Support Vision Tactic Question

Me summary: basically a silver player, but on another account I recently leveled up, almost all my normal games have plat/diamond players, which is not something I am used to seeing. As a means of trying to improve my strategy and game play, I recently decided to start buying a control ward as one of my first items in lieu of 2x health pots.

My logic has been that if we can control our bush and maintain vision of their bush, we are zoning the enemy pretty hard (or better able to hard engage them to death should they ignore their being zoned). I only see this idea working if my ADC isn't a passive farmer or if their comp isn't able to be over-aggressive and push past our bush and if I am using a more mage-type support.

At least half the games, the tactic has proven very useful. But sometimes my ADC farms way out of the safe zone (like along the river), or is too passive when they shouldn't be, or whatever it is they do that renders the tactic null. As I've ended up in several games with higher MMR ranked types, when this tactic hasn't worked, they are quick to start calling me bronzie and tell me to watch more of my stupid Twitch streamer videos, neither of which represent me.

I guess the question here is does the tactic seem more viable and along the lines of someone looking for ways to improve (therefore I should keep logically doing it when it is working)? What might be some flaws to the tactic aside from the stated obvious (aggressive enemy ADCs, etc.)? And if the tactic makes sense from a higher MMR perspective, what's might be a good way to bring your ADC on board with the strategy aside from duoing?
