In which situations is Vladimir Mid the most optimal option?

I really like Vladimir, I think he's fun and I usually do well with him. I mostly just play him for fun in Normals, while in ranked I heavily favor Ahri, Azir, Orianna, and Syndra. I've been considering adding Vladimir to my ranked champion pool (lel), but in all honesty I can't think of a situation or team comp that in which Vladimir would be exceptionally better in than one of my other most comfortable champions.

Thoughts?

Vlad is better on toplane. His low range sustain actually matter there.

Thanks to his low range and bad earlygame his midaling is not good at all.

He is great for double AP comps (your team), as he can amplify damage done to enemies affected by his Ult. High AOE damage top laners are great for Vladimir mid. Think about having a Tank Jungle with a lot of CC in this situation as Vlad does not provide much CC to the team. He does best against champions that cannot pressure him so hard early in the game. Early game he should just farm as much as he can while staying safe. He is strongest in the Midgame when he has a bit of CDR, Spell vamp, and lvl 5 Q and he stays relevant in the game thanks to the power of his Ult and his Lissandra esque trolling ability (Zhonya's + Pool). He is best if he can avoid being bursted down early in a teamfight as he can heal very quickly and can output a lot of multitarget damage.

Vlad should work well in situations where you just want to farm to win. Also if their mid laner doesn't have much early game damage/pressure, allows him to be able to do his thing until he becomes the late game monster/problem the other team can't deal with. With your current champion pool, I really don't think you need to add him into it since you have Orianna . I feel he is more of a flex/pocket pick which you won't really need to worry about practicing unless you go into competitive play. You can learn him, though if you do like him. I just don't like him because his early game rubs me all wrong.

I have seen him used as a Zed counter. It was a slow early game, it took a while for Vladimir to have kill pressure but once he did it was a massacre. It was a split push/counter split push game; Challenger Series, I think xPeke Vladimir, so YMMV.
