What is Broken Can be Reforged (How to fix 5.4)

So 5.4 brought with it 3 big issues in the community: Kassadin, Veigar, and the Jungle. Here are my thoughts on what could be done to fix these champions and make them more viable, and also looking at how to fix the jungle.

  1. Kassadin: Kassadin's range on his ult was too long. I'll go ahead and say it. But now it's just a joke. Riot basically reduced it by almost 1/2. This seemed like a knee-jerk reaction more than anything. Kassadin's R should bring him 575 units instead of 450. 575 is out of auto attack range of almost all carries, which would bring him to safety, but not so far out of range that another champ could not use their mobility to catch up to him. Right now, he ults away and any adc can still stay where they are and keep autoing. An increase to 575 would make them have to chase after him or use flash/mobility skill to catch him.

  2. Veigar: So much for compensation for DFG removal, huh? Veigar's main problem is the E delay honestly. Any mobile assassin or bursty AP can destroy him before he does anything now. I understand what they desire of Veigar, so my ideas would accomplish that, but make him more viable and effective at his role. Reduce W and E delays by .25. This would make W have a 1 second delay and E have a .5 delay. With these changes, you get your chamber of horrors feel inside of the Event Horizon, but you can still react to some assassins. And with the W reduction, you can actually land a W on somebody who has decided to try their shot inside of the Event Horizon instead of you having to hope you get lucky and some idiot stands on the indicator.

Jungle: Much more difficult problem. My personal thoughts would be to revert the Warrior nerf and buff the other items. There's a reason people aren't choosing the others and it's not because Warrior is overbearing. It's just that the others are so pathetic that they aren't worth choosing. Give me a reason to pick other junglers. Don't try to make the jungle harder by making it more expensive to survive. The only thing that happens is you lower the jungle pool by making it more difficult for everyone.

I find it interesting that for the past two seasons I've heard Riot say they want more Jungle Diversity, but anytime diversity is possible, they nerf it into the ground. Feral Flare provided so many more junglers the opportunity to succeed, but it was overnerfed into oblivion. Sure it was overbearing at first, but they gutted the item instead of balancing it. Riot keeps saying they want tank junglers to have a place, but until you give them the tools to be successful, they won't be. How about you ask some pro junglers why they don't use them and work with that instead of taking what they say (because I'm sure you've asked them) and trying to just make them tankier or make them survive more or longer. Maybe it'd be better if you gave those junglers a Maokai treatment and took them out of the jungle and let them live up top. I don't have the best answer for the jungle because Riot doesn't even know what they want with the jungle, or at least they don't know how to achieve it.

Those are my thoughts. Feedback?

Totally agreed on Kassadin, though the mana cost nerf was definitely needed (that becomes a solid 260 difference at full scale riftwalk)

Veigar's E was nerfed to have a delay so he's no longer a brainless click and delete champ, you have to actually have some mechanical skill and know how to play some brain games to force your opponent where you want them.

Jungle, agreed - buff the other items, or at least buff devourer to scale up like Feral Flare used to. Jungle damage is too high to be picking most AP champs in it now (for example, Diana takes significantly more damage in the jungle in S5 compared to S4) and the ones you generally do pick are AP tanks like Amumu who simply take Juggernaut anyways, so you're kind of eliminating 2/4 of the items already.

No sustain or high early game armor forces you to pick a different jungler or go back earlier, neither of which is ideal for having fun while playing, as it further limits the amount of effective junglers.
