If Kog still needs buffs after the %HP damage increase

Why not give him back his full W range again?

Waaaaaaaaay back in Season 1/2 Kog had 750 attack range when his W was active. He was pretty decent in the midst of the MetaGolem era, so Riot gave him a bevy of nerfs, including knocking his W range down from 750 to 710. Rather than upping Kog's damage (which is, quite frankly, a dangerous thing to do) he could get his real distinctive back. Namely, the longest ranged Marksmen apart from Twitch using his Ult.

Riot needs to remove the buff for Kog on the PBE. item 3153 buffs have brought AD Kog'Maw back up to 50% win-rate. Any further buffs would push him into being too strong.

They didn't.

Champgg has a really tiny sample size. Often times when ~0.5% play rate champs get their stats updated as of a new patch they can appear anomalously high (or low) simply due to statistical noise from the low sample size. LoG uses a much larger sample size than champgg and as you can see Kog is sitting right around 47%, slightly higher than last patch, which as slightly higher than the patch before. Various indirect buffs are slowly stacking up.

Personally, I suspect the %HP nudge will probably do the trick, though I still don't think that's the best way to buff Marksmen Kog since it just makes him more stat-checky.

Thank you for bringing up ChampGG, though. A chance to talk about the dangers of small sample size is always welcome.

Very likely kog'maw will remain fairly weak even after the buff.

Due to how stat-checky Kog is, very small numerical improvements can have a HUGE impact on his performance. Five or six more damage early game might not seem like a whole bunch, but that can easily make the difference Kog needs to come out on top of a trade.

We've seen this in the past (attack speed moving to W, ect) so I wouldn't discount how much of a buff 1% more MaxHP damage makes.
