His ap damage is complete weak compared to the other mids. It's so low to the point where people are making ad Kennen viable as a substitute. Only role he's played is in the top lane a lane where even champions like Nunu can be safe to scale. Most champs are getting decent buffs like Fizz, Lux, Kass are getting buffs that make them more viable in lane.
BananaSlayerAMO2 votesI never found Kennen mid to be viable. Pre-level 6, he has lower range and dmg compared to other mages, and his Q is easily blocked by minions. The only things he has going for him are spammability and mobility, which have no uses besides farming and playing safe.
Once he hits level 6 he becomes great for ganks and teamfights (especially with 
), but there's no reason to struggle with him mid when he can easily go top and pressure the enemy top laner.
I think it would be difficult to buff Kennen as a mid laner without making Kennen top incredibly overbearing. As of now, I still think Kennen has a place on the rift so it's not a pressing issue to improve him.
DrCyanide2 votesI can honestly say I've seen more Teemo Mid, Lucian Mid, and Jhin Mid than I've seen Kennen, let alone Kennen Mid.

The only reason he's viable top lane is because oftentimes, top laners aren't typically capable of dealing with a ranged matchup, which means he's allowed to get his time to scale into late game teamfights and able to bully his opponent if he does it intelligently.
However, a good Kennen ult in teamfights can keep the entire enemy team stunlocked for 2+ seconds. That is insane, and why he has to have the weaker early game that he can get bullied out during if he doesn't play safe. If you were to make him a stronger mid laner (which would require buffing his early game some), he would become absurdly broken because he couldn't be punished as easily early and late is too strong.
e46 Fanatic1 votesKennen is weak compared to the typical mid lane casters, but that is exactly why he usually stays top. Personally, even while thinking Kennen is weak, no buff is necessary. Just don't go around trying to 1v1 people because that is kennens weakness. He is ultimately a team champ
