What to do when you get consistently matched with better players...

in the enemy team, but most importantly, your own team as well?

I'm a bit of sporadic and casual (blind pick) player with long periods of non-activity.

Shouldn't that reflect on your casual mmr somehow?

I frequently get matched with people just flat out better (often plats, sometimes diamonds), not noticing the opportunities they do and just having to tag along in order not to be useless. Getting carried or stomped isn't very exciting. Maybe it's a support main thing? Does anybody have some insights on the matter or am I just disillusioned?

Are you talking about for norms? Because yes, riot is literally straight up trolling their player base with their norms matchmaking system. I've gotten a master teir ADC and a level 19 on my teams in the same game before. This is not an exaggeration, this exact thing happened. And this extreme situation aside I still regularly get pre-30's and silver/low golds in my games when I que for normals as a D5. Makes having a decently fun game extremely hit or miss because you might be playing with someone who is the type to literally only react to what is going on in his immediate field of vision, and you have no way to know what to expect from them because they could be new, or they could be challenger.

All my normal games are stomps in one direction or the other with the exception of maybe that 1/30 game that will be fun.

I've never experienced exactly what you describe, but I agree, suddenly (at least for me) my normal games seem to have a wide swath of players from the player that asks what a gank is, to players a couple divisions above me, on both sides.

Frankly, I hate facing a new player when I'm in norms. I practice the champs I want to play next season in top. It's no fun for me to stomp a new player.

I want to practice against players no less then a rank or two above or below me.

I realize that might be unrealistic.

People complain a ton about smurfs in this game, but if I want to practice something that I can play against diamonds, it wont be in a norm. I have to practice anything that I want to test if I actually have a reasonable level of compitency with on my plat smurf, because I could do well in a norm on legit anything. Riot could definitely fix this just by having matchmaking be the same for norms as your ranked, and I really dont see the reason they dont. Plats/diamonds not trying because they arent playing for anything, still feels way more competitive than playing with silvers, low golds, or unrankeds.

You make an excellent point. I agree norms Matchmaking should be exactly like ranked.
