Typical Master Yi Post

Master Yi should get a rework that gets rid of the one dimensional R E Q right click and add some skill to the kit. He shreds tanks, instant bursts any squishy champion and if they manage to live through his Q he just autos them then moves on to the next (while still at full health because his autos are so fast that his lifesteal capabilities are through the roof) At full build hes getting two autos a second with a double auto every 3rd auto (This double auto does 50% more damage and can crit) If he kills said enemy he gets another free auto on a nearby champ. And thats without his ult being taken into consideration that gives him a bonus 80% attack speed, 45% bonus movement speed and reduces all of his cooldowns by 70% (Feel free to add a potential of 40% CDR from items aswell) With his E giving him 50 + 25% bonus TRUE DAMAGE. With his full combo he will destroy any champion in the game. Now i know there is always those people who down vote just because someone mentions "broken champion" Then states how easy it is to beat said champion. One of those people will say "just cc him easy game easy life". Try to land cc on a master yi who can move at (i forget how fast) about 700-800 movement speed, By the time you see him you will be in range of his Q, jump to you and 3 nearby friendly's and its over. There is also the chance that he might have built a Guardian Angel so even if you cc him and kill him, he comes back and his Q is probably back off cool down. And i'm not making this post just because i have been destroyed by master yi players who think they are good (even though i have. A lot.) and everyone of them tells me to play him so i did.

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2476198609/210235292?tab=overview (I got a penta this game) http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2475175550/210235292?tab=overview (i got a penta this game) http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2475152021/210235292?tab=overview (this game was a 22 minute surrender)

If i really wanted to i feel confident that i could get the same scores very easy again.

What i'm getting at is his entire kit is bloated with so much extra crap that he is quite literally a brain dead champion that requires no real skill. See a squishy champ, just press R E and Q if you need a better gap closer or see lets say a morgana Q fly at you and that morgana will be dead. See a ADC and support? Repeat the same process as last time but burst the ADC first then move on to the support. This process can be repeated for any variation of champions you see. If you are full build and fed as long as you engage on the ADC (if you have 40% cdr your Q will be at a 5.6 cooldown, if you ulted your Q will be at a 3.9 sec cooldown) then move on to the next priority target. See that spooky garen? Dont worry you will out damage him and as a result sustain more than he can hurt you for. This is by far the most easy champion to get fed, snowball, and carry with at a cost of just 450 IP. You can even 1 v 5 with minimal difficulty as long as they are all spaced. Pick one off and move to the next, your lifesteal and 4 sec Q will keep you at full health. And i forgot to mention if your in a 1v1 and for some reason at low health just press W and you will out heal most autos and wait for your Q to come off cool down.

So i know how the league community is so just telling everyone now i will ignore any stupid comments thrown my way and it will essentially just be a waste time. I would love to hear how other people play around master yi and even manage to beat him.

Q dodge and W block are all skills that require much anticipation to utilise in high skill environment. While certainly not as mechanically intensive, he isn't without.

His kit is also full of drawbacks and clear counters with very little advantages beyond a monster scaling. So it's not like he's actually a trouble when there are clearly far more questionable designs out there.

Yi also needs more "game skill" than most champs in the game in a competently competitive environment, because he's just mere a walking kill-condition, there is very little he could do to control the game himself and there is very little he could do to respond to fk-ups or emergencies.

Yi takes skill, just not your typical "hurr hurr I press buttons fast I'm more skill".

You getting penta in BLIND PICK means nothing, precisely because it's blind pick, where people couldn't care less and the mode itself is also designed so that you don't care (no counterpicking, no bans, no pressure to lose anything, and no actual incentive to win besides stroking your ego).

As a master yi you control the game by running down the carry or other priority targets. They can not retaliate against you alone, and they are often dead before anyone else can help them. I have seen this in many many games with and against him. Granted i can not say anything for higher elo gameplay, but just saying he takes skill because he isnt a smash all the buttons champ does not mean hes not broken in other ways. After his ability rotation he hits Q when its up and right clicks. As for screw ups or emergencies its the same thing, kill the carry and move on to the next. Now the entire enemy team could focus you, shame for them when you have a GA and are forced to let your team do whatever they want to them. The only times your gonna die is failing a gank, getting to cocky, or getting ambushed by face checking a bush. Or you happened to have died killing said carry. At which point your team just needs to be not brain dead. And if all else fails just split push.

Not only that master yi Q is a free hit on four champions that makes you untargetable. So they have to worry about your team or wait for you to leave Q

No, it's entirely random with some control that doesn't let him go off and attack something or someone off-screen which is what used to happen pre-rework, but atm it is still very much uncontrollable, the only definite target is your initial target, while every other attack afterwards can be either a nearby minion, a jungle monster or an enemy champion. Q is therefore almost never used as a team attack, only ever used as a traditional lock-on gapcloser, a very situational escape, or at most, a poke during lane.

The Q's animation also comes with a drawback, due to its extended animation, where if used on an enemy team, you're literally giving them the time to know, format and wait for you to come off animation so they can end you in an instant. The only exception is when the Yi is very fed who kills people just by Q'ing, or that Yi's entire team is so fed and ahead it doesn't matter if Yi comes off animation in the middle of the team or not, which in these cases, Yi is allowed to win the game he's already won in.

Q is also not "free" because it has a very long CD (18 to 14 seconds from lvl 1 to 5 iirc) that can only be shortened by building CDR or chasing after people to AA them which in the latter it's usually a suicide without some set-up in place. Yi is also intentionally over-budgeted in Q so that the rest of his kit are left somewhat underwhelming with the only exception of his ulti, so that he's over-reliant on using the Q, and limiting its use via high CD and a couple other things (such as having 0 CC in the entire kit, having his only engage also his own disengage etc etc) greatly forcing Yi to use his Q critically unless he's already very fed.

Either way, as far as I know, there is no issue with his Q.

40% CDR 45% CDR with the mastery, and 70% cool down on abilities with his ult. His Q does 165 damage +100% of his AD. It can crit with 60% of his AD x 1 + crit damage. It's not hard to work his Q what so ever. Yes it will only hit the main target with a chance of hitting nearby champions at random. You literally wait for them to get close or minion wave to be gone. Or let your team dive then you go in and not get punished for the Q. I have no issues ever using his Q because i know i will kill someone, multiple people, and wont be punished for it. And i hardly play him. EDIT: You also don't need Q to kill someone. So long as you don't run head first into cc you can still kill someone using just R and E. Sometimes you don't even need to use R if that person doesnt have cc.

All of the top Yi builds don't utilize CDR.

Because it isn't as good as building damage, AS and defence. Yi kinda need those first to even be relevant, he doesn't have much luxury to choose what he could build throughout the game when it starts him with literally nothing in his kit, and so CDR is rendered an after-thought that is usually never gone back to.

Again, I'm talking about somewhat competent and competitive environment, in casual matches like norms, just about anything could work good if you try.

EDIT: never mind the crossed out part, I mixed the 2 guys up and thought he was talking to me.

You have to kill someone to gain the 70% CDR from ulti, which begs the question how he is gonna get it in the first place considering he's a late game champ with not-so-great base stats, and the active only gives you bonus MS and AS and no guaranteed damage. Compare that to Darius's true damage nuke that refreshes on kill, Yi's ulti by itself somewhat pales by comparison.

And yeah, I have no idea:

  1. Why you're always talking about Yi in late-game, he doesn't start the game in later levels
  2. Why you are writing it as if that Q does monster damage, because it doesn't for a carry, it's "cool nice" level but definitely not the level which require detailing as if it's doing so much. Have you seen Yasuo's Q with his no CD E spamming, which together is similar to Yi's Q at literally no cost?

Again, pressing Q on someone takes no skill, sure we get it. But I've explained how his Q is both unreliable and has many drawbacks, it's not "i know i will kill someone, multiple people, and wont be punished for it", no, it just doesn't happen in any reasonably skilled competitive environment. Nor does killing people with merely R and E happen in reasonably realistically.

You can NOT talk about balance while assuming the champ, ESPECIALLY a late-game champ, is both in their strongest phase, full item, and on a completely winning team whose members are all very fed, and somehow blaming that this 1 champ is too strong, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Yi is an "over-commit" champion. He wins big when he's winning, and he will be completely useless when losing. Just because in normal games people doesn't care to play against him or sometimes doesn't know how to, it doesn't mean he's risk-less. He is far more risker than a great majority of the entire roster because he can not get out of a situation if things turn south after his engage, and the fact his kit is just incredibly easy to be exploited against. **He is very 1 dimensional and inflexible, and full of downsides and counterplay options, the only thing he gets out of this all ordeal is insane scaling factor, and you're using that as a reason why he's problematic while ignoring all of the other aspects entire? **

No.

TheLastDino1 votes

though you are in a sense right, if you read exactly what his Q does, you can see that it prioritizes champions, meaning, press Q in the middle of the entire enemy team and a minion wave teleported to the raptors camp by their Ryze and your Q will still hit their entire team

As a master yi you control the game by running down the carry or other priority targets.

Which unlike real assassins or bruisers who do that as their job and mostly having the correct tools to do so, he is a late game carry who has neither damage or survivability by default and is required to get fed throughout the match to reach his frontal power and actually start killing, which ironically killing is the only thing he can actually do.

They can not retaliate against you alone, and they are often dead before anyone else can help them. I have seen this in many many games with and against him. Granted i can not say anything for higher elo gameplay, but just saying he takes skill because he isnt a smash all the buttons champ does not mean hes not broken in other ways. At which point your team just needs to be not brain dead. And if all else fails just split push.

You're giving too much credit to Yi's assault. Yi is usually retaliated easily by any hard-CC such as root, stun or silence etc. And not just "retaliating", he's usually "killed" after being cast a strong CC due to his very glassy nature and the fact his own kit also runs against himself in certain areas like Q locking him in an extended animation so that people could gather to gangbang him, his overall very long CD on spells, or that his heal roots himself, requires him to be near-dead to actually receive heal and having a constant CD of 35 seconds. And even more so, fear (the CC) is his also his greatest fear, as that would completely invalidate his ulti by forcing him to run in the opposite direction in full formula-1 speed. What I'm saying is that Yi has plenty of counterplay options.

You can also not assume and talk about Yi, or any champ especially late-game ones, while assuming they start the game in full gear. 1. because it makes no sense to talk about it that way, and 2. late-game carries are supposed to be god once they're full gear, so it's far more reasonable to talk about how fair they are when they're acquiring their gear as opposed to how strong they are when they're in their full power.

I just grabbed the last few games that i have played with him. I'm sure i could go back and grab some games where i have played him in draft. Or i could go play some new games with him in draft. Still wont change that hes OP and easy to play

Try playing him in Ranked and climb with him. I'm not saying you have to main him to Challenger or something, but sooner or later you will know playing him isn't all rainbow and sunshine and free food is delivered to your doorstep. He has his hardships too.

You need to work on segmenting your posts :/ Tis quite hard to read through massive blocks of writing.

And regarding his kit.. not disagreeing with you that he is op, I sit on the fence when it comes to Yi. But saying he requires no skill is nonsense, its just a different type of skill. Its not skill shot based, its about knowing when to go in, predicting where the cc is coming from, when to use your W etc. And all of the same map awareness / best jungle clear etc. still applies... The only time he becomes brainless is when you are someone he can comfortably kill and you are completely out of position.

Op and no skill are two different things.

Râmmus Bot1 votes

This is the only site i ever post things to sorry. Anyways i personally believe he is both OP and requires no skill (which could be said about any champion) but i will say he is not a hard champion to play by any means.

TheLastDino1 votes

most of what said about his skills is bullshit. let me explain

there are 2 types of skill, Player and Champion skill. aiming abilities, map awareness, knowing how to deal with situations, knowing the enemy champions and how to keep them from affecting you the most, and going in all belongs in the Player skill category, as it's general knowledge and skill the player develops.

the only relevant comparison you made was a bad one and it was about when to use your W. and again, this is more about player skill. would you say it's hard to use a Garen's W when you know you're gonna be taking alot of damage, waiting for a cooldown or blocking as much damage from a Rek'Sai R, Evelynn R, Lux R, Karthus R, etc. yes it's not something alot of champions have, but the general use of that ability is being able to predict when you're gonna take alot of damage and preventing it. the same could be said about things such as Zhonyas, Ekko R, etc for when you just want to save yourself. the difference for Zhonyas and Ekko R is that they require a bit more skill than Yi, especially as you can't interrupt the zhonyas when you want to, and that you most likely also want to aim Ekko's R as a weapon

he's playing him in silver, which is a more skill tier on it's own, but his rank has no relevance in this conversation. i hate people like you who try to defend the honor of yourself by saying your main requiers skill in ways they don't need, and also bringing in rank. even if he's playing against bronze players, he would still be bronze, and so would his team.

saying things like Yi is a difficult champion because he needs [enter skills which all champions requier] won't change anything because that's a skill a player needs, not a certain main. Yes he needs kills early to get ahead, but Yi is an extremely if not one of the best, snowball champions in the entire game. and he works with AS, AD, MS, Crit, Lethality, and even some brucer shit, like black cleaver. saying he isn't good early aswell is bs, as he has one of the best clears and has a good gap closer, (which even allows him to avoid abilities with no skill), and upon reaching level 6 he gets lots of MS and AS, which combined with his E's true damage shoudl guarantee a kill on any champion unless the Yi (like normal) is completely braindead.

i played a game with a Yi yesterday, which i remember for being a complete rat's ass. he was toxic like almost every Yi main i've met. he had no skill whatsoever, and yet he kept going on about how he was gold, (i checked this after and he had gotten to gold from maining Yi). when i TP ganked bot lane as a fed Volibear, expecting the help of him he left me no questions asked even though a skillfull playeer would recognise this situation and jump at it, as we could've easily killled their team, with no harm coming to him. and that game was proof that that Yi main had no map awareness or overall team-compatability, and thinking back to every Yi i've ever played with, not one other had general skills either.

what i'm saying isn't that Yi mains are stupid or require no skill, it's that they usually don't have skill and that Yi as a champion personally doesn't require skill to play, as late game a Q followed up by an automatic auto attack (at max attack speed the animation will start as soon as he comes out and will make it impossible to evade the damage even if you flash).

in summary, Players that play Yi might get overall skills all champions need, but they do not need any special skill for the champion himself

Dude this post is 10 months old, 10 months dead. Don't necro it.

That said, I think you misunderstood casualdude. Yi is easily countered at higher levels of play. It's not about shaming lower levels of play, it is just about how people at higher levels of play have game knowledge they can use to beat Yi.

I agree that Yi is a stat-stick and isn't very skill expressive. And even that he needs work. But you're generalizing Yi players in a way that is downright prejudiced and nasty.

The JigSAW1 votes

Yi is one of the broken champions, period. I know there will always be tons of defenders of Yi and you know why? They play him and main him usually so they want to make it sound like he's some kind of complex champion. He's far from it.

The way to fix him is as simple as take away his bonus AD and true damage on E, which NO ASSASSIN should have in their kit, and change Wuju Style to something like Talon's 3 stack system where on three stacks your next auto triggers a large amount of damage. I don't understand how any assassin should be immune to any and all slows so that's the next area to work on, maybe turn the ult in to an AOE splash damage like most assassins have but something unique.
