Do you think that AP autoattackers have a place in League of Legends?

From what I've seen, AP autoattackers seem to fall under the pattern of spells vs attacks. If their spell gets a bit overbearing, they end up playing the role of mages who decimate their opposition until they are balanced around the mage playstyle (Diana, Azir, Teemo) or they have their spells merged that they become an annoying on hit fighter (Elise, Nunu). Do you think it is possible to have a champion like Fiora but be able to thrive as an AP autoattacker?

I miss the old MF when her W passive scaled with AP. She was a true AP AA mage back then.

I miss old Miss Fortune because they completely ruined AP Miss Fortune by overloading her kit with AD scalings and adding crit on her ult. The only buff AP MF got in the ADC update was her E range increasing, and even then I think she lost more AP scaling on her other abilities.

Maybe AP MF would get more attention if people actually played AP MF more often.

Well you can't play her now really....Whenever I did play MF though(before the rework) AP MF was the one I went for. I remember doing it in bot lane one time while I was in a 4v5 situation and I actually managed to survive lane decently and get kills.(AP MF waveclear so nice, and the damage wasn't bad either)

I played AP MF before, but even before her update Mage Fortune wasn't all that popular.

Sometimes Rito has to make a sacrifice when they change or update a champion. AP MF was too niche to be on their balance radar

MF in general was niche. She wasn't played much at all. AP MF may not have been played much but the ONLY reason AP MF isn't able to be played now is because they gave her so many AD scalings and made her ulti able to crit. Both of which weren't needed. Her love tap could have been a guaranteed crit on her autos when switching targets, making her Q(which actually has an AP scaling on it crit as well). Her ultimate didn't even need to be able to crit, it was already strong with black cleaver. Now it melts you before you can even attempt to get out of it. AP MF could have easily been able to be made to still be playable with the same gameplay as now. They just chose AD scalings on her passive and crits on her ulti to put her over the top like all the other ADCs they updated in that same time(Kogmaw for example? Graves? Corki? All have been nerfed including MF and Kogmaw was partially reverted).

Won't work. AP itemization won't allow it.

AD gets lifesteal/essense reaver if needed/shit ton of passives and actives to stay alive

AP gets ...nashors? They have no way of surviving in combat outside of gunblade's small heal

ADCs are deceptively tanky because they lifesteal like 200 hp per crit AP auto attackers will heal like 30, max because they can't crit and don't have access to lifesteal

Adding on to this: crit is set up so ad autoattackers can hyper scale. AP is mostly based around midgame spikes.

Some other things too, like triforce and bork being better one-item wonders than any ap autoattack item.

Can crits be compared to the magic damage of a spell?

I wrote a nice long reply, then decided to turn it into its own post.

tl;dr No.

Um....There's already an AP Auto attacker...Kayle item 3115 item 3124 item 3091 item 3085 item 3006. I mean she builds on hit but she's still doing magic damage through her autos and she becomes a terror to fight late game. I get item 3146 last just to be that much worse late game if I play Kayle.

Magic damaging auto attack focused items:item 3115 item 3124 item 3091. With Kayle you can get away with gunblade to heal(and you have your own heal) late game by ulting yourself into a teamfight to heal up while taking no damage back to full.

No. AA based champions imo don't have a place in this game as long as AAs aren't skillshots.

Varus' can function as an AP autoattacker with burst mage qualities.

I kinda wish they'd rework him just a little with that in mind. his kit pretty much wants to be an AP autoattacker anyways. Though his kit is fine right now so I also hope they don't change him.

They gave that kind of scaling to Jhin, it's just physical damage instead of magic.
