Life-Steal and Spell-Vamp

Hey summoners. Just wanted to see if this is clear and if you guys agree with my logic.

A. Life-Steal is based off of Auto/Basic attacks and anything that procs on-hit effects. B. Spell-Vamp is based off of Spells/Ability damage, so skills should trigger the effect.

Wouldn't it be neat though if---

  1. Life-Steal worked for ANY ATTACK or True damage, whether it be AA's or Skill based?
  1. Spell Vamp worked for ANY MAGIC or True damage, whether it was Item's or Skill.

I ask that because Life-Steal gives me the mind-set as if we were dealing with the physical, while spell vamp seems to deal with the magical....

I think it would open up a lot of avenues for more LS and SV Items. The game has been growing very quickly and these developers and Riot as a whole have been doing a great job keeping the game fun, whether win/lose or draw! (Unless you get land-slided). I do see small loop holes with my theory however. But I thought I'd just get an outside perspective of how other fans think. -Keep the creative juices flowing

The problem with this idea is that lifesteal already gives immense sustain without applying from all physical damage, so having spell vamp on top of that would just make it silly on champions like zed, talon, and a lot of ADCs.

As for spell vamp, it already applies to item damage (gunblade at the very least) and true damage spells, so it would just be taking away that bit of sustain for AD/spell vamp users, none of which exist anyways, so far as I know.

Spell vamp also applied to summoner spells

I did not know what Raith, that you for that info.

Also I wanted to ask. Say you have Yasuo and you have 100% Life-Steal. Now lets say you have your Static Shiv.... Do you gain Health for Static Shiv's damage as well or does Life Steal only count for the initial AD On-hit proc?

On-hit effects don't ever apply lifesteal. Sometimes bonus physical damage on attacks apply lifesteal (like Trundle Q), but Shiv or triforce procs won't.

Oh wow, that was VERY usefull Kman, thanks... I didn't know that ether, which is prob why Im still bronze LOL

Actually, Sheen does benefit from lifesteal. Check here: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/On-hit_effect

Actually, the damage from Sheen does benefit from lifesteal.

Life steal applies to all physical damage dealt on-hit, including any sourced from on-hit effects (with a few exceptions). Sheen and Nasus's Siphoning Strike is a renowned example of powerful sustain as life steal not only applies to the basic damage on the attack, but the bonus damage on Sheen and the stacked damage on Siphoning Strike.

See, that's what I thought as well... So what about the magic damage from Static Shiv?

Statikk Shiv doesn't benefit from lifesteal. There might be some exceptions (I'm not sure), but a good rule of thumb is that physical on-hit damage benefits from lifesteal and magical on-hit damage doesn't.

Also, while Sheen benefits from lifesteal, I cannot remember if Lich Bane does, though it's usually a moot point anyways.

Oh, dang, I was sure it didn't. Good catch, thanks.

...I don't want Riven healing to full just by using Q, thank you very much.

I can understand how that would be annoying lol.

Ok cool, thanks for that comment. I kind of figured that would be a small problem, that's why I want to ask you all. It's just a shame that some AD Casters who could prob beneift from say an Spell-Vamp Item with AD can't really build into it yet because they'll be loosing out. (since both spell vamp items give you AP). But an example of that would be Vi. And as far as spell vamp goes, I was thinking more on a Sunfire Cape or Wit's End level rather than Active abilities.

AD casters all have access to lifesteal, and if you're building AD, autoattacks are always part of your combo, so they're not missing out on much by not having spellvamp. I see what you're saying, but it wouldn't really be a healthy change for the game.
