I can't comprehend how that Zed lost to Vel'Koz.

He was bad. Whats so hard to understand here?

Serevas10 votes

Even if you didn't read the abilities and only knew to build attack damage, you should still be able to bully out vel'koz the entire game. First time Zed is still no excuse for losing to vel'koz.

This is why, contrary to popular belief, such champions are not 'free wins'. An opponent with enough skill can more than make up the difference.

OyddAWqJ5r5 votes

Except in normal circumstances everyone will be at a generally even skill level due to matchmaking. Therefore those champions are free wins.

Yet when equally skilled, Zed will win that matchup 95% of the time. I never said Zed was a free win, I said I can't comprehend how he lost assuming he didn't have brain damage.

Narasimha4 votes

Because equally skilled, he will NOT win that matchup. Unless the Vel is crazy pushed or at low health, Zed doesn't have the means to kill him. Vel also farms just as well, if not better, then Zed. If anything, it ends up being a stalemate lane where a mistake can often make the difference,

Demented Lemur12 votes

Im sorry but Velkoz cannot farm just as well as zed as velkoz has mana and is ap. Zed is energy based and ad and also has a passive that makes last hitting a joke

I'm missing how high mobility, high damage assassin fails to kill immobile, skillshot-dependant, squishy mage.

Please enlighten me on how that is, because I'm really failing to see how an assassin doesn't have the tools to kill a squishy mage.

If I'm Zed against Vel'koz, even if you're under turret, I'm throwing Qs at you all day long until you leave or I dive and kill you because you got low enough for me to not worry about the turret damage after I ult.

I'm not worried about the gank because I can shadow away and escape basically any ganks that come my way when I'm warded, like I have if I'm pushed up to your tower, because I'm not suicidal.

What game are you playing? EVEN unequally skilled, with a Zed that isn't quite as good as the Vel, ZED WILL WIN THAT MATCHUP MORE THAN HALF THE TIME. Vel'koz is going to have difficulty NOT pushing the lane, unless he just wants to not answer Zed's harass with his own. Zed farms better, particularly under turret, harasses better, because energy, and at six, even if Velkoz hides under turret, Zed kills him.

Unless the Zed is completely braindead.

Jeddy0173 votes

That or Vel'Koz actually knew how to handle Zed. Most likely the Zed was bad if he's saying Vel is broken.

Vel'koz is actually one of the better mages you could pick if you have to face a Zed. His low mana costs, hard CC, and strong retaliation can give Zed a hard time if played correctly.

Do explain how, I'm just not seeing it if the Zed is even remotely competent.

Vel'Koz E is one of the easiest hard CCs to dodge in the damn game, even if you don't have two blinks.

Narasimha15 votes

Because you don't throw the E out randomly. You use it when Zed tries to go in. Zed can't dodge it, leading to an immediate knockup, which throws off his combo and lets Vel return fire as well. Its not the easiest thing to pull off consistently, but a good Vel can more than fight back against a Zed.

I want to play Vel now. I don't own him yet.

Well knowing that zed's ult will place him behind you, you can easily just throw the E down and have it hit him right when he appears and then give him a spell rotation and possibly win the fight or just have him back off. It requires a really good velkoz though.

YossarianSensei1 votes

It puts him in front of you

Auz the Ripper1 votes

It'll alway put him behind you now It was changed a couple of patches ago

YossarianSensei1 votes

Its cast time is a lot shorter if Vel'koz casts it close to himself

So if Zed ults, just put your E right under him when he comes out of invulnerability

If Zed fks up his combo Vel'koz can actually easily turn it and kill Zed

LeeDark2 votes

Zed shouldn't be ulting there unless Vel casts the E. Zed does not NEED his ult to kill an immobile, skillshot dependent mage. All he has to do is use his essentially free harass to bully Vel. Once Vel is low enough, Zed can use his shadow to get close, and Vel has two choices: Either Flash away, or try for the knockup. If Zed gets just Flash, he's happy. If Vel throws the E, Zed ults to dodge it and kills him.

Borbland5 votes

Vel'Koz is strong vs anything well played, I know him very well, but he has really few chances vs. Zed.

I could handle pre-nerf LeBlanc, pre-nerf Fizz, Kata etc. with him but Zed is just insane how it's hard.

He pokes you and can dodge anything. If he ults you, you can E, but he still has the time to do Q + E, and then you're dead until you get Zhonya.

That Zed just sucked. Alot.

My favorite still has to be when a Zed I went up against cried about how my stun was unfair. I was playing Brand. I went off on him..."REALLY? My ONE, SKILLSHOT RELIANT, cc is unfair compared to the man with 1000 jumps?" He never said anything to me after that. I think I actually managed to win lane, but he would just roam and ended up 15/12 or something.

Kosm1K2 votes

I think that I played with you once man, I remember a zed being stupid against a brand's cc. He was all "That stun needs to be nerfed". Zeds are usually whiny about anything that kills them

revliledpembroke2 votes

It certainly is a small world. I remember wanting to add more. Stuff like "This is NOT the 'League of Zed kills whomever he wants whenever he wants,' this is the 'League of LEGENDS'! You SHOULD have trouble. I have NO plans to just sit here and let you kill me. You will have to work for it!"

Kosm1K2 votes

I remember telling him he'll actually have to work for his kills lol. Zed really does need a nerf or something. First time i played him i had 10/5/?? by the end and they surrendered. where the hell is the high skill floor he needs?

revliledpembroke1 votes

The best part he was spamming his shurikens so much that I, the ranged character, was having trouble farming. If I am Shen top lane, and I do nothing but spam my q, I'm going to run out of energy quite soon. Same thing should happen to Zed.

Kosm1K2 votes

definitely. Doesn't the shuriken have a 55 energy cost with a 6 second cooldown? That's ridiculous spam. Either increase the energy cost and refund if it hits a champion, or increase the cooldown. Either one would increase counterplay a bit.

Honestly most of Zed players are delusional fanboys that think to be oldschool XPeke-LCS-Noscope360 just because they know Zed is an AD champion.

I've never lost a lan against Zed with Vel'koz, Xerath neither Talon (and I'm a real bad Talon)

BeatzBoyFTW6 votes

I bet that Zed bought a Shockblade/SKT skin in game to show off to his teammates, despite being suckish with him.

SIayton5 votes

Vel'koz main here. I actually think Velkoz beats Zed given enough player skill. When Zed ults you, a well timed E behind yourself with a W on top of it kills his damage potential and does close to half life for him ulting you. Velkoz is the kind of champion that rewards "reads" aka knowing where your opponent is going to be and then punishing them for it, and Zed's ult telegraphs where he's going to be in a second, which is all velkoz needs to line up his E combo. Not to mention you outpoke him and generally win trades as long as you don't miss your combos.

At low levels, yes, Zed probably bodies Velkoz for free but once players are at a skilled level, I think Velk has the advantage honestly. I don't think I've ever lost to a Zed as Velk before.

ImHerVoice4 votes

lmfao so trash. My first time zed was like 5 months ago in diamond i just picked him 1 time 15/2/10 Yeah. Real balanced. Was against a swain or nidalee idr.

Cindikle4 votes

People still think Vel'Koz is weak?

Easy to manage mana costs, even after the Mana Font nerf. Long range abilities Can farm very easily, with both spells and AA's. Strong harass(although easy to avoid).

1v1 sure Zed will win. But Vel'Koz will destroy his team in the time it takes for Zed to kill him. As long as Vel avoids those 1v1's he'll do fine.

Dark Nephthys4 votes

I've beaten Zeds as Anivia. Talk about bad zeds getting hit by easiest skill shots to dodge in the game. Although...I guess Post-6 Anivia can actually handle Zed most of the time, it's just surviving the early game is what's hard.

I use to play Vel'koz a lot, he's still a very good champion when played right.

N30NP4NDA4 votes

AGGHH ALL THESE THINGS SAYING ZED>VEL'KOZ omfg ppl you are so wrong vel'koz can kill zed the instat he ults.

Slamurai Jack4 votes

According to champion.gg, which logs data from all plat+ games, Velkoz mid has a 52.85% win rate against Zed . Interestingly, He also has high win rates against some other assassins as well, notably a 52.4% rate against Leblanc , a 59.01% rate against Yasuo , and an absurd 62.5% rate against Akali . In case anyone is interested, Vel'koz's toughest opponent in mid is Talon , with only a 41.21% win rate.

And tbh, as a Vel'koz Player, those numbers all corroborate with my personal experience. Vel'koz actually does quite well against assassins up until they reach the point where they can 100-0 him before he has a chance to retaliate. Talon reaches this point faster than any other assassin and I've always considered him the hardest matchup as well. In contrast, champions like Zed, Akali, and Yasuo don't reach their 100-0 potential until far, far later in the game, and you should have a Zhonyas by that point. Akali in particular is an extremely easy matchup for Vel'koz, even before they nerfed her. You can harass her relentlessly until 6, she has no way to stop your ulti, and even after 6, her jumping on you if a free full combo to her face.

Malix Farwin3 votes

I think you have to still be decent with Zed. I am not sure how he lost to a vel koz when he can outsustain him, out poke him, and all in him the easiest out of all assassins(or champs in general) but its w/e i guess.

Meh. it's not like all of Vel'Koz's abilities give a 2 second warning.

. . . Oh wait.

Epic

I Main Swain2 votes

not to say that vel is broken, but imo his straight up damage on his q should be a little lower and his true damage passive should be a little higher.

Kosm1K2 votes

If you buff his true damage it will make it so laners would not be able to counter vel except with hp because of the huge chunk of true damage.

I Main Swain1 votes

imo it would promote more strategic gameplay. low but sustained damage if you are only hitting 1 ability every once in a while, but high damage if you land 3 abilities. and besides, im not saying they should make a huge change to it, just a small numbers transfer.

Kosm1K1 votes

I get what you mean, but that would be heavily abused in LCS and riot has to consider what vel changes do across all skill levels in the game.

if the koz is good it doesn't matter what the zed does. save e for when he initiates, then chunk him with q and w once he gets hit by them. learn to zone control

A0 SHIN1 votes

I actually play this lane on the side of Velkoz quite a bit. Its not hard for velkoz to handle Zed at all from my experience. Zed's range is pretty short compared to Vel'Koz and if Zed ever wants to all-in he's going to have to be melee range which is a free full combo for Velkoz to hit. The lane is target practice for Vel, that snowballs very hard either way.

Care there they might give Velkoz the viegar treatment, after all it seems when ever a rioter loses to some low picked champ ie viegar mordekaiser, they seem to get a "compensation"
