Why is saying KYS not a bannable offence? WTF RIOT.

OK i've been playing ARURF this weekend and in 4 out of 8 games, i've been told to KYS (2 of them in games we were winning), reported all of them, and none of those have given a feedback report saying this player was even chat banned. Why the hell is this not an instant ban? This is NOT acceptable behavior, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. This should result in an instant ban.... PERIOD. Oh and thanks for turning URF into a total clown fiesta with this ARAM style crap. Granted I'm still having fun, but CLEARLY a lot of people aren't.

just means your report was not their final report. Does not mean they were not punished

I know how it works. I've reported plenty of people, i just saying for something this severe it shouldn't take multiple reports. This should NEVER be acceptable.

You are over dramatic...why wouldn't you just mute them and even if you don't mute them why would you care what people are saying to you. You just can't let them get to you. Also just mute someone the second they make you scrunch your nose or even if they make your mood change from happy to slightly angry.

Oh I did mute them of course, that's not the issue. The issue is this should never be acceptable behavior, this should a one and your done kinda deal. How on earth would telling someone TO KILL THEMSELVES ever be acceptable behavior. It should be treated on par with racial or homophobic slurs or other such completely unacceptable behavior.

This question gets asked weekly, if not multiple times a week. The answer is that it's not OK and never has been. Make sure you report the player and the system will handle it.

For reference, if someone says something like that on the Boards, we're directed to remove it with a 7 day suspension on the first offense. If they do it again after that, they're permanently suspended from the Boards. Riot takes this seriously.

I guess its hard to believe in the system when I go into a game mode and literally half the games I play I'm being told to KYS. How can I have faith that action is being taken in such a system, when out of 4 players that were clearly toxic as hell, I didn't get a feedback report? Clearly such toxicity is completely rampant. I'll grant you 8 games is a small sample, but it was just jarring how I've hardly even seen such behavior in 2-3 years of playing league, and then suddenly I'm playing a game-mode and I'm seeing it all the time.

Unless, against incredible odds, you're running into the same people in each game then you don't know the system isn't working. Just because you're not getting a pop-up after a match telling you someone was banned doesn't mean they're not being punished or aren't flagged for review and ultimately punished. The system isn't 100% transparent, for some very good reasons, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.

All you have to do is scan this section and see all the posts by people upset they were banned from the game and you'll see the system is working for all kinds of removals, including posting KYS which appears here in chat logs often.

Ultimately, when you run into things like this in-game, while it can suck to deal with during the game, it makes it super easy to know you're filing a valid report after the game is over. Report the player(s) that said it, then move on to the next game and focus on that one. Yes, when it happens in multiple games, it sucks. That's when I tend to play a different mode or a different game altogether. There's nothing wrong with that.

Perhaps instead of just sending a log that a player has been punished to the last person to report him, they need to send that to EVERY player that reported that person. I mean would that be so hard? I think that would fix many players issues believing that the system doesn't work. Doesn't fix my complaint that KYS should be an immediate ban, but it'd be a helluva boost to the communities faith in the system.

While this would be great, I would be for it. I think Riot stated the only reason they dont want this is because they dont want to bombard people with notifications. Which is somewhat understandable, but if that was the case just make an option to turn it off if you dont like it!

I may not get an instant feedback, but i see them playing games a day or two later on op.gg. The best part is that I even sent in a ticket to support about it and they literally had 2 people look at the logs and conclude that kill yourself isn't bannable.

I always wonder since it comes up pretty often, but who are these guys playing with to get that level of harassment that often? I've been playing LoL since beta and I can't ever remember being told to kill myself, ever. Just boggles my mind that it sounds way more prominent than I've ever seen.

I don't get it often personally, however in my limited experience with the RGMs, I find it more prevalent there. Not sure why exactly, maybe because people with short tempers are in a game mode they're not accustomed to and it sets them off. Regardless, I just ignore them, report them after the match, and move on. If it happens too often, I just stop playing that game mode.

So in a game where you literally KILL each other, you cannot ask anybody to kill themselves. A game where if certain champions kill themselves, they are actually rewarded by proccing a unique passive (Sion, Kog'maw, Karthus). I'm sorry if I find it a little troubling that people are so genuinely upset by this. I can understand being a little miffed, but a one and done ban is absurd. I did not even realize this was a punishable offense until recently because of how many times I have been told to kill myself by others in this game, but I've never complained about it. Maybe it should be a guaranteed chat ban for a week or something to get the message across, but I think a lot of people are blowing this way out of proportion, and this is coming from somebody who has struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts who also has friends and family that have struggled with the same problems.

I don't think they need to inform every single person who reported someone. However, a compromise could be if they kept the last 5-10 reports a person makes on file and sent notifications to them. I think it would increase the visibility of the report system working without overloading players or the delivery system.

It is, but only sometimes. There is no real consistency that is probably the result of Riot's trademark spaghetti code.
