Jungle without runes? New to the game.

Well I hope this is an appropriated post, Google wasn't very fruitful. My friend has effectively hooked me to the game and I just want to get better, I am level 15. I think my favorite role is jungle and I play it with some success. I've bought the Tier 1 runes but I'm really interested in whether I should keep at jungle as my 'main' slot or should I wait until I can load up on T3 runes at some distant time. I want to get good at jungle but I don't want to be gimped either as I learn. Thanks! Also champion recommendations would be awesome. I'm really liking Amumu but J4 looks sweet too.

At your current level, I'm not sure I would recommend jungling. The jungle can really hurt without the appropriate runes and masteries, which will delay your ganks and slow your clearspeed.

However, more importantly, having jungler may leave one of your allies in a 1v2 lane. If they don't know how to play safe, they could easily end up feeding and go on tilt. If you have an ally you trust to hold their own, then jungling should be viable for certain champions.

Ive jungled before on my low lvl smurfs without runes it wasnt so bad, you just cant gank early by the time im done clearing both buffs and a camp, my hps like gone lol simply means I have to recall at lvl3 and lvl5 or so to buy jungle items for better sustain, after that you wont even notice the lack of runes you arent totally gimped without it

spirit stones great sustain if u need both hp/mp farm junglers like yi and udyr are great but then your team always hates you for it

so i switched to high mobility/fast roaming/ strong gank junglers like rammus and hecarim yep, i find it valuable to be able to get around very quickly counter ganks, saving team mates, more than 1 lane being stupid etc. udyr gets around the map quickly too but when his ganks happen, its just not as strong as rammus/hec

rammus was free rotation once and maaaaan the low lvls have no idea wat to do when bowser the hedgehog bumps into em and makes a yo momma joke..... they get wrecked

Thanks for the response. What I've noticed is the majority of the time in team and blind pick it's usually 1v1 at the top lane, I do understand the issue though a lowbie 1v2 is probably going to go poorly. I've played a lot of Amumu and Volibear this week and I have not had any issue keeping up in levels almost always but I do feel choked for HP until I can complete my golem. I don't know I'll probably just hold off until the 20's.
