What if range was a scaling attribute?
The title explains it. What if, like every other attribute, range had a base stat and a growth stat? I think a change like this would alter the meta drastically and maybe even marksman meta would see an end or at least see a lot less inherent success.
Of course melee characters would not need this change because it would be infinitesimal to their overall gameplay but if ranged characters were unable to do as much zoning through consistently spaced DoT at early levels certain melee characters could have the breathing room to farm for basic items and even contest trades in a duo lane setting.
I think this kind of change is a lot healthier than Riot trying to buff bruisers into having such gamebreaking advantages that they can overwhelm the support/marksman lane (Mordekaiser). This kind of balancing only translates these advantages to other lanes and bends the entire game's pressure around a specific character. This is unhealthy for fluent, 5-man strategy.
Although I may speak too soon. Maybe Riot wants to make every strategy as gamebreaking as the marksman meta and this is only the first step in their plan. I still can't help but think that nerfing the overwhelming power of marksman in the early game would be a simpler solution..
. So it's not unheard of. But if all ADC/ranged carries had scaling range, it would be probably be an ADC meta all over again.
