Why am I always so nervous?
I mean, when I'm learning a new champion, I know I'm going to suck. And I know I'm not going to have everything down pat. I just can't calm my frayed nerves when I load into a game. Damn anxiety.
How do I stop sucking?

You can always play against bots untill you feel safe of your abilities. After that, you can try norms. If anything, you can always drink something or eat something to distract yourself.
A nice chocolate should help.
By muting everybody; this way you don't have to worry about proving anything to anybody because they're toxic little fucks living in mommies basement and you can simply work on improving yourself at your own pace.
What I did is I played a few Co-Op vs AI games or bot game as the champion. I'd get some kills to the point where i can easily kill any of the enemy bots and then i'd screw around for the rest of the game. Its a good way to get a feel for a champion and you can test their limits a bit. If you feel the jitters come back while in game go farm up a side lane or a take a few camps. The extra gold should make you feel a little better. Now that i have all the champions i just go on the PBE when a rework or new champion gets added and I can get some extra time to mess around with them. Also remember that bad games happen regardless of whether it's your first time playing the champion or your 1000th time.
Yeah, I know the old adage "You just gotta suck until you don't suck anymore"
But I'm always scared of not playing well when I'm learning a newish role.
lol but dont worry about it...
i have over 2500 wins playing league.. you know how many games i lost? feed? played bad? along the way to those 2500 wins?
lol its alot
Mhm. I think my biggest problem is that I get down on myself when I play poorly, or not as skilled as my lane opponent. I wonder how to stop doing that.
get out of the mentality that your game play reflects you as a person
its a video game
stop puting your self worth into how you play this game
well you can try the champ in custom games and some co op games 1st to get a feel for them... and then just go play and not worry about it...
its video game meant for fun and enjoyment... just try your best. thats all you can do
You are anxious because you don't know what will happen, you are just praying for a miracle. (i.e. that they are bad)
Stop thinking the game is about luck. Learn every nuance of your champion (and theirs). Play your champions in low pressure games (vs bots if necessary) to practice and commit the skills to muscle memory. You should know exactly what to expect in a lane matchup. You should know all the enemy skills, so how could they surprise you?
At any given moment, either you or the enemy has the advantage. When they have the advantage, you have to play passive and safe or they will kill you. When you have the advantage, you should be looking for an opportunity to press your advantage without getting baited into a gank or outplay.
It helps to main a single champion over and over, so you get excellent at them, and learn how they handle many other champions. After you are confident with that champion, move on to another one.
Interesting that you would comment, as you have an old name of mine. I've never thought of going back to bot games after playing PvP, but you have a very good point there. It's what I did when I played Diana. I just teambuildered my way through a hundred games, for better or worse.
