Riot I don't Like Your Ways

Something I despise about the Riot balance team is that if a champion can play another roles, such as Malzahar going jungle that was originally intended for mid, it gets nerfed to hell. I hate this because it limits the things you can do with that champion, instead of being glued to one specific role. This allows for no flexibility whatsoever. I used to play a fair share of Janna mid, but that got taken away. Her AP ratios were massively reduced (W turned from .8 AP ratio to .5 AP ratio and E turned from .9 AP ratio to .7 AP ratio). Kind of disappointing you are trying to force a meta. Just let us have some fun.

The thing is that when a champion is frequently picked outside of their intended role, this is most likely because some unintended interaction about this role totally breaks them.

What do you mean?

Like new Malzahar being able to solo dragon at level 1 with little to no damage

Arkale1 votes

You know that's a hyperbole

Alright, they weren't in the exact same situation. He can solo dragon at level 1: http://youtu.be/yonJdmISLpQ And at level 2, he can solo it with hardly any damage taken: http://youtu.be/RfTPrfUYzns

The first video was before any nerfs, and the second was before the hotfix.

After the hotfix, he got higher mana costs and his voidlings do 50% damage to monsters

They could've done better to make the monsters attack only champions, thus prolonging shaco's box life and nerfind the heck out of Malz Jungle.

Arkale1 votes

They could, yes but then malz would need his damage back in order to stand a chance at surviving 3 camps since he's so squishy, making him completely illogical in the jungle.

This would go against their own goals to keep malz's jungle strength that he had before 6.9

He would be the target instead of the voidlings meaning Malz can't avoid damage. Buffing Malz's voidlings is better for lane malz and allows a stronger gank from jungle malz.

That would seriously hamper Elise and Shaco jungle though. Shaco NEEDS those boxes tanking to survive without a box nest, and a good Elise uses her spiders to tank.

And then we can increase their damage output to compensate. When was the last time Elise received a buff? Shaco and Elise need damage increases.

That would probably lead to both being SUPER oppressive. Both are VERY strong in the early game when they have more damage to bring to the field.

Elise especially tends to dominate the game when her early game is stronger, and Shaco spins things crazily out of control on occasion when he can force teams to play cautiously because of strong level 2 ganks.

Well let me specify Damage increase to Voidlings, Spiderlings, and Stacking Boxes.

Why would this mean level two ganks aren't as strong? It doesn't, but due to increased damage faced by Shaco, Elise and Malz, they will have less health when they do so. Higher Risk, higher reward, and the ganks don't feel so safe to do since no pots will be available and the jungle will have to b in order to recover, and lag in xp.

The OP was saying how they have to nerf champions played outside of their role. Those two videos were why they had to need Malz jungle

Got it. I'm really just trying to keep people from asking for even more malzahar nerfs because they see something that used to be op.

As you played Janna, take her shield as example - it protects the carry, but also grants them lots of bonus damage. If Janna has low, or medium AP as support, that's fine - enemies get too choose, either take additional beating for 5 seconds, or use up their resources to bust the shield down quickly.

But if Janna with .9 ratio went midlane, and got access to gold easily granting her 600 or more AP, shield became near 1k and granted 100 bonus damage. Bursting a 1k shield stops being an option at all, in many cases completely removing intended counterplay, thus making the champion complete pain in the ass to deal with.

This is because supports that used to go midlane actually had crazy ratios - .9 on Janna shield is most that most damaging abilities have, and it's scaling is multiplied by resistances.

If you're playing to lose, why does min-maxing matter to you?

Play to win or stop whining.

I agree. I want to play jungle Soraka, but she's so dependent that she must always have a teammate to protect her and she can't do anything for anybody but cast R and silence.
