game sense (silver/gold is typically where most players sit at), so for you to complain and bicker about other people just doesn't make any sense at this point. Focus on yourself. Worry about your own deaths and kills.

Cavesloth1 votes

Typical forum elitist. You opinions don't matter because your not "x" rank. Nobody has commented on my build, its bronze. Most people don't know their OWN builds that well let alone have time to look at what other people are building. And again you still ignore the base point that Kindreds mechanics are just not built around the adc role, nor do they work well there which is the base point, and the fact that it was basically a "oh I got autobalanced adc, I'll play someone I don't know well in a role they aren't intended, not tell my teammates or ask for help in any way, and hope my bronze teammates carry me". At this point you are just arguing because you are a contrarian, you ignore what the argument is about, just because you like arguing.

Lothàrs Edge1 votes

Yes, forum elitist. Says the guy who says "off-meta should be a reportable offense". There's a reason why these threads tend to be created by bronze/silver players, because they often create their own hell hole by perpetuating a not optimal situation into a flame war.

I do enjoy arguing, I cannot lie. But it takes one to know one, and at least I can spot a hypocrite a mile away.

Cavesloth1 votes

There you go assuming. You assume because I made a post about this I flamed the guy like a typical bronze and that's why we lost? Wrong, I said nothing to him ingame to make him tilt or otherwise, I said nothing. I would have like to have said something to help the team out, but things went downhill so fast I doubt any positive words I'd said could have made much of a difference sadly. I pride myself on trying to remain positive and rally the team when I can. Unfortunately I cannot lie, after the game I couldn't resist the parting shot of course, as I was quite mad, and I'm not proud of that, but I'm brave enough to admit when I'm wrong.

But again, you still refuse to look at the base point, Kindred adc DOES NOT WORK. And I said "off off off meta", there's a difference, again you gloss over details and see what you want to see. Off meta is something not commonly seen, but still can work, I am NOT opposed to that at all. One of my friends is an Urgot main. One of my other friends played Fiddle support to plat. I AM opposed to someone playing something so mechanically far out in left field that barring the heavens opening and the stars and planets aligning and genuine miracle occurring... it cannot work. You have better chance of taking apart a clock, putting the parts in bag, shaking and it reassembling said clock. But I'm done arguing with you. People like you see what you are incapable of empathy, and can't see things from another point of view, and you are clearly arguing to argue.

Lothàrs Edge1 votes

Ah okay. Kindred ADC does not work. Neither does buying sightstone. Neither does not buying sighstone. Neither does iceborn gauntlet on leona.

The problem with objective "meta" is that what you consider to be "proper" might be ridiculous to someone else.

Cavesloth1 votes

Well I was pretty sure 35 percent winrate is ridiculous to most people. But in these forums apparently not, so lesson learned. Don't post here expecting rational adults who like facts.

Chønklord2 votes

Winrates don't determine what people can or cannot play. Much less what is or isn't "meta".

Only what is strong vs weak in the current "meta" / season.

How do you think those champs got to those winrate percentages? By all of them being tested through actual gameplay.

Hallbuster2 votes

Why doesn't the next genius in high Elo test Sona jungle, to "see if it works." They already know the meta. even players in bronze have the common sense to play the right champions for each role.

Chønklord2 votes

There is no "right champion" for each role. There are strong picks and there are weak picks, as defined mostly by the way the game and champs are balanced season to season -- but there is no set "optimal champion for X role" for each and every game.

It's called variety.

Cavesloth1 votes

Um what? Winrates are almost the ONLY determining factor in what is meta. If somethings winrate drops significantly people stop playing it, and its not meta anymore thats just basic human behavior. That's what META means, whats popular atm because its likely to get you a win. Kindred adc with a 35% winrate isn't likely to get u a win. With his mechanics you would either A. need a support who can hardcarry you to mid or late. Or B. a support that can solo hold lane while you go steal those camps.

Chønklord2 votes

You have it backwards; or at least missing crucial elements.

  1. Riot balances(or introduces new) game mechanics / champions
  2. Youtube personalities / Pro players / high elo players test new things out in solo queue etc
  3. New meta champions / play styles / builds trickle down to general player base
  4. Winrates are adjusted according to what becomes "op" or strong, and drop for champions that are weak or do poorly in the new meta

TLDR things become popular because of champion release / balance / rework hype, after passing through the various elo communities until equilibrium has been reached with winrates.

Cavesloth1 votes

Well yes all those things have an influence on the meta, but the bottom line is still the winrate. No matter what happens with any of those other things, if something has a low winrate overall, it will fall out of meta for the most part. Take Ezreal for example, he had a super high play rate a few patches back, but at a 47% winrate people slow stopped playing him when he couldn't reliably win anymore, so he began slowly falling off. Of course there are exceptions to almost every rule, the Ryze that was pointed out is good one. Dumpster fire in low elo, hot shit in pros.

Chønklord2 votes

You're mixing up the reaction with the action.

Winrates change based on how many players play a champion and how well (or poorly) they do. At all elo.

Therefore, play rate determines the winrate of any given champ, which in turn determines what is strong or weak in any given patch/season, which in turn determines what is in "meta" or not.

It goes like this:

  • Riot patches/balance changes >
  • LCS/YouTuber/streamer/Korea level play testing viability >
  • champs/items/builds gain or lose popularity based on the above level of viability and popularity >
  • websites update with new builds, op champs, etc from the upper echelons of players >
  • general playerbase (d4 and below) pickup the popular, slowly ditch the un-pop >
  • statistic websites like na.op.gg update with relevant data such as new winrates, ban rates, itemization, etc >
  • meta is slowly cemented for the patch/season >
  • balance changes restart the cycle.
Cavesloth1 votes

Ya know I was coming up with a counter-argument, but in doing so I realized you are right. I was going to argue that once an "optimal" build is known, their winrate should be roughly the same whether they have a high playrate or low playrate because the amount of good vs bad players should be about the same in a large sample or a small sample (the exception being very very small sample of course), but then it hit me that if it has low playrate but a decent winrate, its still off meta. So I have to concede you are correct. I was thinking about it backwards. I'm not an NT so I tend to do that.

But given all that, can you said that playing Kindred ADC in a ranked game, with no games trying it in normals in his history is acceptable behavior?

Scary Door1 votes

How does someone know what's "meta" and what isn't?

Is there a memo?

I played Viktor the other day in MID and someone said, "He's not even META"

How the fuck do you know? I mean... I played a mid laner in mid, how is that bad?

Cavesloth2 votes

You look it up on websites like http://champion.gg/statistics/#?sortBy=general.overallPosition&order=ascend&roleSort= http://www.metasrc.com/all/5v5/current/tierlist?ranks=all http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/

Viktors winrate is a bit low 47%, but whether hes not meta is kinda debatable. A good Viktor given his mechanics could still carry and be useful.

Tulare1 votes

Are you assigning homework? I'm not saying you can't study the meta yourself but not everybody takes this GAME so seriously. (Yes, even ranked is a game.)

Cavesloth1 votes

Yes I take it seriously, because i want to climb to gold for the rewards, so I go back to playing normals, where the game IS fun. Not to mention people not "taking it seriously" is why bronze elo hell exists in the first place.
