What if we allowed Ranked accounts to buy level 30 accounts that are linked to their main Ranked acc

FatedTitan··90 votes·7,200 views

So this is my thought. If we allow players to buy level 30 accounts once they are ranked, then many bot services will stop because people can just buy the level 30 smurf to do their streams or try their own Unranked to Challenger. It could cost $15 and link up to the main account it was bought under. Why should it be linked? Because accounts linked cannot reach Challenger, but can only hit Master. Why should this happen? Because Challenger is supposed to be for the top 200 players, not Turtle and Pobelter and their 10 accounts. It robs other players of the opportunity to be Challenger who are top 200 players on the server, but Pobelter's 9th account is blocking their entry. Right now, Challenger is like Top 170 or less because people have so many smurfs. This would solve another problem.

So we solve the bot problem and a legit top 200 in Challenger problem. Win-win.

That would actually allow riot to ban their main accounts instead of one at a time as well, getting rid of "more" toxic players

Drunk Rummate11 votes

Excellent idea. And it also gives Riot grounds to ban accounts that are purchased from 3rd parties.

Onegarion1 votes

They can do that anyway tho

Kurogano10 votes

I'd agree to this. The question then becomes.... are skins, champions, and runes separate on each account; or are these things shared between the accounts?

I honestly think I'd care more about those things being shared in this link then said link giving me a free 30.

Thryale7 votes

well, if the skins and stuff carries over, what's to stop yer rank and mmr from carrying over? And if that's the case, whats the point of even having an alt account at that point?

I love this idea, however if skins and runes didn't carry over I don't think I would buy one. But this is coming from a guys who has invested a couple hundred in 1 accountXD

You get an empty account from 3rd party anyway. You don't buy a new account if you don't have some strong reasons which probably compensate for the skins and stuff.

Its a nice idea, but there is a major problem you should think of first.

What is to prevent a high level player from buying a smurf level account for 15 dollars, then selling it to someone else who wants to skip leveling an account entirely, for say, 30 dollars?

This also is a problem, especially if the smurfed account gets to keep the skins on the main account.

Its a nice idea if everyone was honest. Unfortunately, there are always a few dishonest people who think they are "clever" and ruin the nice things for the rest of us clever people who decide honesty is more important.

From my understanding of how the op said it, that if this idea was to go through then when you buy an account from Riot, it will link to your main account (Possibly keeping all your skins/runes etc)

However, if the person then tried to turn it around and sell it for more, that account that they are selling will still be linked to their own main account, meaning if that bought account got banned, then so does the seller's main account. So basically, if some one tried to resell an account made by Riot then they will have a huge risk of losing their own main account.

Onegarion1 votes

The problem I have here tho is why would you want to give someone else access to your account? Since everything is linked they could theoretically mess up things for you if the link is deep enough.

Well, if both accounts are ever on at the same time, there would be a problem. The system would probably flag them.

FatedTitan4 votes

Not necessarily. Someone could let their brother play on their alt account I suppose.

JustABot1 votes

You're not allowed to share accounts under any circumstances, I believe that the system could work if it does punish the main and alt account if both are on at the sametime maybe under different IP?

Yoshuo1 votes

Make it like World of Warcraft so that if someone tries to log-in to the Alternate account it kicks the main account offline (If they're online right then) so only one account can be online at any given time.

Here's the issue as I see it right now:

  1. People want/need smurfs (if you are master+ elo cuz queue times) for xyz reasons

  2. 3rd party services are abusing this fact and ruining games because of it (botting)

  3. 3rd parties are making $$$ (not Riot) for violating ToS

If we implement the OP's idea:

  1. People have a viable and legit way to obtain smurfs that doesn't take a metric shit-ton of game hours before getting to the "real content" (lvl 30)

  2. Pre-lvl 30 games are less likely to be ruined by proficient players lvling their smurf or bots

  3. Riot makes money instead of 3rd parties who violate their ToS

  4. Riot can monitor the person using all accounts as a whole and can ban/punish all accounts for abuse more easily.

I honestly don't see a problem here. It's like prohibition: People want alcohol, they are going to buy alcohol whether the government likes it or not. If the government chooses to legalize and monitor it, they can make money from regulation and better ensure safe consumption. I don't know what Riot is waiting for with the Pussyfooting around the smurf issue

I agree on pretty much everything accept maybe that point. For some reason I feel those who lost their account would still benefit those botters. It really can't hurt tought.

coppinslinger3 votes

I understand your point. But realistically, there will always be abuse cases. If Riot started selling/regulating smurf accounts though, I feel like botters would be significantly reduced however.

That's at least something.

mh, but what's in for the players with more than one account? They basically pay 15 dollars/pounds/euros just to skip the leveling part? Or is the advantage the ability to pay 15 dollars to skip the leveling part?

I'm pretty sure a lot of people would pay 15 dollars to level a smurf to 30. CLG doublelift said that he would buy an account from Riot in a heartbeat.

Speaking as a guy who is leveling a smurf right now. I had to buy exp and IP boosters just to make it not kill my sanity because it is so slow. If Riot actually implemented this, I would GLADLY pay for a lvl30 account.

Yup, same here. I have two other accounts and if you don't want it to take forever to reach 30 then boosts help quite a bit. Otherwise it is just too time consuming. I'd definitely pay 15$ to purchase a level 30 account.

Its hands down worth it and especially if it came with the IP you would get on average of lvling a 30 account I have an account I've been trying to level for over a year and its at 12 because i get so dam annoyed. I would really love multiple ranked accounts tho to try different main roles or something.

SmokingPuffin2 votes

How did you solve the Turtle problem? He's not going to buy any of these new linked accounts.

FatedTitan3 votes

It gives him smurfs he can level up to Master, but lets Challenger stay the top 200 players. I think Turtle can deal with having his main account in Challenger and the rest in Master.

Turtle already has tons of smurfs, and many of them are already in challenger.

Turtle simply won't use your new option, will keep his existing smurfs, and will continue to represent a big chunk of challenger. You want that to change, you need to propose something more.

FatedTitan3 votes

Make this the only way to do smurfs. If caught smurfing another way, banned along with main account. Problem solved.

MrBuffington2 votes

The only legitimate reason I see to start a smurf is for Challenger players to have shorter queue times (I've seen some hour long queue times on some high elo streams) at like, master/diamond tier, so this sounds like a pretty great solution imo :). This will also help keep WildTurtle from hogging like the top five spots in Challenger with his smurfs, lol.

It might also be beneficial for these accounts to buy runes with money as well?

Meep Man2 votes

I agree, but Im not sure if it should cost money because why pay money when you can do it free?

Sirin Gioro2 votes

This is very similar to Korean's league accounts.

To play in KR Server, you need a Korean version of social security number. You can register as many as ten accounts using that ss number. That means you can share that ss number account with your friends/family. If ONE of the summoner of that SS account is banned, all of the summoners using that SS account to register as a summoner is banned as well.

razewar1 votes

in korean server you can only have 3 accounts to one social security number. check your facts

Volrath1 votes

i for one have a korean account and if you try to make another after your 3rd account it says to delete one of your accounts

Cindikle2 votes

I don't think it'd really fix everything as you say.

What is stopping this payed for smurf account from getting into challenger as well? If they made it so you cannot do that then what? Are they stuck at Diamond forever? They're likely to just make games feel more one sided.

Which takes us to the next problem. Smurfs are not just a problem at low levels. Facing someone who clearly shouldn't be at your rank makes the game pointless for your own team. I'm sure no where near the number of people who claim to be smurfs are. But you're asking Riot to make it easier to flood Silver/Gold games with Diamond+ players.

Unranked to Challenger streams are bad for the game. And honestly teach you nothing anyway. Watching some Riven main pub stop his way to higher rankings isn't teaching. By Riot allowing this, they are saying that it is OK for a challenger player to rampage though lower ranked games.

Botters may end up going down. But they wont stop. They'll just be cheaper. Or find ways to offer more. What would this $15 account come with? A botter can set you up with 100k+ip if they want. Riot would have to be careful about what they put on the account.

I'd agree something should be done. Easiest one IMO would be to make other modes actually worth doing.

3v3 lacks a solo Q ranked Dominion needs a lot of fixes, and is honestly a very fun mode. ARAM is always interesting

New permanent game modes would also be welcome. Best one for this I can think of is to add a survival mode. Waves of monsters/minions. Why this would work is that it doesn't require your team's MMR to be amazing. A new player can play with a challenger.

Another option could be to create a guidance system. Where lower levels can join games with high leveled players and be taught the game. A coaching system basically. It could let them spectate the game with no delay. But they can only see what the player sees(no moving the camera around) and can only see their team's vision.

There are other options for these players. There's nothing Riot can really do about their queue times without making them face lower MMR players. I understand these players often play this much because they love the game that much. It's not fair they seem to be "punished" because they got good at the game.

Perhaps new systems to show off their skill? There have been posts about creating special boarders around your champion when you select a champion you have won a lot with. High skilled players with a bunch of free time can go play something like Garen for 100 games and get the gold boarder or something. Or collect the boarders of their favorite champions. Or go learn a different champion and get the boarder they want by playing other modes.

In the end though. Riot REALLY cannot do anything to fix the problem. They can create options and content. But that doesn't mean it'll get used. But adding the ability to get a smurf wont fix the problems. It'll just change them. And could even create more.

Cerbearus1 votes

What would happen to the sub-accounts if the main one gets banned? I would hope they are all banned as well. Also would champions/skins/runes be shared between them?

Champion Skin1 votes

Why would you do this? To promote people to not buy connected accounts? To get people to rather created smurfs for free and stomp their way up?

Cerbearus1 votes

Well if someone is toxic enough to deserve a perma-ban for instance, it means nothing if they can just hop onto their other already level 30 account. Whereas them having to level up a completely new account and buy everything all over again deters them from being toxic in the first place.

"LOL IM GONNA TROLL ALLLLLL DAY AND GET PERMABANNED BUT AS SOON AS I GET PERMABANNED I WILL JUST USE MY OTHER ACCOUNT I BOUGHT AND KEEP TROLLING WITH NO REPERCUSSIONS AT ALL"

This is the reason the accounts would be linked in the first place.

Champion Skin1 votes

Then if they need an account because they are toxic? Why would they ever buy a linked account? Wouldn't they much rater buy an account that has been leveled up by botting or just play on a fresh account and crush some noobs instead of paying for an account they might lose

Which results in either new players being turned off the game by being crushed by more experienced and toxic players (loss in potential income for riot) Or it results in loss of income because people would rather buy botted accounts which are safer and independent from their main (which is also a loss in income for riot since then the people botting gets the money not riot)

Apex Citavista1 votes

You do realize that with everything you just said, riot would STILL make money. Right now only botters are selling accounts. I have friends who have bought them simply because they dont want to take the time to make it lvl30.
As for the toxic players, that's the point, if they don't want the linked account to troll and rage, then they have to go around it, which would also make it less appealing to them because it would be more troublesome. As for making a new account and crushing noobs, isn't that exactly what's happening right now? I feel bad levleing my smurf because I'm usually against people who are new, and it's an unfair match. It's essentially a challenger against bronze.

Akesgeroth1 votes

Or... Or, how about removing leveling and runes and making all champions available for free?

FatedTitan

That's an awful idea to remove leveling and unlock everything. Too many people worked hard to unlock everything. And we have so many new players run into Ranked and know nothing about the game already.

Vertanium1 votes

its bad if It just Happened. I think runes should still cost something. so you have to make a choice if you want to make a page Just for Yasuo or something like that. And If all champs were unlocked Id say that you have to win 2-6 games each on 16 champs in order to play ranked.

Miku Lv991 votes

I don't like this. There are already too many smurfs in ranked. They contribute to screwing it up pretty bad, since a lot of players just win or lose games because of the smurfs, so players get in the wrong tiers, and then it makes people feel like elo hell exists. Starting out ranked is already pretty brutal for a lot of players and I would not like to see a whole bunch more smurfs added to it. Lowering the bar of entry would definitely lead to this.

Apex Citavista1 votes

The point of a smurf, is that they are usually only in a lower elo for a few games. After that they go up, which effects pretty much nobody, because they only face them once. With the amount of smurfs out right now, it makes almost no difference. It would only make a difference if you get smurfs in like every other game. Which keep in mind, when you hit gold 5, that's the top 30% of the whole NA server, so you only have that 30% which would be really smurfing. And at that, only people in plat5 or higher would make a huge difference in the game outcome, which plat5 and up is the top 11% of all NA players. So you would only have 11% of players to make a big difference, so is EVERY player that hihg made a smurf account, you would have, on average 1 smurf every 10 games. So at that, it still would make almost no difference because sometimes you would have them on your team, sometimes on the enemy team. So it is only at the very most 1/10 games would have a smurf, on either team, and that's if EVERY person in plat and higher made a smurf, and kept it in that specific elo, would wouldnt happen because their natural wins would rank them up very fast.

I am down with this idea 100%. I don't understand the holes other people here are trying to poke in your cond- err idea. i don't see the need for skins and such to carry over to the linked account. That's simply asking too much. Hardly does the idea of a smurf collide with the need for skins on that account. But if you wanted to main Riven or a selected group of champions on that smurf, then fork over the extra cash for those few skins you REALLY want.
