When is Grasp of the Undying better than Fervor for autoattackers like Trundle/Aatrox?

I'm trying to decide which is better. Assuming I can reach 1.4 attack speed with items and about 3000 health, what would you recommend and why?

Depends greatly on the type of engagement you expect. Do you plan to just right-click and forget? Or smack someone a few times, back off for a second or two, then go back in? For early game trades, Grasp probably offers slightly more damage. But later on, as you get more health and can afford to chase a target for a bit longer, Fervor probably overtakes Grasp.

Also, you have to factor in whether you want the sustain or not. Both Aatrox and Trundle do pretty well with health sustain, of course, but do you want to double down on that or not?

Hmm...okay back to the first line. Fervor stacks twice on an auto/spell for a melee. Wouldn't that theoretically make it better early game?

It really depends how long you can keep smacking them. If they're willing to sit still and have a pillowfight with you, then Fervor is probably more effective. But if they keep retreating from engagements so that you can't make full use of your attack speed, then Grasp would probably do better.

Most top laners' health pools range from 580 to 620, so if you do the math, Grasp does 3% of that (2.5% soon) So it does 17.4 to 18.6 damage every 4 seconds at level 1.

Fervor deals 1 damage per stack for every AA, up to a cap of 8 stacks at level one. This means that assuming you can get to 8 stacks consistently, you will do similar damage to Grasp every 2 AAs (16 damage), and more than Grasp every 3.(24 damage)

you're asking why a mastery that heals champions who already have healing on their skills is better than one that just gives them raw stats.

Grasp is almost always better in laning phase, where it's incredibly strong for trades, while fervour is better in lategame and all ins.

Grasp is better on Trundle, Fervor probably on Aatrox depending on how you are going to build him. You could possibly make a case for Warlords on Aatrox as well.
